Standing at nearly six fulms tall, Alaria is slightly shorter than below average for the males of his race; with his lilac irises, plump lips, slim build, and skin the color of pale peach blossoms. Taking great care to keep up a presentable image whilst out in the public eye, you'll always see the Elezen's rose tinted hair braided up in a neat ponytail while his bangs hang gently across the sides of his cheeks and forehead. The scar that envelops completely around a small portion of Alaria's neck is always carefully concealed by a variety of ever-changing means (makeup, enchantments, scarves, etc.) unless he's alone. And because of his high affinity with nature, there are usually flower petals hidden within his clothing, or occasionally woven into his hair. Preferring long flowing robes made of thin materials that make traveling within the Black Shroud bearable (especially during the warmer seasons), Alaria can also be seen wearing large, decorated straw hats that block out the sun and loose cotton shirts and pants when working in his garden.

When he was only a boy, Alicio learned all too quickly the harsh realities of the real world when his small village was razed to the ground by a band of merciless bandits known only as the Phantom Reapers. As a sea of flames engulfed everything in sight, and the dying screams of the villagers the young Elezen could only call family began to crescendo, Alicio swore to himself that his last breath on this earth wouldn't be taken quietly. But what could a fledgling mage, barely coming into his magic, possibly accomplish against cold-blooded murderers? The leader of the bandits -whether out of curiosity or plain cruelty- decided to take interest in the broken boy and gave him an ultimatum; 'stand your ground to die a worthless death like all the others, or give your life over in service to me'. A seed of malice silently took root, and the Black Shroud saw the birth of a new Reaper that day.
By the time the Duskwight's seventeenth namesday came around, Alaria had grown into his magical abilities quite gracefully with only his owner's stolen tomes to glance through for guidance. With strengths in healing, and a steadily growing knowledge of medicinal herbs, he found his worth within the Reapers increasing with each passing day. It should have terrified him, how easily he grew to accept this life of banditry. But even as he watched the light die out of the eyes of countless innocents who were once like himself, the only thing driving Alaria forward was the day he'd finally be strong enough to drive his master's longsword straight through whatever the man considered to be a heart. Unfortunately, the future is only rarely how we plan for it to be. And before the young man even knew what to make of the path before him, Alaria found his crimson stained world suddenly flipped upside-down by the person who was to steal his very soul.
His name was Jidert Gliehanc, a Wood Wailer barely out of recruitment who wouldn't know a dangerous situation even if it roundhouse kicked him in the stomach. Annoyingly loud, terribly nosy, and stupidly brave; Alaria hated the Wildwood almost as much as he did tanning. But there was something about the man that he could never quite place, some invisible force that always seem to bring the two of them together no matter how hard the pink-haired youth tried to fight against it. Unexpected meetings soon became secret rendezvous deep within the forest as walls crumbled to dust, and precious promises were whispered for no others ears but their own. Children dream of sugar sweet fairy tales and happily ever afters as if they have a right to such things, and Alaria was no different. But he was a child no longer, hadn't been for a long time, so it was foolish to believe that his fantasy dream would last forever.
They would get married, maybe not right away because preparing for an eternal bond took time and dedication, but it was something they were willing to work on. They'd build a nice little house in the Nine Ivies to escape Gridania's day-to-day, close to Hawthorne Hut where they could start putting all the pieces together. They'd be happy, and one day Alaria might've finally stop wishing to have simply died all those years ago. That hope shattered to oblivion as the sword that had haunted the healer's every waking nightmare tore apart Jidert's chest as if the man had simply been made of paper. It's said that in great times of emotional turmoil, mortals are capable of extraordinary feats. And in that instant, Alaria felt only red.
For the spell weavers of Gridania and her citizens alike, keeping the balance of the Elementals are but second nature. All things in this world come with a price -equivalent exchange- and magic is no different. One cannot simply wield an element without first offering up anything in return, or risk the suffering of woodsin. But as Jidert's frozen orbs stared lifelessly towards the heavens, Alaria welcomed forth a tainted flame that swelled within the darkest reaches of his heart and turned all before him to ash. The creature who'd dared claim to be his master was now but a memory, and the all too inevitable price for enacting the Elements' wrath could hardly compare after what had already been stolen from him.
As the searing band of malevolence etched itself around Alaria's throat, it marked the end of many things: his revenge for the childhood he'd lost, the ability to speak, and the future with a man he loved more than even himself. But it would soon be the start to a brand new chapter in this ever changing tale; the story of the Black Shroud's Blossom Witch was only just beginning.

Even in silence Alaria is able to speak volumes through his careful bodily movements and extensive collection of ever changing facial expressions. At first glance the Elezen might seem a bit hard to approach (considering most of his free time consists of gardening and meditating in shallow rivers), but once one takes that initial step it becomes quite easy to see the emotionally scarred man hidden behind the flowers and sassy façade. Believing that when you allow yourself to care for another, you only end up hurting yourself in the end, Alaria refuses to go out of his way to put himself into unnecessary danger. Doing only what he deems necessary at any given moment, the healer shows both spite and compassion in equal measures when one or the other is due. Quick to distrust, Alaria will only expect the worst of someone until given a reason to believe otherwise.
