The days following Sara's death were a whirlwind of questions and suspicions, and it was only through the Garlean's corroboration of Dylan's account that spared Dylan from being accused as a co-conspirator. Still, there were worse problems than the death of a single conjurer; a member of the Eorzean Alliance had tortured a prisoner, and any goodwill the Alliance hoped to gain from the Empire was no more. The hospital was disbanded, and all of the Garleans were returned to the Empire except for Sara's victim, whom was accompanied by Dylan back to Gridania for treatment and evaluation to ensure the Garlean posed no threat to the populace. For a time, Dylan remained with the Guild, but the questioning glances and hushed whispers of his guildmates wondering if Dylan truly knew what Sara was doing became too much. Again, he felt as if he had no home, and so he left Gridania to continue honing his craft in the arid lands of Thanalan. − | Not even a week after Dylan arrived did he miss the fellowship he felt in Gridania. For all of its majesty and splendor, Ul'dah had a dark underbelly which preyed on the poor, the lonely, and the helpless. As much as it disgusted him, it also steeled his resolve to stay and make a new life. With the money he had to his name, he invested in a small shack which he turned into a pharmacy, and began to sell medicines, potions, and the like to fund what was his true work: tending to the city's destitute and forgotten. For months he sold his wares and treated patients, making friends with the customers and owners of nearby businesses, particularly a bookstore which housed a small cafe. It was here that he met his first true friend, Azrian Thorne, a fellow physician who operated clinics both in Ul'dah and Ishgard. Through Azrian's practice, Dylan had many an opportunity to see how doctors who focus on science over magic practiced their craft, and in turn began to learn a few things as well. As he expanded his knowledge of non-mystical treatments, his understanding and appreciation for all healing arts deepened.<br> | + | Not even a week after Dylan arrived did he miss the fellowship he felt in Gridania. + | Some time later, the neighborhood bookstore was closed down and Dylan's circle of friends dispersed. Feeling a bit out of place alone in the old neighborhood, he began seeking out other, larger opportunities to help people and expand his knowledge. In this search he found a large free company the next ward over: Equinox, a magitek and biotech organization trying to keep pace with the Garleans' own scientific leaps. Dylan found a unique place there, bringing with him insight into aetherial, natural, and holistic medical techniques. In turn, he became more familiar and comfortable with complex surgical techniques, magitek prosthetics, and other technological advancements. For a time, Dylan lost himself in research, the fringes of medical science seductive and his thirst for knowledge near-unquenchable. but after a | ||

[edit]
Dylan stands fairly tall for a Midlander male, reaching a lean six feet tall. He carries himself in a more relaxed manner in most situations, leaning or slouching against any nearby surface that will support him. His hair, a vibrant red, is usually pulled back into a ponytail for the sake of keeping it out of his eyes, caring little for how messy it may look. His face is diamond-shaped with a slightly crooked nose and thin lips. His eyes are almond-shaped and a vibrant green with thin, dark red eyebrows. Each of his ears carries a multitude of helix piercings, and he regularly paints his face with symbols and markings passed down by his tribe. Dylan also has tattoo sleeves which extend from the elbows to his wrists. He has a lean, toned frame, suggesting a routine of moderate fitness. Dylan is quick to put on a smile or fill a room with laughter; he typically wears clothing unique to his tribe, though he will dress up more formally or professionally when necessary.
Aspects That Stand Out:
CHILDHOOD Dylan was born into a nomadic tribe of Midlanders who called the deep woods of the Shroud their home. Like the other children, Dylan was raised to hold absolute respect for nature and the preservation of life, adopting the practice of veganism and shunning the practice of magic for the burden it placed on the land. One day, Dylan and his brother wandered away from the camp to play in a nearby river and were set upon by a pair of river yarzon. Though they managed to escape, Dylan was bitten and soon succumbed to the yarzon's poison. Certain that Dylan would die, the elders of his tribe made him comfortable as he started to pass. It was the middle of the night when Dylan's body began to glow, alight with borrowed aether as his body cleansed itself of the poison; a sign that Dylan had now awoken to his talent with the healing arts. Abhorred by Dylan's recovery, he was cast out of the tribe and forced to wander the forests alone. He lived this way for two years, until a Wood Wailer scouting party discovered him at the tender age of 13 and brought him into Gridania proper. It wasn't long before Dylan's talent for healing was noticed, and he was taken in by the Conjurer's Guild.
EQUINOX
Although he spent the first 13 years of his life isolated Eorzean society as a whole, Dylan has adapted and integrated quite well. He's developed a sarcastic sense of humor and a biting wit, but still holds true to the moral compass gifted to him by his tribe, and later fine-tuned by the Conjurer's Guild. Dylan is not a perfect pacifist by nature, as he understands that one must occasionally defend themselves with force to protect life.
Dylan was raised to follow a vegan lifestyle, but over time has moved away from this practice. He now enjoys an omnivorous diet, though he still favors vegetables both out of habit and a slight sense of guilt over eating meat.
