Appearance
Kodie is normally seen wearing a wine red coat, blue pants, brown boots, and red iron works glove. While in battle he wears a Garlean mask that has been altered to assist him in combat situations, it can also be used to scan areas to search for life signs, enhance his accuracy, and detect the majority of traps.
Kodie's eyes are dark red, it is not known the reason for this unnatural occurrence he was just born with it. There is also a facial scar one the left side of his face.
History
Kodie's parents were both members of the Wood Wailers. His father was a Lancer, and his mother was an Archer. Though when his mother was pregnant with him, they settled in Hyrstmill. His mother would remain guarding the village itself, while his father would constantly go in missions into the Black Shroud. However at the age of five, Kodie's father was killed in combat against the Ixali. Afterwards his mother would leave the Wood Wailers to focus on taking care of Kodie. To make gil, she worked as weapons and armor mender also assist Gerolt. For a young Kodie, he spent most of his times outside of the town, venturing through the Shroud, causing trouble anyway a young Hyur could. At age eight, Kodie would search to find a four year old Miqo'te girl who was lost in the Shroud, stuck in a tree, he would end up rescuing her and bringing her back to her own mother. The little Miqo'te was Nolwen Stormwinder, she and her mother had recently moved from Ul'dah. Nolwen thought the world on her savior, and would follow him every time he ventured outside. While Kodie was someone resistant at first, he found her company comforting and the two became friends. At age thirteen, his mother would end up taking an illness, and despite the assistance of conjurers from Gridania, and Nolwen (who seemed to have strong natural healing abilities), they were unable to save her, and eventually Kodie's mother would pass away. A year later, Kodie decided he would become an Adventurer, before leaving his home, Nolwen caught up with him, giving him a flower that was coated in amber as something to remember her.
Like any new Adventurer, Kodie had his fair share of struggles, but managed to get through them. He started out as a Lancer, attempting to follow in his father's foot steps. However, he did not become a Wood Wailer, or even join a Grand Company, instead sticking with smaller Free Companies. Despite his troubles as a Lancer, he still continued and did so for five years, but the Calamity would change that all.
Kodie and his Free Company would not be assigned to fight in the Battle of Carteneau, instead his unit would be sent to Eastern Thanalan to fight off any potential flanking units the Garlean Empire would dispatch. Just as expected, there was such an attack for, and his Free Company would be there to intercept, however in the middle of the fight, everyone stopped to hear the roaring from the distance, and they too would feel the affect of Bahamut's destruction. The attack devastated not only his forces, but the Garlean unit, killing virtually everyone, and leaving Kodie gravely wounded. Kodie's wounds were so dire, that he was prepared to let fate take him, however he reached into his armor to find the flower coated in amber, remembering Nolwen and her reminder never to forget her. It was just the strength he had need to stand back up and make his way toward Camp Dry Bone, from there he passed out right in front of the camp, but thankfully he was tended to. It took him several months to recover from his injuries, even with the help of a Conjurer, who did stick with him through it.
After he recovered, Kodie would trade his lance away for a bow, becoming an Archer. He quickly became a highly skilled archer, finding that he was better with ranged than he was close up. He and the Conjurer ended up forming a relationship, and joining an free company. For the next few years they seemed to be doing well, he was even engaged to the conjurer, and they went on to accomplish many things with their free company. The happy times did not last long though, and eventually Kodie and the conjurer would break their relationship off, this caused Kodie to become distant with the Free Company, and he would eventually leave. He later found out his former love was engaged to someone else right away and his former allies further distanced themselves from him, no longer wanting to be associated with Kodie. He would end up spending many nights drinking himself to a drunken stupor at the Drowning Wench, losing any and all motivation for Adventuring, blaming himself for what had happened. That was until a spastic little Miqo'te yelled out his name, and before he knew it he was tackled and knocked unconscious by a Nolwen Stormwinder.
Kodie would awaken the next morning, it took a moment but he then realized it was her, after ten years apart the two were reunited. Nolwen was a new Adventurer, wanting to see the world finally, she surprised him with the fact she was given a job already and was about to leave for that. Kodie was wary about her job as Nolwen told him she was offered a job by someone not affiliated with Limsa, or any guilds. He would let her go on the job as she promised to return so they could talk about the past ten years, Kodie's suspicion and worry was too much for him to stay, so he followed her. He was correct to be wary as she was tricked by the man who was there with several pirates to capture her. Their plan was to capture unsuspecting female Eorzeans, and sell them off as slaves outside of the continent. Kodie was able to fight them off and free her, then the two would seek out the pirates' hide out, and dispatch them, freeing the other captives. Though Nolwen was felt discouraged in regard to what happened, she was prepared to quit being an Adventurer and return home. Kodie encouraged her to continue the path, and he would be there with her every step of the way, making sure she would learn the ropes. That quickly changed Nolwen's mind, and the two became inseparable ever since.
Kodie, and Nolwen stuck to working small adventuring jobs, and to no surprise, Nolwen was quickly becoming an accomplished Adventurer. She would show him affection, and at first he didn't return it due to his damaged heart, he slowly began to respond to it. One night, it hit him that Kodie realized that the love for the other he had felt didn't seem like the love he had felt for Nolwen, this was different. After the past few months they spent together, Kodie finally professed his love to her, a love that Nolwen had always had for him since the day he rescued her. He apologized for taking so long to realize this and then purposed to her, not wanting to waste any time and lose her again. She of course agreed, and the two quickly had their Eternal Bond ceremony.
He did learn the ways of a Pugilist, wanting to improve his hand to hand combat skills in case he would need them. Though despite being a very accomplished, and highly skilled Archer, Kodie would trade in his bow for a gun to become a Machinist as soon as the gates to Ishgard was open to outsiders. Kodie and Nolwen did explore the lands surrounding Ishgard, honing their own skills in the process.
Personality
Kodie can have a very calm, and cool personal, though at times he can have moments of being very high strung. He is also very confident and can come off as cocky, due to being a veteran adventurer. Despite his experience, he will always be helpful to an inexperienced Adventurer, knowing full well what he had endured when he started. He can also be extremely loyal to the people he cares about. His flaws are at times he will keep his negative emotions bottled up, and can be prone to heavy drinking.
Other Notes
Kodie is an Adventurer for Hire, and when he and Nolwen are not out exploring the lands, they have settled in Eastern La Noscea. There they take jobs either acquiring items for Wineport that would be otherwise dangerous merchants to obtain, or escort tourists from Costa Del Sol who wish to explore the jungles of the land. Though Kodie can be found in Quicksand, or The Drowning Wench, while Nolwen is working on projects with the Thurmaturge and Arcanist guilds.
