Description

Appearance

Height: 5'

Hair Colour: White

Fur: White

Skin: Pale

Build: Waif-like, very androgynous

Distinctive Marks

Equipment/Apparel

Kym'a tends to wear robes, which only adds to the difficulty of discerning his actual gender. He prefers the colours white and blue, but often has to make do with whatever he can get his paws on.

Abilities

Kym'a is a natural linguist, and learns languages fairly easily. His primary focus is the ancient Allagan tongue, and it's dialects. He can make sense of languages that are similar, although he can't translate the unknown language word for word. He started learning other languages from outsiders and books when he was very young, and is currently learning the languages of the Beastmen tribes.

Unfortunately for Kym'a, very few people speak their racial tongue anymore.

Kym'a is a novice Arcanist, however his Carbuncle came to him before he had even remotely learned the basics of magic. While he tries hard, he's not very good with magic, likely due to a lack of confidence, and his spells are often either underpowered or unintentionally overpowered unless they're related to the Carbuncle, or summons in general.

As a sort of hobby, Kym'a likes to make jewellery, and isn't half bad at doing so.

Misc. Quirks: Since he is so short for a male Miqo'te, with rather large eyes and pretty facial features, Kym'a is often mistaken for a girl; despite the fact he is distinctly male, he doesn't bother correcting people who make this mistake anymore. Its like he's given up fighting the general perception, or tired of constantly having to explain himself to others. The fact that he tends to wear robes doesn't help this general perception of him much either.

When speaking to others in common Eorzean, Kym'a has a bit of a stammer/stutter to his speech pattern. This increases whenever more attention is drawn to him, and whenever there are more people nearby; he's not very socially adept, and social situations seem to unnerve him quite a bit. Oddly, he does not have this problem when speaking in most of the racial languages - it seems to be something about common Eorzean that gets his tongue tied.

Kym'a inaccurately calls his Emerald Carbuncle "cat-rabbit" or "cabbit" when he's referring to her; her actual name is apparently Macha, and she apparently corrects him about it all the time. He also calls his Topaz Carbuncle "other cabbit", but it seems that Michi doesn't care about such things.

Relationships

Previous

Esma Binaka - Kym'a's aunt, leader of the Yai Sahroa village. It was Esma's decision to have Gildi'a leave home with his original mentor.

Tsura Binaka - Kym'a's aunt, high priestess of the Yai Sahroa village. Tsura was the one to discern exactly what his Emerald Carbuncle was, and advised that Gildi'a be apprenticed to an Arcanist.

Aishe Shon - Kym'a's aunt, commander of Yai Sahroa's protectors and hunters.

Gildi Shon - Kym'a's mother, sister of Aishe Shon. Gildi was the first to discover that Gildi'a had an affinity for magic and the elements; at first, she mistook Macha for some sort of air spirit.

Thavm'a Draba - Kym'a's original mentor. He was a Keeper of the Moon who was proficient in the arts of arcanium, however he was not truly a master of the art. After his death, Kym'a began using his name as his surname, as he felt that Thavma was more of a parent to him than Gildi had been (through no fault of her own, since he was apprenticed when he was extremely young).

Kym Rawni - While Thavm'a always wandered Eorzea, he always returned to Kym Rawni's side after a few months abroad. Kym was a surrogate mother to the young arcanist, so he changed his name from Gildi'a to Kym'a.

Currently

Macha - An emerald Carbuncle that has been with Kym'a for some time. She dislikes his nicknames for her, and will get quite vocal about such whenever he uses them.

Michi - A topaz Carbuncle that Kym'a summoned shortly after joining the Arcanists' Guild.

Althea - An Eos fairy, twin of Asteria.

Asteria - A Selene fairy, twin of Althea.

Biography

Yai Sahroa

Deep in the Black Shroud, Yai Sahroa is a small village that was settled in the early half of the Sixth Astral Era. Twin sisters Esma and Tsura Binaka, along with their cousin Aishe, left their mother's village of Dya Dabraa and founded the settlement after an argument that has created bad blood between the two tribes ever since; many of the wandering males who frequented Dya Dabraa sided with the twins, and no longer frequented the village, instead visiting Yai Sahroa.

Each founding woman had a particular role within the tribal family. Esma was charismatic, and had a knack for leadership and the day to day management of the tribe. Tsura had a rare talent for healing magics, and was a priestess of Menphina, so she was the spiritual force within the tribe. Aishe was a fiery warrior and talented archer, causing her to focus on training those who were martially inclined as well as managing the settlements defences.

After the deaths of Esma, Tsura, and Aishe became something akin to a title. The eldest daughter of Esma's line, who was also fit to rule, would take on her name when she became the matriarch. The most talented mage of Tsura's line would take on her name when they became the high priestess of the tribe. Lastly, the strongest warrior with a head for strategy would take on Aishe's name upon assuming command of the combative branch of the tribe.

While most of the offspring in the village, male and female, eventually leave Yai Sahroa to adventure or found their own villages, a few from each generation remain, ensuring the continued existence of the settlement. In recent years, many of these Miqo'te have settled in Gridania and its surrounding area, creating a strong bridge between Yai Sahroa and the largest city in the Shroud.

Over time, the people of Yai Sahroa grew tired of the heated fued with Dya Dabraa, however their enemies refused to broker peace. After many heated debates, the residents of Yai Sahroa chose to stop their raids upon Dya Dabraa, however the other side did not; Aishe and her warriors not only had to hunt and provide for the tribe, but they also had to continue staunch defence against hostile forest creatures and their former kin. In the centuries leading up to the Calamity, the attacks from Dya Dabraa slowed, however several still took place every Sun right up to the events in 1572.

Since the Calamity, it seems that Dya Dabraa has fallen. Both villages were heavily damaged during Bahamut's flight, although it appears that Dya Dabraa was abandoned before the Shroud was aflame, as the scouting party from Yai Sahroa found no bodies in the ruins of the village. While most of Yai Sahroa burned, the residents have been rebuilding for the past five years.
