Character History

About Kumori

Kumori Farcloud is from the small village of Orozo.

She holds the title of shrine guardian where she is charged with defending the shrine priestess and the village inhabitants from external threats. She took great pride in her duty but pride alone wasn't enough to stem the tide of fate. The village was attacked by Xaela of the Dorthal tribe, within a few hours they killed most of the villagers.

Despite having received specific instructions from her father to flee with her sisters, Kumori was overzealous and wanted to prove that she was a capable shrine guardian. She broke away from the rest of her family to rejoin her brother who had stayed behind to fend off the attack. Her father Haru tried to stop her but he had resolved to get his other daughters to safety before pursuing his foolish daughter.

Before Kumori could meet up with her brother she was waylaid by a group of Dorthal that were patrolling the outskirts of the village looking for any stragglers. She fought valiantly but was ultimately overwhelmed by sheer numbers, they taunted, kicked, spit, and laughed at the severely wounded Auri. Just as the assailants were preparing to deliver the final blow a Raen descended upon them with an unbridled rage dispatching them in a most brutal fashion. For a moment through her blurry vision she had mistaken this person for a savage beast but as a face drew near, the fierce face of the "beast" seemingly faded away into a concerned expression, it was her brother Arashi.

He scooped her battered body up and only one word escaped his breath "Fool". Arashi traveled for malms with Kumori in tow until he stumbled upon an old abandoned hut where a hermit used to reside. Days, weeks, months went by as Arashi tended to her wounds in silence. She could not muster the courage to speak not even to give a thank you because she knew that she had failed. After several months Kumori made a full recovery and as soon as she could stand Arashi had spoken the first words to her in months, "I must go, there is still something that I need to do. You need to find the others."

After those few words he went silent again, Arashi handed her a rucksack with food, water, a bedroll, some equipment to wear, and finally her weapon. Although Kumori uses a special technique to wield her blade, Arashi hefted it one handed with little effort placing it in her hands. He embraces her for a brief moment then gives a firm nod and leaves the hut not looking back. That was the last time she saw her brother but she knew by that look in his eyes that they all had their roles to play and she would play hers by finding the rest of their family. Shortly afterward she set out before pausing to utter "Thank you brother, I will not fail again".

Three years have passed since that fateful day. Kumori has lost contact with her brother Arashi but has found a lead on the whereabouts of her sisters. She set out to reunite with her family and ultimately reclaim her home.

Abilities and Skills

Personal

Kumori has trained under her sister Sayori using Hotaru no hiko style martial arts. She isn't as physically strong as Sayo but compensates by using aether imbued attacks.

Weapons

• Kumori wields a giant blade the Yama o Setsudan or "Cleaving Mountain".

Normally she can't lift it on her own but she learned how to channel her aether into the blade making it lighter while still maintaining all of it's lethality

• While wielding her sword she uses her aether to enhance her defenses creating a thin aetheric membrane that softens blows but it requires a large amount of aether to maintanin. Due to her limitations she can only cover her upper torso with this ability.

Magic

• Kumori has trained in aether manipulation but never mastered it's full potential thus making it unstable.

Relationships ♥ Romantic Interest ♥ Platonic Love ● Good Standing ● Poor Standing ♥Chidori Farcloud : Although Chidori is a year older, Kumori is protective of her mostly due to Chi's position as shrine maiden and hers as shrine guardian. Kumori's resolve is steeled by an honor bound duty mixed with familial love to return the shrine maiden to her rightful place. Kumori also shares a fondness of flowers with her sister although she rarely acknowledges it. ♥ Minori Farcloud : Minori and Kumori spent a lot of time together in their earlier years. Kumo's generally abrasive attitude softens up a bit when near her little sister seemingly bringing out her gentler side. ♥ Sayori Farcloud : Kumori's feelings toward her elder sister are complicated. She admires her prowess in battle but is also frustrated with her whimsical nature. She even trained under Sayori for a time learning how to wield several weapons. ♥ Arashi Farcloud : The eldest of the Farcloud siblings and Kumori's ideal role model. While Sayori is the epitome of martial prowess, Arashi has all the qualities and principles that Kumori wishes to imitate. ♥ Sakashi Farcloud (Deceased) : Arashi's late wife and Kumori's teacher in all things aether related. At first, Kumo was at odds with Sakashi believing that she wasn't good enough for her brother. Over the years though she warmed up to Sakashi's good nature and all around kindness. They spent a lot of time together helping to harness Kumori's unstable aether so she would be able to wield it without harming herself or others until Sakashi's untimely demise. ♥ Haru Farcloud :Not much is known about the father of the Farcloud household. Haru is often away from the village tending to matters elsewhere but when he is able, being involved as much as possible with his children is his top priority. ♥ Kaori Farcloud (Deceased) : Matron of the Farcloud family, not much is known about Kaori and Kumori tends to be tight lipped when her mother is brought up.
