Galen Aubrey

Character
General
There's something wrong with Galen Aubrey. It could be the way he's beginning to mutter to himself when he's thinking or a particular look in his eyes, but one thing is very certain, there's something wrong with him. On the whole, he's rational and well-spoken. He displays an intellect of admirable depth and a keen mind, but every now and then that glint of madness appears and dirties an otherwise beautiful sight.
Recently, his melancholy has begun to border on anger and he's been spotted accusing merchants and random citizenry of being impostors or "fake" altogether. While still sporadic, it's done little to ingratiate him with those people. They're calling him "mad", but for now it's only a rumor and nothing more.
As for most days, the sage has returned to the ancient art of wandering and always seems to be searching for something in the dust and detritus of old ruins and devastated lands of legend. He pursues tales of Allagan devices and ancient stashes of forgotten lore with equal fervor and when one crosses paths with the red-coated young man, he's cheerful and downright friendly....if a bit eccentric.
Appearance
Most obviously, his hair stands out as a recognizable feature. It's grown long and his face has taken on some stubble due to constant travel, but he is never unkempt. Tall, trim, and muscular, Galen belies his physical strength with his trademarked red robe rather than armor unless necessary.
Personality
Galen is kind, but distant. In most social situations, he's personable without being open. He will rarely talk about himself. He smiles easily and laughs readily, but his rust brown eyes are often haunted and he avoids discussion about it.
Combat
General
Though powerful, Galen seems to always want to settle matters of confrontation with words. Social solutions will ever trump battle to Galen, but that does not mean he is a pushover. With an impressive arsenal of diverse magical abilities at his fingertips, the sage can settle a matter with a well-placed fireball just as easily as one could talk it out. The point is that talking hurts everyone involved far less.
Tendencies
Eloquent and chatty, he says A LOT without ever talking about himself in any capacity that involves depth past the present. He's quick with a well-placed compliment and kind word, while his condemning glares are powerful, but rare.

Rumours
"Blue hair? Glasses? Quiet feller? Came round here when the redbellies tried t'torch my farm, drove'm off my land. E's a twelvesent, that one. Only asked for a loaf of bread fer his trouble and went on his way. Headed down the road toward Quarrymill." - Elderly Farmer
"Aye, I sawr'im down there by the Aetheryte, waterin' his Couerl. Kept to himself. Was just sittin' there by the creek, readin' some scroll wit' strange markings on it. Ain't no language I ever seen, gave me the chocobo-bumps jus' lookin' at it. He caught me starin', gave me a shrewd look so I moved on. Think he left camp three nights ago." - Little Ala Mihgo Guard
"He -quit-. That's what he did. Pulled his brother from under the headman's axe and turned in his emblem. The Commander was madder than a bull with a Shroudthorn in it's side. Ain't seen him since, was about six....seven years ago? Yeah. Anyroad, I hear he was a devil with a sword n' board. Rising Star and all that. Seems t'me that star done winked out, huh?" - Boreus Farln, Sultansworn
"It was horrible. Goblins raided our village, stole food and clothes, anything they could get their grubby little hands on. One bombed Old Arrold's home and the traveler just....snapped. He rode after'm in a fury and the forest lit up like the sun had risen early. He came back with some of our food and clothing, wearin' a white mask on his face. Had some blue gem on the forehead-like and he was cold, sad nothing to no one. Just dropped the recovered goods and rode on. Creepiest thing I ever did see, seemed like such a sweet sort till then." - Horrified Villager
Friends, Interests, and Allies
Framboise Zakuro > Quite simply put, Framboise is Galen's constant companion and muse. The two share treasure hunts and meals, conversations and studies. If there was one person in the world that -knew- Galen, it would be Fram. Recently, the two have become involved as well as co-owning Floating Leaves.
Desmond Aryll > Lord Aryll and Galen have a strange relationship born of mutual respect and an odd understanding of their inherent nobility. They often see things in the same manner, which has made them an odd form of friends that Galen doesn't truly understand...but appreciates greatly.
Recently, with the disbanding of Driftwood Coast, Galen has become something of an island. While he's ever sociable and generally polite, the sage has begun to eschew personal attachments to people. Aside from Framboise and to a lesser extent, Desmond Aryll, Galen's become isolated to protect his heart.
