History/Timeline

Childhood

Gailen was the second child of Eamon Lannis, a middle-class cloth merchant, and Marion Lannis, a blacksmith of some renown. Even at a very early age it was obvious that Eamon favoured Gailen's brother Arn over him, and this in turn made Gailen jealous of his brother who he would constantly compete against for their father's favour. This would continue until their early teens.

Teenage

Gailen's relationship to his father became strained throughout his teens. They would constantly bicker and argue with one another, with Arn always taking his father's side. While his mother was away for business, Eamon and Gailen argued until Eamon snapped. That night ended with Gailen locked up in the stable's cellar, bruised and beaten. This sadly became a common thing in his mother's absence.

Early Adulthood

At the age of twenty, Gailen enlisted into the Ishgardian army to combat the threat of the dragons. He served for three and half years before being dismissed due to the injuries he sustained.For the next 10 years he served as a bodyguard for Lady Arienne Hayholt, who was the daughter of a minor noble family.Throughout the years Gailen and Arienne grew close and had secret romance for a several years.

Recently

Arienne was told that she was to be wed to Gaerman Granson, who was the son of Lord Granson. The Gransons and the Hayholts had been bickering for years but had lately come to terms and made peace with one another. Gailen and Arienne reluctantly ended their romance and barely spoke with eachother for weeks. During this time Gailen became furious and became more stern, much to the dismay of Arienne. A few hours before his departure, Gailen had accompanied the Hayholts for a feast, arranged by the Gransons. While most of the guests were having a good time, Gailen found himself wandering throughout the halls of the estate when he came upon a conversation. It was Gaerman who was talking with some of his friends over a bottle of wine. He listened in as he could hear Arienne name being mentioned by one of the men. Gaerman openly admitted that he would only marry Arienne for the political aspect and power and proceeded to slander her name, much to his friends amusement. Gailen entered the room, walking towards Gaerman who smirked at him. "I say, if it isn't the whore's bedwar-" before he could finish his words, Gailen had already drawn his sword and planted it in the side of Gaerman's neck. His friends ran away, screaming as Gailen kept hacking and hacking and hacking till he could hack no more. A moment later, armed guards entered the room and saw Gaerman's headless body before Gailen. He fought his way through everyone who stood in his way until he reached the stables where he stole a chocobo and headed for the city gates. He looked back to the citystate of Ishgard as he entered the harsh, shivering plains of Coerthas, knowing he could never go back.
