Ylaine Marleigh is a Limsan hyur born to a dockworker and his pirate wife. After the death of both parents in an attack on the supposedly-safe town where they'd attempted to retire to raise her, the teenage survivor was taken to the pirates' base as a slave. She remained there for a number of years before her captors grew too bold in their operations around Limsa Lominsa and drew the attention of the Rogue's Guild. She was subsequently taken in by the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss, where she remained until she was old enough to eventually gain employment as a courtesan under Master Gegeruju's employ in Costa del Sol.
