INTRO TEXT

Appearance

He started off looking like any other Elezen but after he was forced into the study of Aetheryte before the calamity his body started to change. No longer would his muscles grow past that of an average male. His hair slowly grew longer over the passing years. After experimenting with aether he would develop scars. His left eye would become a yellowish color. The scars on his face would soon change to the same yellowish color as his eye. He is typically found wearing his favorite red and black attire though recently he has taken to wearing metallic gloves and boots.

History

Garyen grew up in the Coerthas Highlands with the rest of the Ishgardian Elezen. His ability to manipulate aether came at a very early age which forced his family to give him over to the local magic academy. Garyen was only 14 years of age when the Calamity happened. Though he was still young Garyen could feel the power of the elder primal Bahamut as he broke free of his imprisonment causing Garyen to seek out refuge so he could survive what he knew was coming. Almost twenty years had passed before Garyen would embark on his journey into the world.

He first would stop at Limsa Lominsa to meet with the local Arcanists. He would spend a full year learning the various ways they would use to summon creatures to do their bidding. Next Garyen traveled to the newly rebuilt Gridania. It was hear Garyen fell in love for the first time in his life with a young miqo'te girl. He never left her side as they ventured through the woods. It wasn't until a "Nunh" from his lovers former tribe came calling that Garyen would finally learn what it was like to feel hatred and anger towards another race. He didn't understand the bound people would have in a tribe and he probably never will. His sense of loyalty to a single individual was far more important to him than the loyalty of a single person to a large group of people. His lover was basically given a choice. Either come back and take her rightful place in the tribe or fight the Nunh with the possibility of death so that she might go free. His lover being ever so stubborn decided to fight the male and lost. After the fight Garyen held his lover in his arms and carried back to their home in the Lavender Beds. She told him to be strong and that some day they would be together again. Garyen knew she was trying to comfort him but all it did was make his anger grow.

Once his lover had passed Garyen took only but his staff and a couple books and set out to travel to the Sagolii desert to find the male that had taken away the only thing he cared for. Once he found the male his mind twisted in such a way that not only would he set out to kill this male but he would also take away everything he had including his entire tribe. Beset by a rage most people have never seen Garyen began casting the darkest magic he had known. The sky turned as black as night and Garyen's eyes would glow a deep red. After hours of constant casting Garyen would fall victim to his own rage and fall to the sands. Garyen would wake a day later to find himself in a small cave just north of the Forgotten Springs village. A small note and satchel lay next to him. The note reading "Come to Ul'dah if you wish to learn more of the dark ways.". So Garyen set out to the desert city of Ul'dah and joined the order of the Blackmage.

Personality

Deep down Garyen only wants two things in life. Power beyond his wildest imagination in the dark arts and the love of a woman. After watching his former lover die in his arms the quest for gaining power has twisted his soul and morals to the point he tends to see females as just a physical object and not something he could care for again. Every time he's found himself getting close to someone he does his best to push them away. It has often cost him great friends as well as potential lovers.
