Countess Yael de Cahernaut stands as the current head of her family. Whilst not nobility by blood, the titles she carries were placed upon her shoulders with the final request of her adoptive mother. A Hyur inheriting that of an Elezen house, a namesake the Ishgardian woman constantly worries over for she does not wish to sire the downfall of a once proud family. Currently in service to House Durendaire, the family Cahernaut holds a fleeting desire to spread influence and trade outside of Ishgard whilst still keeping close ties to those of Ishgards High Houses. An astrologian skilled in the arts of both Ishgard and Sharlayan practice, Yael is far from the average card slinging witch. Her craft is one she aims to perfect, whilst keeping tradition and the knowledge of her peers close. Whilst holding proficient skill in astromancy, the Hyur is not one to shy away from weaponry. Her education included the use of a rapier which she is oft' seen sporting. APPEARANCE Yael is a frail and fragile hyur appearing to be in her mid to late twenties. She is of a slender and tall build, and it is often mentioned that she should work towards gaining a few extra ponze. Lines of stress and fatigue prematurely age her delicate and regal countenance. Yet all the same she carries herself with almost unwavering confidence, her expression often tainted by an ever-present smile that lays siege to painted lips. A mess of shortly cropped auburn hair rests atop her crown, little care given to its style save for brushing. Mismated hues of silver and gold watch the world in mild interest, heterochromia that is rarely noticed. Aspects That Stand Out: ■ Thin, bony, and almost sickly in appearance. ■ A painted, ever-present smile is worn that never seems to reach her eyes. PERSONALITY “You haven't tired of the game. You're just sorry I'm not so easily played.” L I K E S ■ Adult Novels. A well kept secret, the Ishgardian noblewoman is a fan of the written art. Should one snoop through her belongings they would likely find quite a few hidden books. ■ Politics. She quite enjoys the company of those with quick wit, and the ability to hold their own in a debate over political views. D I S L I K E S ■ Jealousy. She finds little use in those that base their decisions with jealousy in mind. ■ The Holy See. Yael has a quiet dislike for the Holy See, and the turmoil the city has fallen into after recent events. ■ Astrologians. Throughout the numerous cycles spent studying her craft, the young Astrologian gained firm appreciation for the delicacy required in keeping Astromancy an undiluted art. She does not believe it to be something one should willingly teach, and the open way in which many share their craft is something to be ashamed of. H O B B I E S ■ Stargazing. The night instills a sense of comfort that little else is capable of providing. The celestial witch breathes, and lives for the stars above. From tracking their movements to bathing in their light every eve'. It is rare a night goes by where she is kept indoors. S T R E N G T H S ■ Confidence. Be it through connections or dirtied politics, she will take whatever it is she can get. ■ Immortality. ( ♥ ) - The Dreaded. Character's Thoughts: "Twas' fated discourse that fanned my ire." Whilst blood is shared between them, Yael will never view Velora as her mother. Having been given up at birth, for reasons the witch views as unfit, trust and care never had the chance to blossom between a mother and daughter as it should. A childish anger taints Yael's opinion of her birth mother, and likely always will. Rekuta Persephone, Twin Brother. ( ♥ ) - The Rival. Character's Thoughts: "Mine heart beats alongside yours, yet forever we shall be at odds." Rekuta is looked upon with an odd sense of fondness that seems almost possessive in nature. Whilst the two grew up separately it has not stopped Yael from gifting him the entirety of her trust without cause. In her eyes he can do no wrong, his only blemish being the opportunities he was offered and she was denied. A strong, and often violent, rivalry has developed between the two and Yael will forever struggle to gain his respect and attention. Mariaute Cahernaut, Mother. ( ♥ ) - The Generous. Character's Thoughts: "There is naught I could give that might repay your generosity." Few words can describe the gratitude Yael feels towards Mariaute, for without her she would be nothing. The Elezen woman is a stalwart role model, and a pillar of stability in an otherwise tumultuous life. M'leeha Rhiki, Confidant. ( ♥ ♥ ) - The Chosen. Character's Thoughts: "At my side you shall be gifted the entirety of the world, there is naught I would deny you." Leeha is as close to the Countess as any shall ever be, and the Miqo'te rose quickly in station as she gained Yael's trust. There are very few whom hold the power to speak on behalf of Yael, yet Leeha has long earned the right to act in the name of the Cahernaut family. Her friend. Her right hand. Her family. NON-FAMILY Mordred Lyloche, Trusted. ( ♥ ♦ ✔ ) - The Struggler. Character's Thoughts: "Demons are demons for Her Children oft struggle to slay them. So what is a man who slays demons?" A chance meeting between the Temple Knight and the ward blossomed into a sprawling friendship that has withstood the threads of fate and the tides of time. While the circumstances continue to shift and the world continues to change, one thing remains ever-certain: Yael can rely on Mordred Lyloche. Lydia Lyloche, Proven. ( ♥ ♦ ✔ ) - The Dragon. Character's Thoughts: "In a different light, one might think her a wyrm. Through a dance of shadows, she accompanies him on a haunted path." The first time Yael had laid eyes upon this woman, she held the grandest of titles as the victor of the summers games. Most shall forever stand in her shadow for the honors she holds are many. A friend. A confidant. A champion. Glace Silencieuse, Friend. ( ♦ ✔ ) - The Hand. Character's Thoughts: "Trusted, tested... I would not be where I now stand without your council." Frost knows the very darkest secrets that lock her heart away, and whilst he has never done anything to break her trust she can not help but fear betrayal. He was seen for a time as a loose end, one to be kept on a short leash, though his recent commitment to her House has calmed her nerves. She would assist him without question, and he is one of few she considers friend. Sigurd Sundsteigen, Companion. ( ♦ ✔ ) - The Reminder. Character's Thoughts: "If only fate had blessed us so... You truly are the man to inherit mine burdens." Sigurd is, and shall forever be, a constant reminder of a life she wishes desperately to escape. He is a good man, one of solid heart and character, but a man that had accompanied her in her darkest of days. Sigurd and Yael rarely talk now, as his newfound inheritance has placed them within separate worlds. Raphael Delarue, Untrusted. ( ✖ ) - The Fallen. Character's Thoughts: “An offered gift led only to the betrayal of my trust. He fell with broken wing rather than soaring with the greatness I had all but ensured.” Captivated by the boy from the first moment they had met, Yael had offered to gift him the greatest treasure she could manage. Greedily he claimed such a prize, and turned his back on her no more than a few suns later. She had trusted, and such trust nearly lead her to ruin. Forever more he is to be considered a stain on her past, and a harsh lesson on offered trust. Tejshar Arcanubis, Entranced. ( ♥� ) - The Devil. Character's Thoughts: “As my own heart beats, I am forever drawn closer. Yet fated, I am, to continuously fall.” An enchanted curiosity keeps Tejshar within the mind of the witch, yet it is something she will vehmently deny. Olivia Uragshi, Untrusted. ( ✖ ) - The Forgotten. Character's Thoughts: “Of whom do you speak?” There was a moment where Yael had found herself within the young Au Ra, a fondness inspired by few. Yet through recent events the witch had discovered a plot to take her very life, and forever more Yael shall be untrusting of one she had hoped to kindle a lasting friendship with. Vivida Vida, Trusted. ( ♦ $ ✔ ) - The Innocent. Character's Thoughts: "I might only beg forgiveness, and even then I am far from deserving." Currently Miss Vivida Vida heads the artisans of House Cahernaut. Without this bright Lalafellen woman the day to day operations of the house would be neglected. She is as dependable and generous as they come. Daniel Lockheart, Tested. ( ♦ $ ✔ ) - The Disapproving. Character's Thoughts: "A man most odd, yet he carries my banner well." Still quite the stranger Yael has done little to formally get antiquated with this man. Yet it would seem the youthful countess is to trust him at the head of her armed forces. The Baron, as she has so titled him, is viewed as a harsh and unforgiving man. Croix Entavri, Acquaintance. ( ★ $ ● ) - The Climber. Character's Thoughts: "Mine curiosity peaked and withered in but a sun, how far might one reach?" A victim of the her curiosity, Croix, has all but ensured his current place at Yael's side by gaining her ear. Many remain weary of those so quickly falling into Yael's favor, and he has achieved such in but a few suns. She keeps a busy schedule of social appearances, and meetings. Her family has opened recruitment of their House, hoping to expand their influence throughout Eorzea. ■ Whilst hesitant to share and teach the knowledge of her craft, Yael is an astrologian experienced in both Sharlayan and Ishgardian practices. Though should one prove themselves worthy, in her eyes, she will consider taking them under her for proper tutelage. Character Lore Adherence I try to write and remain as close to the lore as possible, alas not every question or idea holds verifiable answer. Everything concerning this character that has not been confirmed by in-game lore should be taken with a grain of salt. We all have personal headcanon for elements of the universe that are not explained, I shall respect yours if you will agree to respect mine.
