History

The Past

She almost didn't live to see her naming ceremony when she was stung by a poisonous creature in the night. She was barely able to eat and was drained of energy with each day until it looked like she was past hope. Maybe it was the medicine or prayers, but she finally stabilized and was able to recover enough over the next year until hew name could be spoken to Azeyma. The tribe was assured that little K'latolo Bashir would see many more years, but anything could happen to see her ashes mingling with the sand.

Severe sickness only a couple years earlier was no excuse for K'latolo to miss out on learning how to hunt. She kept up with the other children and the hunting party but was happier than the rest when it was time to sit, listen, watch, and learn. Spears and axes were widely used, but she wasn't too keen on the brute force of swinging an axe at whatever came within reach. The spear would let her make quick jabs at weak spots while keeping enough distance from a flailing limb. She'd follow the spear hunters around the camp until one of them let her keep a broken spear's shaft to practice with, but only if there was no prey in sight.
