Liliana Nazareth
(This is a work in progress. I'd appreciate it if you'd contact me in-game, should you have ideas, questions, or the like!)
A Gladiator with an odd lack of past, and all too good of timing in her appearance so shortly after the Calamity struck Eorzea. Still, despite the suspicious lack of memories, she tries her best to be a representative of all that is good in the world--a feat not so easily fulfilled, given the situation.

General
A woman with an interestingly clouded past, Liliana washed ashore the beaches of Aleport in the settling wake of the Calamity five years hence. With no recollection of her life previous to her discovery, and naught else hinting to her lineage aside from an odd signet ring adorning her right hand, Liliana's journey is one of recollection and hope. Aided by fellow adventurers Kairo Fujima and Thiji Higuri -- the only two who seemed to recognize her from her mysteriously forgotten past -- she strives on in hopes that she will one day remember everything.
Appearance
As if to add to her confidence issues, Liliana is taller than most Midlander women, and is as tall as a good majority of Midlander men! Adding to her height, Liliana possesses an impressively toned physique, which only serve to highlight the ample curves of her body--with such characteristics, it's no wonder that she feels like an amazon! However, the warrioress is incredibly feminine or at least strives to be in the areas of her hair and face, making sure that her lightly tanned skin in smooth and radiant, even while most of it is covered by heavy padding or armored plates, or laden robes and boots. Though her hair is an odd, almost unnaturally grey in color, by definition the color of her hair is 'wheat', a go-between of blonde and brunette, and is perfectly straightened and is trained to frame a decent amount of her face, erring towards the right side. Larger portions of what would be considered her bangs as well are pulled back across the curvature of her skull, ending in a twisted braid that merely ornaments the rest of her straightened, shoulder-length locks.
When one spots Liliana, it is almost always in some sort of armored plating or heavy robes, both of which seem meticulously cared for and detailed with scrutiny. The only time Liliana sheds these clothes is when she is frequenting a tavern in any of the major city-states, where she sloughs the mantle of duty and dresses only in her adventuring clothes, the barest she would allow herself to get in front of people before her inferiority complex hits her like a runaway Goobbue.
Behavior
Liliana has many facets to her personality, but as such, she almost always remains at her utmost best of behavior, treating everything that deserves it with respect and dignity. Sadly, however, this is very much overshadowed by a sense of distance between her and others, finding it troubling at the lack of relating she can do towards other's problems, yet Liliana always attempts to remain compassionate regardless.
Around her friends she is more comical, open and at ease; offering a smile to relax others or a quick, silver-tongued quip to throw someone else off guard. And while she doesn't mean it half the time, and even more so doesn't realize that she's doing it, there are a few occasions where she may mention something that is rather off the cuff and out of her comfort zone--yet soon after the words slip her mouth, she attempts to retract them in the hopes of saving face somehow.
In battle, however, is a different story. She is either silent to the point of being mistaken for a mute, or her loud mouth and boisterous taunts unsettle many around her. When in combat alongside her friends, however, she is quick to use her voice as a distraction towards enemies, drawing them away from the other participants so that they may perform their duties as she performs hers, usually as the role of the 'tank'. There are times when her emotional levels become unstable, however, and while the catalyst is usually outside of battle, it causes Liliana to throw herself at danger head-on, without stopping to think for the well-being of those around her.
Combat
General
Liliana's various fighting styles all share one trait: to her, a battle is a dance, and she leads her partner with her weapon. No matter if she's taking point as the main cover, or if she's behind the front lines as a healer, Liliana never strays from danger and meets challenges head-on with both grace and fury. Still, there are subtle differences to how she behaves during combative situations, depending upon her class of choice at the time a battle starts, as well as the factor of her either being alone or accompanied by others.
Gladiator
A sword and shield are Liliana's truest of friends and where she feels most at home. With the handiwork of a Gladiator fueling her muscles and fighting spirit, Liliana charges into battle unafraid, trusting those she accompanies with her life and knowing they do the same with her. As a Gladiator, she is a shining pinnacle of endurance and perseverance, going so far as to directly throw herself in an enemy's path to distract them away from another party member, be they ailing or not.
As a Gladiator, Liliana shows surprising leadership skills, as if she were a general leading her troops into battle. Always at the forefront of every team, she is quick to give rallying speeches to her awaiting allies and is always the first to take point from either up close with her sword, or from a distance with a lob of her shield. During battles, she is like a storm herself, furiously slashing and dancing away from enemies with quick footwork, despite the heavy armor she is forced to don.
Conjurer
Even when foregoing her sword for a staff or wand, Liliana retains the leader-like qualities found as a Gladiator, though her compassionate personality shines like a star. Ever the diligent one, her eyes are always on the lookout for a wound to mend or an ailment to salve, uncaring if they are simply a passerby or one of her friends. Though forced to remain on the back lines of battle, Liliana always makes sure that her allies know she is there, offering a shield of Protect or a quick Cure spell when necessary.
Still, healing with magic is not the only thing Liliana can do as a Conjurer. Taking her Weaving skills into mention, she uses her nimble fingers and handy needle to stitch up more grave wounds before administering heals, careful not to let anything scar if she can help it.
Marauder
As a Marauder, Liliana is more emotional than precise with the swings of her axe, almost in a completely emotionally berserk state as she chops through enemies. It is not a class she prefers to mention that she is handy with, however her friend Thiji though it to be necessary later on down the line, and so she decides to take on his advice and train in the ways of battle that most of her salty sea wolf friends are capable in...though, she'd much rather be even a Conjurer, in comparison to wielding a two-handed hatchet.
Tendencies
Likes
- Fruit tarts. She has a surprising obsession with them, to the point where it is surprising at how she keeps the weight off!
- Ul'dahn nights. Compared to the daytime in the desert, nightfall is always crisp and chilly, and the lighted backdrop of Hustings Strip reminds her of something out of a romance novel.
- Fighting with honor. Those who fight with dirty tricks disgust her, as she believes in a fair fight.
- Assisting others, even with the most menial of tasks. She especially tries to help Thiji and Kairo, as well as C'ulara, so that she may not feel like a burden to them.
- Friends. Even as an amnesiac, somewhere deep in her heart, Liliana feels as though she's always cherished the idea of friendship.
- Shipyards. She loves the history behind ships of all kinds, and it absolutely fascinates her to see what sort of strides in marine technology people have made over the years.
- Relaxing in the Quicksand. Or in general, relaxation. With her mind as pulled and fragmented as it is, it's always nice to enjoy a good cup of tea or ale while seated around a table with friends.
Dislikes
- Cravens. Cowardice is one of the utmost disgusting traits.
- Being in hot areas for too long, at least only during the daytime. In areas like Thanalan and the Sagolii Desert, she finds the nighttime rather agreeable.
- Being stuck for too long in the rain, while she's dressed in armor. It's more tolerable when she's dressed in her mere adventurer's clothes.
- The dreams and nightmares that plague her every sleeping moment. It's why she looks so disconcerted and disheveled in the mornings.
- Being teased for whatever reason, about certain traits of hers. While it's only playful teasing from her friends, the situations she gets put in does make her rather uncomfortable after a while.
Hobbies/Talents
- Seamstress: Liliana is a talented seamstress, even using her needlework as a form of first aid for others.
- Swordmaster: Liliana, despite her forgotten past, is no stranger to the sword--even as a weaker Gladiator than most, her feats of strength are rather surprising.
- Studious: Liliana loves to read, and is fascinated more about Eorzean history more than anything. She has been known to study every word about the Calamity--in hopes that it would shed some light on her past.
- Medic: While not as strong with the staff as she is with the sword, Liliana knows enough about white magic that she can at least assist her friends in battle, to an extent.
- "Hidden Talent": This is a talent/ability that will be revealed later on.
Other
- Liliana has an odd fixation on hair and eye colors that are out of the norm. It doesn't mean that she's necessarily attracted to the person themselves; Liliana would just simply stare and study to the point of being uncomfortable for the other person.
- She is almost constantly pining over, being angry at, or being generally concerned for Kairo's welfare. This stems from the fact that he was the first person to recognize her, and has told her all of what he knows about her past, at least where he was concerned. She doesn't know nor understand why she has some form of deep-seated feelings for him, and she doesn't try to make sense of it. Rather, she just goes along with it, and hopes that all will be meted out in due time.
- Her amnesia extends a lot farther than merely her life directly previous to being discovered in Eorzea. In fact, she's forgotten her life altogether, predating even her life in the 'mysterious world'.
- While she wears a lot of it, pink is actually not Liliana's favorite color. It is simply something about the color itself that calms her. In fact, her favorite color is silver.
Relationships
Paul Desmond: Paul acquired his own space on this page, and in Lily's heart. He is the one who brought her back to the path of light and the ways of the Paladin, when she thought she had lost it all in a fit of depression that made her turn towards other arts, other paths of knowledge that appeared easier and lazy. He had shown her a world that she never thought to exist--a world of utter passion, of encompassing love and undying devotion. Thanks to him, Lily now knows the feeling of being truly wanted; he has helped her open up to the world, and to others, and has given her a steeled resolve, and a reason to lift her sword and brandish her shield against evil. Paul is her betrothed, and the love of her life--even if what lies in her past is something that may contradict this engagement of two souls, Lily will never stray from Paul's side, come Hellfire or Garleans.
Family
Liliana is unsure of her family tree, due to the lack of knowledge of her past. However, she has come to know Brendt as family, a fatherly figure of sorts if ever there was one. He's been friendly enough to her, of course, especially with helping her journey to Ul'dah so that she may further train herself as a Gladiator, and she has vowed to somehow, some way, make it up to him.
She has had small jokes with Paul about what her parents must be or must have been like, but so far, she's no closer to the truth than she was when she began to ponder the idea of her family.
Friends
As Liliana has journeyed through Eorzea, she has had little time to make friends. As such, those that she does consider her friends are quite close to her heart.
C'ulara Yanto: Liliana's best friend in this life, though the two have been recently separated by ordeals of family and duty both. Liliana calls herself the self-proclaimed godmother of Ulara's unborn children; and is fiercely protective of the Miqo'te around others, excluding Ulara's mate, C'mahiin.
Thiji Higuri: A Dunesfolk Lalafell, and the second of two adventurers that recognize Liliana from what she dubs the 'Mystery of the Forgotten World'. She only ever has personal Linkshell conversations with him lately, as both are too involved with their own personal journeys to ever be able to meet up for more than a half-bell at a time.
Kairo Fujima: The first of the adventurers that recognized Liliana, he has been the most helpful in regards to trying to get her memory back. He was the first to train Lily in the ways of the Paladin, but due to his constant disappearances, she slowly began to stray from the path, having felt distracted and dismayed that she was not catching up fast enough in terms of strength. However, she finally caught up to him, and Kairo was more than willing to help her in her endeavor against the Garleans.
Sadly, after their fight with Ultima Weapon, Lily and Kairo were separated in the ensuing explosions. After recovering from a heavy panic attack with a relieving, yet brief transmission from the man, his last words to her were to 'become even stronger'. This has put Lily in a mindset of worry and dismay again, as she doesn't know exactly how to continue from here as a Paladin.

History/Timeline
The Beginning
Five years hence, after the Calamity had ravaged the land of Eorzea, Liliana washed ashore the isles of Limsa Lominsa's domain, just outside of Aleport. Somehow able to move by sheer force of will, she stumbled into the sailor's settlement with torn raiments resembling a Paladin's regalia, though missing her weaponry. Muttering something akin to the lines of "it's all gone..." she succumbed to her injuries and collapsed unconscious upon the docks. Unknown whether she was to live or die, the various citizens of Aleport helped nurse the ailing woman back to health with supplies bought or bartered from the traveling merchant known as Brendt. As payment, he told the people who lived on the settlement that he would make the woman work off what they owed, considering all of his supplies went towards stabilizing her condition.
Once she awoke, relief was quickly replaced by concern, as the woman could barely recount who she was, let alone anything else. Her torn raiments having been shred from her as she lay in her fevered sleep, she was now wearing simple seafarer garments, all but adding to her confusion. In her doddering absent-mindedness about anything nigh her own gender, she was given the temporary name "Stormrider" until she learned about herself during her time with Brendt.
She'd quickly taken a shine to Brendt and vice-versa, having taken a fatherly shine to the man and he, an evasively concerned approach to her. Still, he was thankful to have her about--she was stronger than she looked, and also handy in protecting his wares from the common tavern thug, as it appeared she knew her way around a sword. This simple way of life continued on for five years--Liliana, who'd finally learned her name but little else, helping Brendt out with his wares and he ever thankful for her dutiful handiwork.
During their travels, they saw all of what Eorzea had to offer beyond the bountiful seas of Limsa Lominsa--Liliana would bear witness to the haggard, harsh deserts surrounding Ul'dah, and the forests around Gridania of which many called their home. It was in the latter where she would meet with fellow adventurer Kairo Fujima, yet only briefly--still, in such a short time, he had greeted her as if she were a long lost friend or love, which served to only further confuse the amnesiac. After explaining her predicament, the man tried to explain as best he could the situation; on more than one occasion did he mention the term "Vana'diel", and would attempt to recount their adventurers together as best he could. Serving to only further aggravate and confuse poor Liliana, she would have to bid the man farewell and continue her journeys with Brendt. Still, she did not leave without at least a small parting gift--a personal linkshell, for which the two of them could speak through, and a small fluttering of her heartstrings.
After a rousing trip 'round the world, the two had returned to Limsa Lominsa--erstwhile, Brendt had noticed Liliana becoming more antsy, getting bitten by the wanderlust bug. With a smile, he presented to her two final parting gifts--a set of adventurer's clothes, and a final trip to Ul'dah, where he would then part ways with her, in hopes that she would further her swordplay, and becoming a woman of worthy mention in all tavern tales.
From Astral Sun to Umbral Moon
In her adventuring times 'round Ul'dah, Liliana did not learn much of her past save for being plagued by dreams and nightmares alike, all with faces and names long-forgotten and breath-taking events that spurned the woman from sleep. As such, she was unable to train as well as she'd have liked in the ways of the Gladiator, aimlessly wandering the Sagolii Desert's outskirts in search for the answers to her bottomless questions.
It wasn't until she had a chance encounter with a Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te named C'ulara, who was nursing a hangover in the Quicksand, that she truly decided to take her training seriously. Seeing the woman's fiery disposition on and off the field of battle engaged Liliana to better herself, and she began to copy the brash and boastful spunk when fighting, going so far as to lavish war cries and gaily laughter as she swung her sword and cut through foes. This rather brash streak did not last for long, however--as soon as she was plagued by more intense lengths of dreams, she all but gave up on fighting for a time, finding herself too exhausted to lift her sword.
In exchange for mercenary work, she found herself adept with a needle and thread; for a while, she would trade in the sword and shield for an embroidery circle and spinning wheel, finding the work of a Weaver much more calming and relaxing than the constant adrenalin rush that the battles of a Gladiator could bring.
