Personality
Personality
- Alus' personality could be described first and foremost as friendly and approachable, despite still being introverted and distant. He can show a very casual and goofy personality to acquaintances, cracking jokes or any other mannerisms that will make a person open up and smile, but he seems to have difficulty starting or keeping up a conversation with a stranger. On the surface, he is simple-minded and queer, content with speaking flowery poetry none other than that of the wind, however underneath it all he has a very serious personality when it comes to emotions and self-betterment, which usually comes as an unexpected surprise to new friends.
- He has a strong sense of justice and loyalty to common legal laws and traditional morals. He appears to be the eternal optimist-- Even his enemies he wishes no true ill-will towards, and believes that anyone has the ability to be a better person, and that anyone absolutely deserve a second chance. However, Alus' thoughts on pacifism are often melancholy and somewhat pessimistic; He wishes that the life he leads could exist without any bloodshed, lamenting over his current path in life with the military Maelstrom. With the help of his brother he often manages to once again convince himself that bloodshed is necessary for an overall greater peace, but his heart wavers on the matter of pacifism quite often. It is difficult for him to accept that death is just how the world works. Overall, Alus seems to be less and less willing to kill as the moons pass, guiltily procrastinating with common hobbies. Arc seems less inclined to fight beastmen as well, now, making things even more difficult.
- Alus is certainly not one to never get angry or impatient with others, but his outlook on negative social situations always end up the same after some contemplation; The past cannot be helped. Knowing what he knows now, he will aim to better work around these peoples' difficult personalities to bring the best out of them next time.
- He has an unwavering platonic love for all in the world (excluding only slugs), and believes that love allows everything and everyone to be perceived as beautiful in their own way. This has probably fueled his obsession with fashion, music, art, and floriography; beauty equals love, and love equals happiness; which is Alus' personal philosophy.
- Alus is not completely blindly optimistic, however. He has the ability to detect a trap or a lie from an acquaintance as easily as anybody else, but simply chooses to let the liar act out their plans fully before stopping it, making sure he never punishes a suspicious person who is actually truthful. This can get Alus in a lot of trouble, but he accepts it as his sworn duty, and insists he truly does not mind this way of life. However, in contrast to his normal personality, this does not stop him from speaking out pessimistically about the potentially dangerous situation as it's happening to his party members, this is perhaps to make them prepare to take things more seriously.
- Alus likes to think of himself as a perfect gentleman, but as of late, he has acted much more casual and informal than usual, occasionally even whining openly about petty things such as the cold. This personality especially comes about while being accompanied by his brother, perhaps it is due to comfort.
- Although he has gotten better as of late, he has a tendency to ramble on or talk a lot if he is not stopped. From subjects of comedic nonsense to deep philosophical discussion, Alus could talk for hours-- Even if he's not talking to anyone at all.
Religious Beliefs
"Well, what say you, Nald? Should I come by to check up on you once in awhile?" -Alus, upon visiting Nald's Reflection
- Alus is a very religious person when it comes to Nald and Thal, and shows little or no interest to the other eleven deities of The Twelve. For several moons Alus trained under the teachings of Thal's funeral preparation in memory of his fallen friends in war. Although Alus feels less associated with Nald than he does with Thal, he feels he is blessed by both halfs. As of late, Alus has been spotted praying at statues of Nald or Thal nearly every sun.
- However, Alus' behavior towards his deity could occasionally be seen as blasphemous. He seems to regard them as not much more than common equals to normal humans, though omnicorporeal and highly powerful. This might anger or irritate Nald'thal, though Alus' belief in his mutual "friendship" with the deity hardly ever wavers. He will lecture even the great Nald'thal when he believes the world has been imbalanced, and for the most part, he believes he is at least heard. He has both desecrated in anger and lovingly and carefully cleaned and kempt places of worship for Nald and Thal, fully devoting himself to the somehow realistic friendship of these invisible all-powerful beings. Regardless of his lack of god-fearing, Alus devotes his loyalty completely and utterly to Nald'thal, looking to the teaching of their churches for nearly all of his answers, even for small day-to-day things like love advice.
Battle Tendency
- Although Alus is first and foremost a Paladin, his preferred class is actually Conjury. During important field missions he will more often than not leave a trail of sleeping monsters to finish his mission with the least amount of bloodshed possible. This often comes back to bite him, as the monsters are more often than not still angry at him after they've woken up, making risks of being ambushed by a huge crowd of monsters at once very commonplace for Alus. This can sometimes be too overwhelming for him and he will abandon the mission entirely just to take a break; but only during solo play. When he is with a party, he will do everything in his power to protect everyone until the very end, even voluntarily provoking monsters with nothing more to protect him than cloth when he knows it'll help his party stay alive a little longer. Still, he will continue doing things the hard way for his own stubborn moral values, though is a little more lenient on these things when a party is supporting him. While not doing missions, Alus very much enjoys simply following strange adventurers around and helping heal them on their missions. He lives for the rush of healing 20+ adventurers during a field boss battle.
- As a Paladin, Alus is masterful with his brother by his side. The amount of monsters attacking him at once while he is still able to look out for his companions' health and heal them is sometimes ludicrous. Alus' ears tend to close during these times, however, and his personality becomes serious and stressed out, every battle becomes a matter of complete and absolute importance to him-- He uses his full power and full arrange of accumulated techniques in nearly every battle, regardless of how seemingly easy it seems, making him very emotionally tired out by the end of it.
- In contrast, the few times he had tried a two-weapon fighting style used famously by thieves and assassins, he seemed to be having more fun in battle than he ever did, dancing wildly and beautifully as if he was on a dance floor more than a monster-infested field. He often feels conflicted about seeking out teachers of this style further, as not only is it often used by cold-blooded killers which he's greatly morally opposed to, his brother is very much disliking of the thieves' guild for personal reasons.
Commonly Known History
Commonly Known History
Childhood
Alus and Arc were constantly accompanied by the traveling merchant Gwenneg Beauregard, who named them as his children. Outsiders viewed the family's relationship as close and happy, though still sometimes felt badly for Gwenneg's sole responsibility over two rowdy kids. Gwenneg never once complained; he was a man who smiled big and brightly nearly all of the time, he had a corny sense of humor and passion for telling fantastic fictional stories of princes and dragons, of which the children absolutely adored.
Teenage Years
After the disappearance of Gwenneg Beauregard due to the Calamity, the brothers effectively disappeared from view. It is unknown whether they were then taken care of another set of adopted parents, or who those parents might have been. At some point it would seem the brothers separated completely, in which time their personalities and appearances changed radically than when they were together.

Trivia
- ■ Alus and Arc's names come from the Final Fantasy III remake. Alus Restor, prince of Saronia, and Arc, one of the four Light Warriors, were considered to be close friends in the game.
- ■ The players behind Alus and Arc are not blood related 'in real life', in fact they've never physically met. Alus' PC comments, "I've known him for 8 years. He was there for me when my real family often wasn't. As far as I care, he's my real brother."
- ■ Although the characters of Alus and Arc Beauregard were created recently in 2.0, the players behind the characters have been playing Final Fantasy XIV on and off since 2010. Before that, they had been playing Final Fantasy XI on and off since roughly 2004, of which they first met in back in 2007. They were notoriously casual players, however, and never got far in the actual story quests of either games.
- ■ The initial inspiration for Alus' personality was based off of Judge Harold T. Stone from Night Court.
- ■ Alus often references Piros the 3rd from the .hack//G.U. games, including the phrase "May the stars shine upon you until the end of your journey!"
- ■ The names of Alus' two mounts, Erminia and Marion, are a reference to the 1986 manga Paros no Ken, which also somewhat served as an inspiration for Alus' desire to be a prince despite not having the birthright.
- ■ Alus can't remember native Miqo'te names.
- ■ Alus enjoys singing, but sounds terrible according to his brother.
- ■ Alus enjoys crossdressing 'for the fun of it', but does not openly publicly admit it to avoid ridicule.
- ■ Alus is supposedly a faster runner than Arc, but looses in a race regardless due to Arc's ridiculously skilled jumping ability.
- ■ Alus fits into the following TV Tropes: The Fashionista, In Touch With His Feminine Side, Long-Haired Pretty Boy, Reluctant Warrior, Flower Motifs, Light Is Good, Wholesome Crossdresser, Goshdang It To Heck!, Bathos, All-Loving Hero, Wide-Eyed Idealist, Heroic Neutral, Conflicting Loyalty, Why Did It Have To Be Snakes, Smite Me, O Mighty Smiter!, Love You And Everybody, Stupid Good, Unfit For Greatness, Warrior Poet, Cloudcuckoolander, Hidden Depths, Large Ham, You Talk Too Much, The Gambling Addict (which is a Compressed Vice), etc.
- ■ While his relationship with his brother fits into these tropes: Sibling Yin Yang, Noble Male, Roguish Male.
