Biography

There's nothing too incredibly exciting about the beginning of Merc's life. Born into your average family, the Hyur lived on a farm just outside of Gridania. He spent his years assisting his parents with the crops and animals until he turned thirteen. Upon reaching that age, his parents allowed his to enroll in the Conjurer's Guild in Gridania, where he spent the next several years or so training as a healer.

Once finished with his studies, Merc left Gridania and traveled around Eorzea. He would assist with typical heals, usually for the Flames, Serpents, etc. Although he enjoyed lending his healer abilities, these years were quite frustrating for him. The gil was good enough and there was -some- satisfaction to be had with healing all those innocent characters, but things were simply too predictable for the Hyur. There was no edge, no rush, nothing, and it left him fairly empty in terms of happiness and contentment. Regardless, he continued to assist and lend his healing abilities until Bahamut was released and rained destruction down on Eorzea.

After the destruction and subsequent restoration of Eorzea, Merc decided he needed a change in life (seeing the face of death tends to do that for people). He quit taking work for the different factions and simply fell off the radar; As his family and his family farm were destroyed during the chaos, it wasn't incredibly hard for him to do so. He began to engage himself in rather dangerous and risky activities, and from then on, Merc finds satisfaction by taking jobs from different bandits, accepting payment, and subsequently screwing them over so to speak. Of course this means he has quite a few enemies here and there, but he has a knack for ditching the stage right before it erupts into chaos. He's constantly changing his hair and attire so as not to be found easily, and he never stays in a place for very long.

Part of what makes Merc's character is his incredibly unpredictable nature. For instance, sometimes he will accept gil for payment for a job, other times he accepts a picture of a smiley face. The only ones Merc is ever loyal to are his friends (which, mind you, are far and few in between). Otherwise he may do a job with no consequences for the employer, but sometimes he likes to muck things up for the employer once the job is completed. That being said, he always follow through with his work; you just might get more than you bargained for upon hiring this wildcard of a Hyur.
