Glass-circle.png Overview

Kotone Shimayasu

Shimayasu no Kotone is a Raen of the Au Ra race who primarily resided on an island well off the shores of Othard’s mainland. A member of a deeply spiritual and reclusive group of Raen who have been long known for their skills and abilities in the healing and aetherical arts, those who once lived on the island have been forced to leave their home as the landmass began to sink below the waves. Scattered to the winds, most of their numbers have integrated easily into societies on the grace of their arts, and Kotone has wandered Eorzea in search of her place as well.

The Shimayasu Raen are a peaceful sort whose main source of income is built through their healing abilities, which they believe are gifts bestowed on them by their deities. In addition to this service, which they give regardless of race or creed, they peddle their wares; fish, rare herbs, pearls and gems, and even jewelry fashioned from bones, shells and corals. Primarily healers in nature, their physical fighters are few and far between, instead preferring to rely on their aetherical magics.

A polytheistic group, each Raen tends to choose a patron deity of their own, with whom they form a devotional bond while still maintaining the ceremonies and tributes for the others. Kotone’s patron deity represents the elements of water and air, and through her, Kotone believes her healing capabilities are increased. Her reverence for this deity, though it is unnamed, is one of her anchors and she never misses a moment of communion, often traveling several malms to find the perfect spot along the sea where she can perform her ceremonies.

History

Glass-circle.png History

Past

Past

As part of her own views on the subject, and the general culture of the community that she was raised in, Kotone’s history has never been documented in the written word, and thus much of it has been lost to time. This does not bother her, as her experiences have been worth whatever memories she might keep locked away.

What is known, mostly to those who might have encountered the Shimayasu Raen, is that Kotone was born on an outlying island, and moved to Shimayasu not long after her third summer. Her life was devoid of altercations and complications, and she was a sunny child who later took to the spiritual teachings of the Shimayasu Raen healers in her fifteenth summer. She was best known as being quiet and docile, only showing great emotion once her training began during private moments of communion with her patron deity.

Personality

Nature & Demeanor

Nature & Demeanor

Reserved and rather quiet, Kotone is easy to miss simply because she chooses to remain out of the spotlight. Her motions and movements speak far more than she herself does, each flowing effortlessly into the next, though none without purpose. This habit of not speaking has given her speech a somewhat slow and soothing rhythm when she does speak, though often it is confused with a language difficulty.

Kotone regards the world with a degree of patience one might find only with a mother of several wayward children. She dislikes treating anyone differently based off of hearsay, and shows little in the way of carrying gripes or grudges. She is an easy shoulder to lean on, and never seems to think twice about offering advice to those who might need it – provided they ask.

She can easily be seen as someone who is lonely, though she’ll never utter a word that might confirm such. Though she settles easily in a crowd, it is not hard to tell that she is most comfortable on the outskirts, watching. It’s rare to hear her laugh or see her smile, and she seems incapable of being flustered as so many might expect.

Appearance

Glass-circle.png Appearance

Kotone’s active early life has given her a body that is fit and feminine, her height slightly smaller than her race’s average. She bears the pale scales of the Raen sub-species, though these deviate from the norm by being an odd mix of firm and leather-y, depending on location. Her pale skin is relatively unmarked save for a few long-healed signs of an active childhood on her feet and knees, but she’s otherwise quite well-kept.

She lacks the rings in her eyes that most of her kind often features, and while she lines her eyes in dark colors, she shows an aversion to any more color than that. Where some of her compatriots may spend bells with make-up, Kotone’s highlight is the lengthy hair she bears, and the intricate braids that she chooses to keep the loose locks in. She often decorates the silver-white strands with shells or beads, choosing colorful and pretty items that catch her eye rather than those of any value.

While neatly kept, Kotone favors light clothing that still covers her modestly. If the weather is particularly warm, she may dress down in light colored fabrics – usually in blues and greens. It’s rare to see her in decorative, heavy or gaudy clothing outside of ceremony or if it’s been gifted from a client. Rare as well are any dark colors – she seems to have an aversion to them, even in her favored hue.

In contrast, she goes to considerable lengths of preparation for her ceremonies, tributes, and rare performances. Her scales are painted with an iridescent dust that makes them shimmer, and it is usually the only time that she is seen dressed in so little. While she maintains a fresh-faced appearance, a little color on her pale skin is more evident on the lids of her eyes and her lips.

Abilities

Abilities

Kotone is a skilled healer raised on the foundations of spiritual, physical, and sexual healing. At her disposal are several types of holistic remedies that range from herbs and teas, to full-contact therapies. Additionally, her conjury is strong enough to lend aid to those who might not hold with her own beliefs.

As part of her culture and faith, she also holds the ability to manipulate – but not create – the elements of water and air. This she does rarely, because of how taxing it is on her without proper preparation. Often, she collects crystals that bear the elements themselves, which helps ease the load on her. These are commonly woven into her regalia in some manner when she knows she will be performing.

Kotone is a skilled musician and dancer, and while she can sing quite well, rarely does so.

Combat

Combat

While Kotone prefers to avoid violence whenever possible, she is capable of holding her own with fairly basic offensive conjury with a preference towards wind and water aetherics. Generally, she will attempt to bind or slow attackers so that she might flee, rather than face them head on.

When forced into action, however, she shows a healer’s aptitude for knowing where best to strike to cause the most injury with little energy expelled.

One of the few Kotone has met among the Respite, the two seem to share several similarities that ease the troubled Raen. While she would not be so forward as to call her a friend, Kotone has a great respect for the fellow Au Ra.

The first that Kotone met at the Respite, she holds a great deal of respect for the woman. She has no doubts that the flattery shown to her is likely part of Rommie’s lifestyle, and she takes little personal interest in it directly, though she does enjoy the woman’s company.

Roleplay

Roleplay

IC Frequency: Kotone is primarily a role-play character with little intention on progressing her through PvE content at a quick pace. If you see her, she is IC – if you’re uncertain, just whisper!

Character Injury: I’m pretty good at tormenting my own character, but in the event of an altercation, know that I give permission up to, but not including, death of the character.

Erotic Themes: Kotone’s character lends easily to intimacy and one-off’s. This is fine, and I’ve no personal issue with it. That said, I prefer such to still happen within the development of the character.

Potential Issues: Kotone is an alternate character, and while I do enjoy playing her, at the moment my other characters are far more involved. As a result, Kotone may be harder to catch outside of company events – but I will happily trade information should a player be interested in catching her.

Interactions Listing: Kotone’s interactions are broken up due to how she interacts and thinks. They are by no means kept updated in their entirety – chances are that they’ll only be updated once every couple of months.
