Finally, X'tosh realized that no matter how much he worked for it, how hard he strived for it, approval form his clas was all but a pipe dream. Afterwards he would become a Slave of a Noble from Ul'dah. Taking notice of X'tosh's Lean physique and obvious ferocity, the Noble took this oppurtunity to make X'tosh a gladiator. For nearly 6 years, X'tosh would fight tooth and nail to stay alive in grueling underground Gladiatorial fights. There was but one silver lining in this misfortune to befall him, during these long 6 years, he finally had someone he could call a friend, his partner during gladiatorial team fights. a well built Midlander Hyur, about the same age as X'tosh, they met fairly early on in their slave lives, and as time went on, their trust and friendship became unbending. They would always say how one day, they would become free of this pit of blood and tears, and become free men, to live as Adventurers, and they would work towards this one goal, obviously since the noble who owned both of them would have no intention of letting either of them leave, they plotted in secret which was easy seeing as they were roomies in the same cage. The day they finally put their escape plan into action, would leave an impact on X'tosh that would never be forgotten, no matter how much time would pass. Nearing the end of their escape an unfortunate series of events managed to claim the life of his dear friend, he gave his life so that X'tosh could continue his, they both knew each others backgrounds, and he had decided that even though his lot in life was harsh, X'tosh had never known happiness, and gave him the gift of freedom. When X'tosh finally escaped the nobleman's premises he ran as far as he could, away from the nobleman, away from Ul'dah, and away from his Slave life. He would not return for two years, when he was 25. While on the Carriage giving him ferry to ul'dah, a fellow passenger asked him of his name, remembering his hardships from Ul'dah and even before that, he discarded his old name, X'tosh Tia, and in that moment, he remembered his friend, his only ally in his life, and he replied to the man, "My name? My name is, Kaus Lanford." | |
