Frida and Mani Rosespear, a merchant and a clothmender respectively, were two members of the Maaso tribe, a group of families living by the south of Ala Mhigo. The Maaso held many customs, like the tradition of 'emblempainting', where a newly-wed couple would design an emblem that them and their children would carry, until those children were to marry. The paint, a mix of jojoba oil, arrowroot powder and natural white pigment, was made by the family itself- and it symbolized pride upon one's family, unity, and equality amongst the families.

Tucked in a little village of the East Shroud, lives a little family of two; Chaie Rosespear, an apothecary-slash-herbalist and her daughter-slash-student-slash-protegée, three year old Mimina Mimina. The Little Ala Mhigan maid, fairly hailed not only for her deep knowledge of curative botanica, and a careful analysis of a patient's particular needs and ailments, Chaie is also fair on chiropractic and urgent treatment of a wounded patient.
The Maaso often faced marginalization and scorn from city-staters, and had a long-running tense relationship with the Ala Mhigan government over territorial and resource disputes. But what seemed bad then suddenly took a gigantic downfall when the Garleans invaded Ala Mhigo, taking land and lives- city-staters and tribesfolk alike. Together, they fled to Thanalan, settling in small camps that would be what is known as Little Ala Mhigo. Hearing news of the camp, the pregnant Frida and Mani fled their town as soon as they could, only carrying what food and water they could take and their son, little Duein, in arms. Their youngest and last child, Chaie, was born with many difficulties; the bad situation Frida has to endure not only affected mother, but also child. A weak, fragile child; the first to sicken upon the winter's chill, one who stumbled in heaps upon the shortest of jogs. Yet the child, as she grew, was able to counteract the bullying and scorn met from her weak body with an aptitude for natural healing, and despite still being fueled with an incontrollable envy for her fellow Highlander children and their standard-fitting appearances and aptitudes, decided to take on healing as a way to help her parents earn their bread. Yet her brother, Duein, who was by all means the perfect Ala Mhigan, strong and kind, decided to help 'regain the motherland', as he said, and took on to one of the first revolutionary groups near the stronghold- disappearing since. The anguish proved too much for Chaie, who deeply cared for her brother, and decided to try and 'follow after him', taking on to Gridania, earning money through her healing that she would split for herself and her parents. And thus hs she lived, fragile little Chaie, healing with herbs and oils and animal bloods, massaging and cracking bones, praying and chanting and singing her patients' woes away.</div></div>

Her talents are attributed to her more celebrated and renowned master, Mumuni Muni, who gained fame for her almost miraculous talents and had patients from all around Eorzea, anxiously waiting a consult- before her tragic demise birthing her daughter. It can be said with much security, then, that what drives Chaie forward is not quite to seize the fame and glory her master reclutantly carried, but to be able to make the late apothecary proud and to set an example for her protegée and student, Mimina, who she hopes will want to follow the art that has been carried for two generations.

Chaie- and her brother, Duein's parents, Frida and Mani Rosespear, were two members of the Maaso settlement; a group of families living by the south of Gyr Abania, near the city-state of Ala Mhigo. The Maaso, rich with ancient customs despite being a small community, were accepted as brothers by the Ala Mhigans during the escape to Thanalan, where Little Ala Mhigo was formed; there was Chaie born, a weak, sickly child unfitting of the standards of beauty set to Ala Mhigans during her childhood. A meek, frail girl next to her tall, confident brother- they were Chaie and Duein, close as two coats of paint- but where Chaie looked at curanderism and was taken in by Mumuni, Duein looked at greater goals- like avenging the motherland. And so, at the young age of eighteen, Duein left to become one of the first Ala Mhigan revolutionary squadrons- only to never be heard of again.

Often are the days Chaie mourns for what she believes to be her late brother, and her late master- yet, careful to step her 'mother' out of her wallowing, Mimina shines like a beacon on the light- giving the maid purpose and duty for her life.</div></div>

<div style="padding: 7px 4px;font-size:13px; color:#26212B;font-family:Georgia;">Dark of skin and thin of arm, Chaie stands at five fulms and six ilms; way below average height for the average Highlander. Stress, malnutrition and dehydration suffered by Frida Rosespear caused her child to be born with many health deficiencies. A virtually inexistant immune system causes the girl to sicken with extreme ease- and it is visible. What would undoubtedly be a lovely dark bronze skin tone blended with an unhealthy pallor, resulting in an almost yellow tint.

A virtually inexistent immune system causes the girl to sicken with extreme ease- and, at times, that much is visible to the naked eye. During particularly bad days- these happening too frequently for her liking- her dark bronze skin tone blends with an unhealthy pallor, resulting in an almost yellow, greyish tint, blossoming with a lace-like purplish tonality in spots.
Dry, almost mottled-looking skin usually coaxed with shea oils, obvious dark circles, blossoming in purples and dark blues, concealed with makeup; dull, unruly hair held up with cloths.

Not oft is she seen without her family's emblem facepaint- one she proudly wears, applying the white thick.
Never is she seen without her family's emblem facepaint- one she proudly wears, applying the white thick, allowing the contrast between her skin and the paint to maximize the obviousness of the emblem.

As for her bone structure, her jaw is soft-lined; her nose is a bit wide and her lips are full and the most notable part of her face. he is naught often seen without rouge on. Her black eyes are quite intense; in the sense that they are framed by deep, dark circles and quite eerily long eyelashes. Her brows, which usually rest hidden between bushy bangs, show a permanent motion of concern. Despite being a very thin and small child on her childhood, as of a couple of years she has gained a bit more weight, something she is undoubtedly glad about. Rounded hips and quite full thighs accompany a soft stomach. Her muscle definition is practically nonexistent, and it is quite easy for almost anyone to beat her in a hypothetical fight.

This, of course, did not befit the standards of Highland ideality and beauty, resulting in a deep grounding bitterness and rage.

This, of course, did not befit the standards of Highland ideality and beauty, resulting in a deep grounding bitterness and rage. She is quick to burn out, and as such, much of her energy is stuck within her, forcing her to keep her emotions to herself. Thus, she is secretive, and spins from periods of self-pity and self-rejection with ease. Prone to intense envy and wrath, she is not one to place her mind above her heart, and when scorned, she will almost never forgive with ease. Very supersticious and negative in her thoughts, she can be described as a 'bitter' person by one who sees into her thought currents. While a deeply caring person to those she loves and cherishes, she can be a bit of a 'smother', and can quickly overwhelm with her manners of showing affection, and protection. Overbearing and overnurturing.

Despite her undeniable proneness to negativity and jealousy, she is a very strong sympathizer- and holds a very, very strong sense of condolence; a naturally nurturing person who wishes the best for her close folks and is wholeheartedly prepared to accompany them along the way. She is passionate, and easy to befriend; thoughtful, loyal, and eager to help. Likes her job as a healer, as she appreciates being able to improve people's lives without burning herself out in the process; she often likes to check on past patients to see how they are doing. However, she would rather take on adventuring in a job such as thaumaturgy- yet the danger upon her health would be far too great.

Very motherly and likes her job as a healer, as she appreciates being able to improve people's lives without burning herself out in the process; she often likes to check on past patients to see how they are doing. She’d be much more keen on adventuring or doing any sort of grand, exciting quests, yet at the same time she is a strong conformist who is content with what she has in life.
Appreciates conversation, and likes being with individuals who she can joke with. Her speech pattern is quite peculiar, as she is often short of breath before finishing a full sentence; resulting in her taking breaths and sighs in-between words, and stopping talking before continuing once again.

Firm opposer of the phrase 'the ends justify the means', and very hesistant to cooperate with anyone who fares from Garlean lands. She is a firm believer of karmic processes, and avoids doing hurtful deeds. Quite clever, yet easy to become distracted during lectures and academic purposes. Loves cooking, but can't afford the costs often.</div>

In her speech, she is witty, and appreciates showing concern as a form of showing her care for a person. Likes to talk about politics, and gets very very passionate about her viewpoints- however, she appreciates friendly banter and small talking. At times, she is often short of breath for speaking too fast, and she often sighs of huffs to catch her breath before finishing speaking- it's embarassing for her, and she often covers her mouth so it is not as visible; or so she thinks.

IX - THE SHAMAN
Chaierosespeardivider.png
Hail to Earth / Hail to the Sun / whose rays illuminate all things. / Turn your eyes, look down, / see this destroyed woman, / as she sets two bloodied hands / may it all perish, / crash down in ruins.

Medea by Euripides [text 1260], translation by Ian Johnston

GENERAL INFORMATION

Tucked in a little village of the East Shroud, lives a little family of two; Chaie Rosespear, an apothecary-slash-herbalist and her daughter-slash-student-slash-protegée, three year old Mimina Mimina. The Little Ala Mhigan maid, fairly hailed not only for her deep knowledge of curative botanica, and a careful analysis of a patient's particular needs and ailments, Chaie is also fair on chiropractic and urgent treatment of a wounded patient.

Often are the days Chaie mourns for what she believes to be her late brother, and her late master- yet, careful to step her 'mother' out of her wallowing, Mimina shines like a beacon on the light- giving the maid purpose and duty for her life.

APPEARANCE

Dark of skin and august of gait, Chaie stands at five fulms and six ilms; way below average height for the average Highlander; stress, malnutrition and dehydration suffered by Frida Rosespear caused her child to be born with many health deficiencies.

Mottled-looking skin usually coaxed with shea oils, obvious dark circles, blossoming in purples and dark blues, concealed with makeup; Wild, short hair carefully taken care of, and on bad days, held up or covered with cloths. Chaie carries the smell of jasmines, sourced from a small cologne bottle she carries all the time, to hide the imaginary, imminent smell of illness that she is constantly paranoid about emitting. Not oft is she seen without her family's emblem facepaint- one she proudly wears, applying the white thick.

Aspects That Stand Out:
Bright white face paint on face- two lines along the cheeks, with four lines of dots on each side; then three dots above the right eyebrow.
Thick lips are the first thing that's visible, then a slightly large nose, then the hint of dark eye circles.
A body too tall to be an average Midlander, yet too short for an average Highlander.

PERSONALITY

Chaie is, in many aspects, a very contrasting person; while there is a sheer passion deep inside her soul, the body she was born in allows her no form of physical outing for that intensity, instead providing only a flickering, fragile flame.

She is passionate, and easy to befriend; thoughtful, tender, and eager to help.

Firm opposer of the phrase 'the ends justify the means', and very hesistant to cooperate with anyone who fares from Garlean lands. She is a firm believer of karmic processes, and avoids doing hurtful deeds- at times, not so much as to not hurt the other person, but to avoid finding her own comeuppance. Quite clever, yet easy to become distracted during lectures and academic purposes.

L I K E S

Cheesy romantic novels. 'Oh dear, an elezen maid deeply in love with a young miqo'te lad! But her highborn family, and his duties as a tribe member- what will happen!'
Tactile sensation of fabrics. Growing up, her mother often went to Ul'dah to provision and buy goods to sell- and often did Chaie accompany her. Feeling silks, satins and velvet with her digits became a guilty pleasure for the girl.

D I S L I K E S

Seeing elderly people eating alone. Although not knowing what causes it, a deep anguish and compassion fills her upon seeing lone diners on restaurants and inns- despite oft eating alone herself.
Extreme cold weather.Has never visited Coerthas, and does not plan on doing so.

Cooking.Despite being far from a most outstanding culinarian, she is passionates and finds deep enjoyment and solace in the process of cooking- and is very, very proud of her chicken stew and will absolutely have anyone try it at all costs.
Interest in botany. Despite being abysmal at it.

S T R E N G T H S

Compassionate. Deeply sympathetic with people in situations of hurt and suffering.
Kind. Gentle-worded and of sweet wit, she is easy to talk to and gives off a comforting aura.
Clever. While not necessarily in the academic way, Chaie is ingenious and quite capable to fend a problem off herself.
Nurturing. Almost motherly. Cares deeply for her folks, and feeds kind words and caring actions.

W E A K N E S S E S

Envious. Very prone to jealously and envy, oft to those who has what she wants or needs.
Vengeful. Does NOT forgive with ease, and can hold a grudge for a very impressive amount of time- and will get her revenge, as petty or cruel as it might be.
Bitter. Often soaks in periods of self-pity and negativeness.
Supersticious. Averts her gaze upon seeing black cats, burns incense during new moons to attract good luck, sprinkles salt on the corners of her rooms to ward off evil spirits. It gets tiring.

Character's Thoughts: "My love! My sweet girl! Light of my world, my angel..!"
One fateful day, however, her lonely days came to a halt when in a business trip (if travelling to Ul’dah to treat an elder lady with joint pains counts), Chaie found a little whimpering sack in the floors of the back of Pearl Lane. Upon closer, concerned inspection, what was hidden would shock anyone- a newborn baby Lalafell, almost small enough to fit her open hand- burrowed in between sheets, alone and distressed. Chaie’s tenderness sensors flew off the radar, and in an act of perhaps thoughtlessness and brashness, she took the baby as her own- a thin baby, underfed and completely alone.. What kind of parent, genuinely worried for their child’s well being, would allow this?

And so, Chaie adopted little Mimina- named after the Dunesfolk customs, judging by the film that covered the baby’s eyes; Mimina Rosespear.. Who her mother would paint the Rosespear family paint upon her little cheeks every day. Perhaps not her mother by blood, Chaie loves Mimina no less- to the point where she would do anything, -anything-, to ensure her daughter’s safety and happiness. However, not even she can stop pain from coming to her child- she knows that her child will face much toils, and people willing to make her doubt herself and her family. She fears this openly- not willing to see her child in pain, becoming a growing and growing concern for the other. How can she protect her child from the scorn of people? What can she do to prevent this from happening? Can she even prevent it, or stop it from happening?

Many questions swarm the Sickmaid’s mind- about her people, her homeland, her brother, her daughter..Will she perhaps quell them all?

RUMORS

N P C

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
" Oh, the healer with the little lalafell daughter! Yes, yes, a curious sight, is it not? I heard she- the hyur maid, the mother- was the protegée of Mumuni Muni herself, the apothecary. She saved my husband's uncle's life- apparently he had some sort of tumor growing, but Mumuni was quick enough to salvage it! Who knows how in the world she did it. Anyways, I heard the little lalafell girl that goes around the hyur maid is Mumuni's daughter, and she was taken in by her mother's student as a protegée herself. She seems to truly love her, always kissing her cheeks and carrying her around- she sometimes comes and plays with my little Roland!" - Mother of the village.
"Ooooh, young Chaie? She's a good girl, yes, that one- see, I had a horrible back pain, oooh! Horrible, yes, yes! So my friend, Hacinta, she told me, "I used to have horrible digestion, but my cousin told me of an Ala Mhigan maid in the East Shroud who can fix just about anything!" and so, dearest Hacinta went with the maidey, and you'll never guess- she was good as new! So I, myself, went to meet this famed lady.. My back was killing me, yes! It was horrifying! But the sweet little lady lit up some fine-smelling incense- not before serving me some fine tea and a good chat, she did- massaged my back down a bit- and cracked me right up! Oh, yes! Haha! How satisfying it was- crack, crack, did this old lady's back go- and never have I felt better! She gave me some peculiar herbs she told me to boil down to tea and drink every morning, so I did, yes- And I tell you, I'm good as new! My back is as strong as a young maid's! Oh, hahaha! Nophica bless that girl!" - Elderly hyur lady from Gridania.
" Ah, the poor thing.. She was in the Rosewood Stalls, buying groceries from my friend Francis, when she suddenly started coughing- incontrollably. Her breath was so very raspy, and her face was so very red- we feared she was going to die! When she stopped coughing, she seemed disoriented, and her forehead was burning to the touch.. But she quickly shook us off, taking a little lalafell with her. I asked around what had happened to her- apparently she is fine, and that is a common occurence for her. I feel bad for the poor lady." - Merchant from the Rosewood Stalls.
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"You won't believe what the lass gave me! I mean, I'm not angry.. It worked, aye.. But, I was so fucken' disgusted! ALright. So I had this weird itchin' going on in my back, right? So I go with the maid, quite pretty.. Not the prettiest I've seen but still pretty.. All good. She offers me shit; tea, snacks. All good. Then I explain, 'aight, I've got this weird itchin' going, ya got any creams for that?" So she starts askin' me all this shite, if I've been workin' around the Deepcroft or the manor or shit, so I go like, 'Yah, I had to do some rounds around the Deepcroft." So then tells me to wait, and she goes outside her hut. I hear weird shit going on outside, as in animal noises. Probably a dodo, I think? And she returns with a bowl filled with a dark soupish thing- and she tells me to take off my shirt. I'm freaked out by now, but do. She starts chanting weird shit- a weird, freaky song, I guess, and she pours something on me- I guess it was what was on the bowl.. but it's warm. And liquidy, and smells coppery-- this lass was pouring blood on my back! I'm freaking the shite out, but the worst thing is she starts to scratch my back- it didn't hurt, more like she was scrubbing. It was so fuckin' scary, mate. But at least the itchin' came right off- I have no idea what the fuck happened, to this day." - Alarmed Wood Wailer.
"Hmm.. The Sickmaid? Oh, yeah, she lived here- the youngest of Frida and Mani. Her brother-oh, Duein, sweet Duein- he was so different from his sister. He was strong and tall- the perfect Ala Mhigan.. And he left to fight for it. Then she left- after him, I guess, but she realized she shouldn't be doing such dangerous things and settled in Gridania. Good decision.. How would a weak lil' runt who always mewled to her parents about feeling sick survive in the wild? This is the real world." - Little Ala Mhigan man.
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"Hmm.. That miss.. Dark skin, short hair? With white face-paint on? If it's who I'm thinking, she was the one who got into a fight a couple years back. Oh, it was horrible. There was blood everywhere, and she- a frail little thing, she was- she was covered in blood. Her own blood, from her nose, from her mouth. Oh, dear. I think it was over something about the refugees- I don't know what happened after, it wasn't my shift." - Alehouse Wench. "
