A P P E A R A N C E

Standing nearly 6 fulms tall, Alex can be a little intimidating. She regularly trains to keep her athletic build, has two prominent scars (one across her right eye, the other on her stomach) and has shades of blue mixed into her hair thanks to an experiment gone sideways.

H I S T O R Y

Alex was born to the scholarly Sharlayan couple Bianca and Conrad "Kurt" Sauveterre on the 11th Sun of the 2nd Astra Moon. Her parent's main focus of expertise was 'Unusual Aetherial Phenomena' and as early as age 5, they were teaching Alex everything they knew on the subject. Not that she really understood them. Around the age of 8 was when her mother's calculations predicted that there would be a large aetherial disturbance in the northern Rhotano Sea. The family gathered everything they needed and made for the approximate area of the calculations which luckily had a small deserted island nearby. The family set up their Research Camp and her parents began their studies of the strange aether flows of the area. Sometime later, Alex had her first visit to Eorzea when she came with them to replenish their supplies in Limsa Lominsa. It was during this trip the family first met Geoffroy LeClair the captain of a supply and cargo ship named the Dawnchaser.

Captain LeClair sailed with his family aboard the ship with his wife, Remy, serving as the ship's navigator. They also had two daughters, Sophie and Zoe, who were a little younger than Alex but the three girls soon became fast friends. The LeClair's would become their regular suppliers making the trek to the island once a moon. In addition to payment for the supply runs the Sauveterre's also educated Sophie and Zoe while they visited. This would continue for nearly 40 moons.

A few moons after her 13th nameday strange men showed up on the island the Research camp was on, these men were agents of the Garlean Empire. They had come to study the strange aetherial disturbances to see if they could potentially harness them as a weapon, when they discovered the camp they captured the Sauveterre family and took all of their research. The soldiers however found that the two scholars had coded their journals and notes preventing anyone from knowing what was actually written. They demanded the Sauveterre's hand over the cipher but they refused. The soldiers grabbed Alex and tried to use her as leverage but Alex broke free of the soldier's grip and tried to make a run for it only to be slashed across the face with a sword. Her parents then handed over the cipher after the Garleans promised to heal their daughter, instead the Garlean Commander ordered his men to execute the family.

Alex managed to survive the slash to the face and a sword to the gut thanks to a minor amount of healing magic she had been learning. She was on the ground for nearly 8 suns before help arrived in the form of the Dawnchaser making it's regular supply drop. The LeClair's took care of her the best they could and set back to port in Limsa Lominsa where Alex spent the next 6 moons recovering.

The LeClair's adopted Alex into their family after she recovered and she began traveling with them on their various jobs. Alex at one point made her way back to the island to give a proper farewell to her parents and while there she discovered several of their journals that the Garlean soldiers had not taken. Along with these journals was a letter from her father stating that if anything ever happened to them, Alex was to keep these journals safe. The journals were of course encoded but she was determined to find a way to break the code and find out what was so important. In the years to follow she taught herself some magic, though she learned she was not very adept in it, she learned hand to hand combat and knife fighting from the crew of the Dawnchaser, learned to use firearms, and took up Blacksmithing and Alchemy as hobbies. Any extra money she would be given went to the purchase of books.

At the age of 19, the Dawnchaser ran into a Garlean ship and was forced to flee into storm. Between the damage to the ship from the Garlean ship and the rough waters of the storm, the she was destroyed leaving only a few to survive including Alex, Sophie, and Zoe with Captain LeClair and his wife being among the casualties. A few moons after this Alex was given the option to join the Maelstrom which to quickly accepted as both a means to support his adopted sisters and as a way to possibly hunt down any and all Garlean soldiers. Her adopted sisters would eventually follow suite and join up as well.

All three of the sisters were at the Battle of Carteneau however, after the Calamity, Alex was the only one of them still alive. With all the seemingly bad luck around her what with having two families die, she earned the nicknames 'the Cursed' and the 'Black Cat'. In the time since the Calamity, she has stayed with the Maelstrom though she is currently on reserved status and thus not an active member. She currently resides in Costa Del Sol where she continues her studies, her research, and uses the proximity to Castrum Occidens to study the Garleans.

L I K E S ■ Firearms and Explosives. After she was first introduced to firearms by the crew of the Dawnchaser, she has had a love affair with them and explosives. ■ Chocobos. She absolutely loves her pet chocobo Soko with all her heart and just really likes chocobos in general. ■ Music. While not professionally trained, when you spend an extended period of time on a ship with sailors you become intimately familiar with Sea Shanties. She can often be found singing to herself. ■ Technology. She absolutely loves seeing, experiencing, and reading about the latest technology from around the world. ■ Airships. See above. She loves airships and hopes to one day have her own.

D I S L I K E S ■ The Garlean Empire. With them responsible for the death of both her birth and adopted families she straight up hates them ■ Bitter Foods. She can handle a bitter drink but she really dislikes bitter foods. ■ Salamanders. They give her the willies. ■ Cold Weather. She's lived in and around Limsa Lominsa for too long and hates cold weather.
