Despite the marriage an arranged affair, both parties developed a fondness for each other; Feryal believed that Aulaux had no great love for the war. Duty called and he was eager to prove his prowess in the battlefield. "He died honorably for Ishgard," she was told, but it was cold comfort for something that left her a widow before her 21st birthday and her child fatherless. It was a blow to the Elezen and - in her grief - she felt like she was left with a household she was ill-equipped to care for. On a particular bitter winter, however, a Raen ended up half frozen on her doorstep.
