A P P E A R A N C E

Standing nearly 6 fulms tall, Alex can be a little intimidating. She regularly trains to keep her athletic build, has two prominent scars (one across her right eye, the other on her stomach) and has shades of blue mixed into her hair thanks to an experiment gone sideways.

H I S T O R Y

Alex was born to Bianca and Conrad "Kurt" Sauveterre, a scholar couple from Sharlayan. The family traveled all around the world thanks to the couple's studies into unusual aetherial phenomena. After Alex 's 8th name day, her parents tracked one of these phenomena to an island in the northern Rhotano Sea. The family set up their Research Camp and began their studies of the strange aether flows of the area. During a visit to Limsa Lominsa, the family met Captain Geoffroy LeClair, owner of the cargo ship Dawnchaser. He sailed with his family aboard the ship with his wife, Remy, serving as the ship's navigator. Their daughters, Sophie and Zoe, became fast friends with Alex. The LeClair's would become their regular suppliers making the trek to the island once a moon. This agreement would continue for 40 moons.

A few moons after her 13th name day, soldiers from the Garlean Empire arrived at the island. They too had come to study the strange phenomena. While the Sauveterre's motives were academic, the Garleans were attempting to weaponize the phenomena. He mother hide away their most important research to prevent its theft at the hands of the soldiers. Once the soldiers discovered them, they demanded the family hand over their research. The family refused not wanting to give the soldiers something that could be used to harm people. Frustrated, the commander ordered his men to execute the family and take everything at the camp.

Alex survived the attack with a sword wound to the gut and a slash to the face. She kept herself from succumbing to her woulds thanks to what little healing magic she knew. It was 8 suns before help arrived for the orphaned girl. The Dawnchaser arrived to make its regular supply drop and found the horrifying scene. The LeClair's took Alex back to port where she recovered from her injuries. The LeClair's adopted Alex and gave her a home upon the Dawnchaser. Over the years aboard the ship, she learned various hand to hand combat techniques from the crew. She learned how to use firearms from the chief gunner and this started a life long passion. She took up studying alchemy to make black powder and blacksmithing to create her own set of knives and a rifle. Any extra gil she earned went toward books.

At the age of 19, the Dawnchaser ran into a Garlean ship and fled into a massive storm out at sea. Whether it was the storm or the persistent attacks from the Garlean ship, the Dawnchaser sank. Alex, Sophie, Zoe, and a half dozen crew members survived but Geoffroy and Remy were not as lucky. Alex joined the Maelstrom a few moons later to help support her adopted sisters. She saw this as an opportunity to finally get revenge on the deaths of her two families on the Garleans. Her adopted sisters would follow suite and join up as well.

The sisters were all present at the Battle of Carteneau. On the final day of the descent of the lesser moon of Dalamud, the sisters were in the thick of the fighting. Alex tried to get her sisters to retreat but communications were down. The might of the elder primal took the last of her family from her on that day. On that day she became known as cursed by the surviving members of her unit. This nickname caused few people to want to work with her as they were afraid that her 'curse' would kill them. She felt ostracized and left the Maelstrom after she recovered. Not knowing what to do and wishing she had died in the battle she returned to the sea.

During this time she earned her nickname of the 'Black Coeurl' since those who crossed her met with an ill fate. After a year of going from whatever job paid the most to the next, Alex had a dream about her mother. She felt as though she finally needed closure for the death of her parents and booked passage for the island. She visited the simple graves of her parents and stayed on the island. One drunken night she roamed the island for the best place to view the starry night sky from. During this she stumbled upon a hidden cache of journals and research from her parents. Included among them was a letter from her father. The letter told her the journals were important and she had to keep them from falling into the wrong hands. Curiosity took hold of her and she opened the journals, what could be so important? Why would they give their lives to protect this? Why did they leave her alone?

None of the answers would come to her, the journals were in some strange script that made little or no sense to her. Encrypted. She needed to know what was in these journals. A fire was lit within her that day, new life. She returned to Limsa and opened up a small shop that specialized in selling black powders. She purchased her own ship, a Cutter named the Pelican's Wing, to help make speedy deliveries. She took on two apprentices, Vatra and Berg, to help her with the business and funnel much of her personal profits into trying to break the codes.

She can often be found at her shop, in libraries, or at her personal home in Costa del Sol.

L I K E S ■ Firearms and Explosives. After she was first introduced to firearms by the crew of the Dawnchaser, she has had a love affair with them and explosives. ■ Chocobos. She absolutely loves her pet chocobo Soko with all her heart and just really likes chocobos in general. ■ Music. While not professionally trained, when you spend an extended period of time on a ship with sailors you become intimately familiar with Sea Shanties. She can often be found singing to herself. ■ Technology. She absolutely loves seeing, experiencing, and reading about the latest technology from around the world. ■ Airships. See above. She loves airships and hopes to one day have her own. ■ Reading. She loves books and technical manuals, she's got a small library back at her home. ■ Traveling. Alex has a bit of the ol' wanderlust which is one of several reasons she asked to be moved to the Maelstrom Reserves so she could travel the world a bit more freely.

D I S L I K E S ■ The Garlean Empire. With them responsible for the death of both her birth and adopted families she straight up hates them ■ Bitter Foods. She can handle a bitter drink but she really dislikes bitter foods. ■ Salamanders. They give her the willies. ■ Cold Weather.
