Character
General
Sylas Peregrine all but grew up in the Coliseum of Ul'dah. One day the boy simply showed up at the Gladiator's Guild with a knife in one hand and a plank strapped to the other. He adamantly demanded training and was sent away for being naught but a child. Every day he came back, though, and quickly gained a reputation as a stubborn little street rat. After several weeks of trying and being shoo'd away he was given admittance to the guild. The boy proved to be a quick learner and using the tactics taught by the Lalafell in the guild, he became adept at using his smaller frame and greater speed against much larger opponents to overcome them with flurries of what amounted to pecks and scratches. Thanks to the screeching noises the boy made while he was fighting combined with the speed and swooping tactics, Sylas received the nickname 'The Bladed Falcon.' He took this name a step farther, eschewing whatever familial name was given to him (if he had one to begin with) and calling himself Peregrine, a type of falcon he could've sworn he heard a bard speaking of at one point or another.
That's not to say he didn't receive his fair share of beatings.
The years passed and the boy grew into a man. His tactics barely changed as he grew, though with age came a much larger body and stronger muscles. The speed of his youth was lost with this larger frame, though Sylas did his best to adapt. As time went on, the life of a Gladiator for Ul'dahn sport grew to be something he no longer loved. Yearning for more, and quite frankly burnt out on fighting things for money, Sylas took his savings and struck out as an Adventurer.
This is where his tale begins.
Appearance
Sylas typically appears to be in a state of constant dishevelment. His perpetually messy hair is a shade of black with the occasional gray streak. He's not old enough for such a thing, but a lifetime of constant stress has it's effect on anyone. There's a clear lack of grooming where his hairstyle is concerned. That shock of hair is accompanied by 5 o'clock shadow that never seems to fade. It's likely he could trim it off entirely, but it would probably return within a few hours. He's about average height as far as Highlander's are concerned, sitting at a solid 6'5". His frame, while having the stereotypical physique of a Highlander, is somewhat lacking when compared to his beefier brethren. This one favors speed and balance over brute force. He's about as tanned as one would expect from someone living in Ul'dah. His eyes are a deep-blue color, and while they're almost always heavy-lidded one might get the sense that this man is seeing more than he lets on.
In short, he always looks tired and disheveled. Like someone that was freshly woken up from a not-quite-good night's rest.
Behavior
He's typically a quiet one. Doing what he needs to do without speaking up or providing much sass. Sylas allows his actions to speak for him. It's worked so far. Slow to anger but a stalwart and even stubborn defender when those he's put under his protection are threatened.
Combat
General
Sylas favors the one-handed blade and shield style taught within the Gladiator's Guild. Having all but grown up in the guild, he's very proficient with both weapons. As of late he's been experimenting with a large number of weapons and even begun dabbling in some of the less subtle magical arts.
Tendencies
Likes
- Quiet.
- Exploration.
- Trying to help people out. He doesn't always succeed.
Dislikes
- Unnecessarily loud people.
Hobbies/Talents
- He's slowly learning how to read and write.
- When he's not subjecting himself to education, there's a piece of wood and a knife in his hand for him to whittle at.
- Humming.
Relationships
Family
Not much is publicly known about his family.
Friends
He doesn't keep very many friends, though he's been trying to better his social skills in the last few months!
Enemies
Plenty. Growing up as a Gladiator would surely give him a large handful of rivals and enemies.
History/Timeline
WIP
You might know him from...
-His time spent as a Gladiator on the Bloodsands for the past decade.
-The more scholarly sort might recognize him as a borrower of easy-to-read books in recent years. Mostly children's tales and things with pictures.
