Personality
Personality
- Arc likes to come off as outgoing, friendly, charismatic and happy-go-lucky; what more would you expect from a bartender at the Wench!? It’s this persona that he most often slips into when meeting new people, partying or hanging out with groups. Get him alone, though, and you’ll quickly realise how fragile that persona is.
- Arc is a deeply thoughtful and introverted individual in truth, often to the point of cynicism. Years of travelling and trading in gossip as much as in drink have taught him many things about the darkest natures of Eorzean society. Because of this, he often expects the worst when encountering new people in precarious situations, and takes very slowly to anything resembling a genuine friendship.
- It is simultaneously these experiences that distance Arc from many people that attract him to his passion for helping those in need. From the vagrants of Ul’Dahn backstreets, to the inhabitants of Little Ala Mhigo and the alienated beastmen, Arc hesitates little to risk his status and good standing for those less fortunate than himself. This passion led Arc to co-found the Guiding Stars free company with his brother Alus, an honour he takes very seriously.
- In fact, Arc’s chance opportunity to reunite with Alus was the very inspiration he needed to snap out of the monotonous performance of “life” he had subjected himself to up until that point. Whist he relentlessly teased his brother Alus for his bookwormish habits, when Arc discovered the source of this reading material, he secretly pored over it with an intense interest. Of course, Arc was heavily critical of Alus’ trusting and optimistic personality, and attempted at all times to distance himself from these attributes. However, he has come to find his brother to be a deeply empowering presence in his life. Whilst he won’t always admit it, Arc hates being separated from Alus for too long. In a way, this familial presence has acted as a kind of solvent for Arc’s heavily-concealed fear of romantic attachment. Whilst he’ll flirt his tail off with strangers at a party, he’ll very rarely talk about love and despises any more-than-fleeting conversation about romance.
- In spite of his newfound passion for adventure, Arc will often go on hiatus for long periods, retiring to his home in Limsa Lominsa or even taking up temporary residence at an inn elsewhere. During these periods, Arc tends to focus on blacksmithing, a hobby with which he has become fascinated, and his love of Triple Triad. He is employed as a weapons artisan by the merchant prince Kestle Roet, whom he considers both a patron and a kind of mentor. “Lord” Roet will often indirectly point Arc towards new opportunities, ventures and intriguing information. Kestle is one of the few people Arc feels as though he can have frank political conversations with; although he is wary of his patron’s mysterious networks of knowledge.
- As you might expect from someone so well-versed in rumour and gossip, Arc is profoundly political. Whilst he has previously spoken at length on his views, he prefers to keep them to himself as he is well aware they would be damaging to not only his own standing, but also that of his brother. Arc is increasingly distrustful of the power-grabbing tactics of the Grand Companies in the anarchic vacuum created by the Calamity. Arc knows he is by no means innocent in the militarisation of Eorzean society, being a celebrated soldier of the Maelstrom himself; he acknowledges the deep threat posed by the technocratic religiosity of the Empire, yet he concurrently bemoans the systematic discrimination and isolation of beast tribes perpetuated by the Grand Companies, as well as their increasingly centralised grip on economic, military and political power. As a result, Arc justifies his involvement with the Maelstrom as purely for the fulfilment of his personal moral obligations to defend society from the greater evil of the Empire. Therefore, he holds little regard for laws or orders unless he deems them right by his own standards.
Religious Beliefs
- Alus is a believer in the Twelve. Like his brother, Arc is a devout follower of Nald and Thal, the Traders. Several times throughout his life, Arc has spent hours in prayer to Nald’thal, seeking his guidance and balance.
- Arc has sometimes struggled with this faith, especially due to his fascination with the mythology and religions of other cultures. He has sometimes found it hard to reconcile his faith in the Twelve with the passionate devotion he has witnessed members of other faiths portray, and with the devestation of the Calamity and onslaught of the Imperial invasion. On such occasions, he has always resolved to take a pilgrimage to the Church of Saint Adama Landama, his adopted birthplace, where he has re-dedicated himself to the Twelve and to Nald’thal in particular.
- Arc has made many pilgrimages alongside his brother, Alus, whom he considers to be sometimes too fanatical in his worship of Nald’thal at the expanse of the rest of the deities. Still, he appreciates the opportunity to pray at important sites and to learn from the vast knowledge held by Alus about their patron deity.
Battle Tendency
- Arc’s foray into adventuring began with the spontaneous theft of a sleeping patron’s axe at the Wench (but don’t talk to Alus about it, please, he will cry). His first experiences in battle were thus painful and scar-inducing, but nevertheless exhilarating and empowering. As his travels expanded, he began visiting the different guilds across Eorzea, interested in learning the history of the weapons he would come to craft as a smithy.
- Travelling to Gridania, he was forced to spend a long time with the Lancers’ and Carpentry Guilds, as he quickly discovered the core of the lance and bow lay more in the woodwork than in the smithing end of the design. It was during this time that he fell in love with the
Guildmasterlance, and while practising with his own creations, grew to adore its many diverse fighting styles. After rising through the ranks of the Guild, Arc was eventually entrusted as an envoy to aid in an Ishgardian investigation, during which time he became an apprentice to the former Azure Dragoon. Enticed by the possibility of one day travelling to Ishgard and accessing the wealth of history and culture within its walls, Arc dedicated himself to training as a rogue dragoon so that he may one day be granted such a rare opportunity.
- As a smithy, carpenter and leatherworker, Arc has taken it upon himself to train under every possible weapon and fighting style to a certain degree. He has recently taken up archery as a form of sport, and has even grown adept with fighting daggers for some reason.

Commonly Known History
Childhood
Arc and Alus were constantly accompanied by their adopted father, the travelling merchant Gwenneg Beauregard. Although, in his teenage years, Arc felt as though Gwenneg suppressed the twins’ true heritage from them, as well as the true nature of Eorzean society, in recent years he has come to reconcile those gripes with the many teachings Gwenneg bestowed upon his children. In particular, Arc’s passion for helping the unfortunate, lack of tolerance for racism or discrimination of any kind and love of good quality craftsmanship are all either directly or indirectly attributable to his upbringing under Gwenneg.
Teenage Years
After the disappearance of Gwenneg in the aftermath of the Calamity, Arc and Alus effectively disappeared along with him. It’s not known what happened to the brothers between then and the present time, except that eventually they separated and weren’t reconciled for many years thereafter. Travelling merchants acquainted with Gwenneg swore they saw Arc with another young Miqo’te voyaging across Thanalan shortly after the brothers separated, but where they were going was unclear.
Present Time
Arc has made a name for himself around Limsa Lominsa as a celebrated bartender at the Wench and a part-time weapons artisan for the merchant prince Kestle Roet. Arc and Alus reunited by chance about one year ago, after which time a light seemed to spark within Arc that none had seen since he first arrived in Limsa. The brothers are very often seen adventuring together or undertaking missions for the Maelstrom or under the banner of their own free company, the Guiding Stars. Arc is a renowned gambler, and will happily take anyone on in a game of Triple Triad or competitive Cactpot at the Golden Saucer.

Trivia
- ■ Alus and Arc's names come from the Final Fantasy III remake. Alus Restor, prince of Saronia, and Arc, one of the four Light Warriors, were considered to be close friends in the game.
- ■ The players behind Alus and Arc are not blood related 'in real life', in fact they've never physically met.
- ■ Although the characters of Alus and Arc Beauregard were created recently in 2.0, the players behind the characters have been playing Final Fantasy XIV on and off since 2010. Before that, they had been playing Final Fantasy XI on and off since roughly 2004, of which they first met in back in 2007. They were notoriously casual players, however, and never got far in the actual story quests of either games.

Most of this combination was by Xavarian Mystrife,
who used some of Bancroft Gairn's code with the tables
and Unnamed Mercenary's code for the tabs (which seemed to have broke, whoops!)

And further heavily modified by DodoKing!
Thanks to all the above for making it easier for me to get involved!
