History (OOC info)
Mezzo's memory of his past is a little hazy. Perhaps it is merely a sign of age. Or perhaps he is growing senile. He thinks that someone at the Thaumaturge guild may have meddled with his memories.
Raised in Thanalan, his name betrays the fact that he was not raised in a traditional Lalafell household. He does not remember much about his parents since they offered him as a babe to the Thaumaturge guild in exchange for a peaceful transition to the afterlife. He spent most of his childhood years in Thanalan, rebelled as a teenager, and disobeyed his teacher by taking up adventuring as an adult. He fell in love with Momofu Mami, a beautiful and clever Lalafell tradeswoman/botanist who visited the guild to pay her respects to the god of the underworld.
Momofu's death at the hands of a rock skin peiste devastated him and his view of world changed shortly after. In his grief he created a secret identity, an alter ego (possible second persona) called 'Peiste Bane', a fearsome wielder of magic who roamed the Thanalan deserts, helping merchants and tribes along the trade routes. She was and forever will be his desert saffron.
Years later he was drafted into the reserves for the Immortal Flames and participated in the battle at the Cartaneau Flats and, just when he had given up on life, his body was whisked away with other adventurers, only to return five years later still wearing an old, dirty Ul'dah Officer's uniform. A little disappointed that his life had not ended like he had hoped, he lost his way and returned to South Thanalan to visit Momofu's grave.
There he had a dream - may have been a hallucination since he was quite dehydrated - where he heard Momofu's(?) voice speak to him, telling him to move on and continue living. After that he identified himself with the Immortal Flames and was, due to his age and lack of credible records, given the task of patrolling the streets of Ul'dah. "To keep things civil," they said.
While Eorzea is caught up with the resurgence of the Primals and the return of Garlemald, he is, quite frankly, not too concerned about it all. These days he just wants to find new things that will spark his interest and joined a Free Company (as a part-time thing) in the hopes that there was something promising awaiting him there.
