History

The Past

She almost didn't live to see her naming ceremony when she was stung by a poisonous creature in the night. She was barely able to eat and was drained of energy with each day until it looked like she was past hope. Maybe it was the medicine or prayers, but she finally stabilized and was able to recover enough over the next year until hew name could be spoken to Azeyma. The tribe was assured that little K'latolo Bashir would see many more years, but anything could happen to see her ashes mingling with the sand.

Severe sickness only a couple years earlier was no excuse for K'latolo to miss out on learning how to hunt. She kept up with the other children and the hunting party but was happier than the rest when it was time to sit, listen, watch, and learn. Spears and axes were widely used, but she wasn't too keen on the brute force of swinging an axe at whatever came within reach. The spear would let her make quick jabs at weak spots while keeping enough distance from a flailing limb. She'd follow the spear hunters around the camp with questions and hoping for more hands-on lessons if they had nothing better to do; sometimes these lessons would be given by one of the Nuhns.

When it came time to recite all that she'd learned, she did about as well as the others. She knew much more about how and when to use a spear than an axe, but was ale to prove that she wasn't neglecting lessons just because she thought one was best. Lessons would become more active as the young hunters were prepared for the next step in becoming adults within the tribe. They were asked more questions than before about what was being tracked and how the hunting party should proceed. Only the adults were still allowed to close in for the kill, but the students were allowed to come closer and put to use the lessons on not spooking the prey too soon.
