Galen Aubrey

Character
General
Recently, the sage has gained some reputation after his sudden interruption and rallying stance at the recent gathering of free companies. Otherwise, he continues his world-spanning voyages of discovery and delves into the deepest, ancient ruins to unearth secrets. As a new member of the Phoenix Down conclave of mages, Galen strives to immerse himself in the aetherical and lend his knowledge to the betterment of all. This doesn't just encompass mages, but all the peoples of the world.
Update! 4/30/2014 - Galen is now the proud co-owner of Floating Leaves, a teahouse and medical clinic in Mist, Ward 4. Though the blackguard has disbanded for the time being, Galen and Framboise Zakuro have built Floating Leaves as a place for anyone to come seeking aid and relaxation.
Appearance
Most obviously, his hair stands out as a recognizable feature. Despite constant travel, Galen attempts to maintain his facial hair into a trimmed goatee and moustache with smooth cheeks and long sideburns. He keeps his hair at nearly shoulder length and rarely ties it back unless toiling in a forge. Though his clothing may change, he's very rarely seen without his glasses on. Tall, trim, and muscular, Galen belies his physical strength with travelers gear rather than armor unless necessary.
Personality
Galen is kind, but distant. In most social situations, he's personable without being open. He will rarely talk about himself. He smiles easily and laughs readily, but his rust brown eyes are often haunted and he avoids discussion about it.
Combat
General
Though powerful, Galen seems to always want to settle matters of confrontation with words. Social solutions will ever trump battle to Galen, but that does not mean he is a pushover. With an impressive arsenal of diverse magical abilities at his fingertips, the sage can settle a matter with a well-placed fireball just as easily as one could talk it out. The point is that talking hurts everyone involved far less.
Tendencies
Eloquent and chatty, he says A LOT without ever talking about himself in any capacity that involves depth past the present. He's quick with a well-placed compliment and kind word, while his condemning glares are powerful, but rare.
Most often, anyone can find Galen travelling or working on the Floating Leaves teahouse. He's also fond of writing and drawing.

Rumours
"Blue hair? Glasses? Quiet feller? Came round here when the redbellies tried t'torch my farm, drove'm off my land. E's a twelvesent, that one. Only asked for a loaf of bread fer his trouble and went on his way. Headed down the road toward Quarrymill." - Elderly Farmer
"Aye, I sawr'im down there by the Aetheryte, waterin' his Couerl. Kept to himself. Was just sittin' there by the creek, readin' some scroll wit' strange markings on it. Ain't no language I ever seen, gave me the chocobo-bumps jus' lookin' at it. He caught me starin', gave me a shrewd look so I moved on. Think he left camp three nights ago." - Little Ala Mihgo Guard
"He -quit-. That's what he did. Pulled his brother from under the headman's axe and turned in his emblem. The Commander was madder than a bull with a Shroudthorn in it's side. Ain't seen him since, was about six....seven years ago? Yeah. Anyroad, I hear he was a devil with a sword n' board. Rising Star and all that. Seems t'me that star done winked out, huh?" - Boreus Farln, Sultansworn
"It was horrible. Goblins raided our village, stole food and clothes, anything they could get their grubby little hands on. One bombed Old Arrold's home and the traveler just....snapped. He rode after'm in a fury and the forest lit up like the sun had risen early. He came back with some of our food and clothing, wearin' a white mask on his face. Had some blue gem on the forehead-like and he was cold, sad nothing to no one. Just dropped the recovered goods and rode on. Creepiest thing I ever did see, seemed like such a sweet sort till then." - Horrified Villager
Friends, Interests, and Allies
Olyver Hyral > There is something about Olyver Hyral, despite the man's lone-wolf mannerisms and militant tendencies. Galen doesn't quite know what draws him to the man, only that the two share a core belief about the world and their positions in it and that creates a bond not easily broken. Purpose.
Kalen Cook > Galen is quite fond of Kalen Cook, the co-founder of the Phoenix Downs. Kalen's brilliance is tempered by his quirky humility, but never dulled by it. As a scholar, the two men with similar names became instant colleagues which sometimes transcends friendship.
Framboise Zakuro > Quite simply put, Framboise is Galen's constant companion and muse. The two share treasure hunts and meals, conversations and studies. If there was one person in the world that -knew- Galen, it would be Fram. Recently, the two have become involved as well as co-owning Floating Leaves.
Saachi Medvyed > Jubilant. That alone makes Saachi a good friend. Though Galen only recently introduced himself to Saachi, he has been sending her anonymous letters for some time now. The two have bonded over a mutual appreciation for the written and spoken word, among other things, and that bond seems to be forming one deep friendship.
The Drifters
Many members of Driftwood Coast Galen calls friend, despite personal differences.
