Basic Info

J'takra is a recovering alcoholic, with an abrasive attitude, a large ego, and a chip on his shoulder over many different things. Once resigned to drinking his life away, he has since made something of a turnaround, and is slowly becoming a practiced Thaumaturge. He's still a huge asshole with a short temper, however, and getting past that can require a lot of effort.

Appearance

Lean, wiry, and perhaps even a little slim from infrequent eating, J'takra is rather light on his feet. Typically armed with either a cocky smirk, or an unamused frown, you can be sure that he's never seen without a handmade cigarette between his lips. Previously unwilling to use them except for reading, he has started to wear his glasses in a more permanent capacity.

He is a couple of inches taller than average, which doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, since he's still a tiny miqo'te. His skin is pale, and his face framed with long, brilliantly red hair that reaches down to just below his shoulders. His ears are particularly fluffy towards their base, and his tail moreso towards the tip, both ending in a few darker red stripes.

His voice is quite smooth, perhaps from the years of drinking, and has a certain sensual quality to it, at least when he's not spouting insults. He once had a slight Lominsan accent, though it has all but faded now, due to much time spent away from the city state.

Personality

Something of a sociopath, J'takra finds it highly difficult to relate to other people's feelings. Because of this, he often comes off as incredibly selfish and inconsiderate to those around him. He has a tendency to just say things without any thought given to how it may impact someone else, and it takes a lot of effort on his part to force himself into not being a total jackass.

He has a highly addictive personality, and as such, tends to get fixated on things for extended periods of time. These obsessions can be incredibly difficult for him to let go of later. He is a rather selfishly manipulative person by default, but the manner in which he pulls it off depends largely on how much he has been drinking.

While intoxicated:

Relatively easygoing, if rather full of bluster at times. After spending two years as an alcoholic, this is pretty much his default mode. Since the drink is used as a means to dull his inner thoughts, and essentially hide from himself, he seems content to just laze about in a drunken slump most of the time. Not giving a shit.

The drink is a good way to help him care less about his own shortcomings and contradictions, but sometimes leads him into being moody and depressive anyway. Common sense often takes a back seat to emotional response, and he can be a little quick to lose his temper and sulk. That said, he always tends to bounce back fairly fast.

While sober:

A much less common sight, sober Tak tends to be far more direct and coherent than his intoxicated counterpart. He is still much the same person, but there are some very notable differences. Incredibly more blunt, his words tend to come with extra barbs attached, and his sense of humor becomes dryer and meaner. Much more driven this way, he is less content to laze around doing nothing with his life, and actually lets his real ambition shine through instead of stifling it with drink.

His mannerisms and speech patterns shift slightly, and he tends to be more cold and sarcastic. Perhaps the biggest difference is that he is far more sure of himself, and it isn't just all talk like when he's been drinking, either.

Habits

Drinking and smoking are the most blatantly obvious of the lot, but there are plenty others, and some are harder to pick up on. J'takra is a habitual liar, and will just lie about anything, even when he has no reason to do so. Not everything he says is a lie, obviously, but he will weave them in fairly consistently.

He tends to make jokes, or throw out mean comments to distract people from topics he doesn't like to discuss. Or in some cases, just flat-out runs away from his problems. Any mentions of homosexuality or feelings tend to make him pissed, and he regards anyone taller than he is with great disdain.

Perhaps the biggest, yet least obvious one, is his fixation on pushing situations until he gets his way, or 'wins', and then immediately backs out instead of following it through. There are exceptions, depending on whether or not the thing he wanted outweighs his pride, denial or fears on the matter, but pulling such a move is not uncommon for him.

RELATIONS

Romantic Interest Platonic Love Trusted Good Standing Neutral Wary Hated

K'hatos : One might say that Tak's life is essentially bound to this Seeker. Never has a dynamic been able to swing from very pleasant, to angry and resentful, and then back again in such short periods of time. K'hatos tends to be the more reasonable one, with a few exceptions, while J'takra provides most of the conversational drama. He knows better than to trust anything K'hatos has to say, but keeps coming back to play the seeker's game, even though he usually loses.

Oyuu Dataq : A tall, slightly imposing Au Ra who has been teaching Tak thaumaturgy. The two didn't quite see eye-to-eye at first, but after many difficult and unexpected trials, Tak has come to like, respect and even trust the Xaela. Which is a big step up from what most people will get out of him. Oyuu makes him want to actually try, and do well at something for once, instead of the half-assed uncaring way he usually does things. Like a muse for blowing things up.

Shiori Eikitaika : a friendly and pretty Raen who works as a healer at the carbuncle. This is probably one of the most straight forward friendships Tak has, which is good because the rest of them are a mess! (He just isn't good at friends, okay?) Somehow she can deal with all of his shit, and even if he won't say as much, he appreciates her for it. Shiori is currently mentoring him with Aether things!

Kenji Eikitaika : Friendships sometimes spring up in strange places, and that is certainly the case with this Au Ra. Things tend to be a little rocky between them, mostly due to Tak's constant ability to do things that anger or stress the Raen, but he at least tries to make up for it afterwards? Kenji is also currently mentoring him with gun things!

J'sahr Tia : Tak's twin brother. Once close, the two haven't spoken since a difference in opinion led to a massive fight, and a rather wide rift formed between them. They went their separate ways after leaving the tribe two years ago, and are still on terrible terms. Perhaps one day they will speak again, but both are stubborn and unwilling to make the first move.

OOC notes

Anything said or done while in character is just that, purely the character. I like to let RP pan out naturally and that can sometimes lead to all kinds of crazy situations. I'm very casual about these things OOCly, and seeing as I play a rather abrasive character, would just like to note that nothing said or done by him reflects my personal feelings.

Something I don't condone is tying up someone's character in RP, and then leaving them hanging. That's just not cool, man. The same goes for stealing RP away from others. I very much like to let my character do what he would do, but if it ends up stepping on any toes OOCly, I will back out. It's meant to be fun, after all!
