Description

Appearance

Height: 5'

Hair Colour: White

Fur: White

Skin: Pale

Build: Waif-like, very androgynous

Distinctive Marks

Equipment/Apparel

Kym'a tends to wear robes, which only adds to the difficulty of discerning his actual gender. He prefers the colours white and blue, but often has to make do with whatever he can get his paws on.

Abilities

Kym'a is a natural linguist, and learns languages fairly easily. His primary focus is the ancient Allagan tongue, and it's dialects. He can make sense of languages that are similar, although he can't translate the unknown language word for word. He started learning other languages from outsiders and books when he was very young, and is currently learning the languages of the Beastmen tribes.

Unfortunately for Kym'a, very few people speak their racial tongue anymore.

Kym'a is a novice Arcanist, however his Carbuncle came to him before he had even remotely learned the basics of magic. While he tries hard, he's not very good with magic, likely due to a lack of confidence, and his spells are often either underpowered or unintentionally overpowered unless they're related to the Carbuncle, or summons in general.

As a sort of hobby, Kym'a likes to make jewellery, and isn't half bad at doing so.

Misc. Quirks: Since he is so short for a male Miqo'te, with rather large eyes and pretty facial features, Kym'a is often mistaken for a girl; despite the fact he is distinctly male, he doesn't bother correcting people who make this mistake anymore. Its like he's given up fighting the general perception, or tired of constantly having to explain himself to others. The fact that he tends to wear robes doesn't help this general perception of him much either.

When speaking to others in common Eorzean, Kym'a has a bit of a stammer/stutter to his speech pattern. This increases whenever more attention is drawn to him, and whenever there are more people nearby; he's not very socially adept, and social situations seem to unnerve him quite a bit. Oddly, he does not have this problem when speaking in most of the racial languages - it seems to be something about common Eorzean that gets his tongue tied.

Kym'a inaccurately calls his Emerald Carbuncle "cat-rabbit" or "cabbit" when he's referring to her; her actual name is apparently Macha, and she apparently corrects him about it all the time. He also calls his Topaz Carbuncle "other cabbit", but it seems that Michi doesn't care about such things.

Relationships

Previous

Esma Binaka - Kym'a's aunt, leader of the Yai Sahroa village. It was Esma's decision to have Gildi'a leave home with his original mentor.

Tsura Binaka - Kym'a's aunt, high priestess of the Yai Sahroa village. Tsura was the one to discern exactly what his Emerald Carbuncle was, and advised that Gildi'a be apprenticed to an Arcanist.

Aishe Shon - Kym'a's aunt, commander of Yai Sahroa's protectors and hunters.

Gildi Shon - Kym'a's mother, sister of Aishe Shon. Gildi was the first to discover that Gildi'a had an affinity for magic and the elements; at first, she mistook Macha for some sort of air spirit.

Thavma'a Draba - Kym'a's original mentor. He was a Keeper of the Moon who was proficient in the arts of arcanium, however he was not truly a master of the art. After his death, Kym'a began using his name as his surname, as he felt that Thavma was more of a parent to him than Gildi had been (through no fault of her own, since he was apprenticed when he was extremely young).

Kym Rawni - While Thavma'a always wandered Eorzea, he always returned to Kym Rawni's side after a few months abroad. Kym was a surrogate mother to the young arcanist, so he changed his name from Gildi'a to Kym'a.

Currently

Macha - An emerald Carbuncle that has been with Kym'a for some time. She dislikes his nicknames for her, and will get quite vocal about such whenever he uses them.

Michi - A topaz Carbuncle that Kym'a summoned shortly after joining the Arcanists' Guild.

Althea - An Eos fairy, twin of Asteria.

Asteria - A Selene fairy, twin of Althea.

Mogchi - A very young Moogle that has taken to following Kym'a around lately.

Tygilo - A Garuda-Egi that Kym'a is still having a hard time accepting as a companion.

K'oritsi - A wind-up Miqo'te doll that was given to Kym'a by a unnamed benefactor.

Biography

Yai Sahroa

Deep in the Black Shroud, Yai Sahroa is a small village that was settled in the early half of the Sixth Astral Era. Twin sisters Esma and Tsura Binaka, along with their cousin Aishe, left their mother's village of Dya Dabraa and founded the settlement after an argument that has created bad blood between the two tribes ever since; many of the wandering males who frequented Dya Dabraa sided with the twins, and no longer frequented the village, instead visiting Yai Sahroa.

Each founding woman had a particular role within the tribal family. Esma was charismatic, and had a knack for leadership and the day to day management of the tribe. Tsura had a rare talent for healing magics, and was a priestess of Menphina, so she was the spiritual force within the tribe. Aishe was a fiery warrior and talented archer, causing her to focus on training those who were martially inclined as well as managing the settlements defences.

After the deaths of Esma, Tsura, and Aishe became something akin to a title. The eldest daughter of Esma's line, who was also fit to rule, would take on her name when she became the matriarch. The most talented mage of Tsura's line would take on her name when they became the high priestess of the tribe. Lastly, the strongest warrior with a head for strategy would take on Aishe's name upon assuming command of the combative branch of the tribe.

While most of the offspring in the village, male and female, eventually leave Yai Sahroa to adventure or found their own villages, a few from each generation remain, ensuring the continued existence of the settlement. In recent years, many of these Miqo'te have settled in Gridania and its surrounding area, creating a strong bridge between Yai Sahroa and the largest city in the Shroud.

Over time, the people of Yai Sahroa grew tired of the heated fued with Dya Dabraa, however their enemies refused to broker peace. After many heated debates, the residents of Yai Sahroa chose to stop their raids upon Dya Dabraa, however the other side did not; Aishe and her warriors not only had to hunt and provide for the tribe, but they also had to continue staunch defence against hostile forest creatures and their former kin. In the centuries leading up to the Calamity, the attacks from Dya Dabraa slowed, however several still took place every Sun right up to the events in 1572.

Since the Calamity, it seems that Dya Dabraa has fallen. Both villages were heavily damaged during Bahamut's flight, although it appears that Dya Dabraa was abandoned before the Shroud was aflame, as the scouting party from Yai Sahroa found no bodies in the ruins of the village. While most of Yai Sahroa burned, the residents have been rebuilding for the past five years.

Early Life

After a few weeks with a wandering male Keeper, it became apparent that Gildi Shon was finally pregnant. The small cluster of families within Yai Sahroa celebrated, as it had been several years since any woman had given birth; several months later, she gave birth to a tiny baby boy, and there was further celebration after the initial scare that the child wouldn't live long enough to be celebrated.

Gildi'a remained sickly for the first few months of his life, but remained small and "runty" for all of his life. He inherited much of his mother's facial features and slender physique, causing many of the children who were slightly older to tease him. Gildi' didn't take well to this, and refused to speak at all for several years, although it was clear he understood what was being said to him.

Rather than playing with the other children, and given his frail stature along with his graceless movement, Gildi'a took to reading books. While many in the village were initially disturbed by how physically inept he was, many of them began to indulge him by providing reading materials; from martial texts to arcane tomes, everything was slowly devoured by his thirst for knowledge. He also tended to talk to people who weren't there, carrying on entire conversations without there being anyone anywhere near him; his aunt Tsura hoped that this meant he might follow in her footsteps as a Conjurer.

Shortly after his fifth birthday, while he was alone outside the hut he shared with his mother, he was confronted by a glowing turquoise creature that had a brilliant ruby embedded on its forehead. Although he didn't realise it, Gildi'a had managed to grasp the basic concepts of Arcanium, and such materialised into a Carbuncle. While fascinated by the creature, he did his best to keep it a secret, unaware that the creature could be unsummoned at any time - he made a small hiding place for it in the bushes behind the hut.

Within six or so months, his mother discovered the secret, spying Gildi'a and his Carbuncle through the window of the hut. Alarmed, she tried to chase the creature away, but Gildi'a refused to let her near him; it was then that his mother realised that the creature was somehow connected, and she immediately took them both to Tsura, the current spiritual leader of the village.

Tsura was fascinated by the creature, and learned that her daughter had been loaning many of the rarer magickal text to Gildi'a. She did a few test, by having him draw various stratagems in the dirt, each having some sort of effect as he finished them. While he didn't completely understand the practical applications, he took to Arcanium like a fish takes to water.

Over the next few days, Tsura, Gildi, and the village leader Esma discussed what should be done about young Gildi'a. While they were still debating on what to do, one of their occasional visitors arrived - Thavma'a Draba - and essentially solved the problem for them.

While Tsura was familiar with the ways of Conjury, Thavma'a was familiar with the ways of Arcanium. After seeing the rather noticeable Carbuncle chasing after the runty child that had his nose in a book, Thavm'a explained to the worrying family about the arts of Arcanists, and revealed his familiarity with the arts.

Although Esma tried to convince Thavm'a to remain in their village to teach Gildi'a, the seemingly reclusive male declined and made a counter offer: he would take the boy with him for training, and return annually to Yai Sahroa so that his mother could still see him. For several days, the women of the village and his mother argued over whether or not such a deal should be struck, and ultimately Esma had to pull her rank over Gildi; Gildi accused Esma of exiling her child, and was not even present when Thavma'a lead Gildi'a away.

Apprenticeship

The first place that Thavma'a took the young Gildi'a was what could be considered his permanent place of residence, although Thavm'a travelled so often, some might not consider it such. There he was introduced to the woman who Thavm'a considered to be his life mate, Kym Rawni.

Kym had not been able to bare Thavma'a any children, although she longed to be a mother, and immediately showed Gildi'a more attention than he'd ever experienced. At first, he was terrified of the woman, and Thavma'a had to explain how painfully shy Gildi'a was, as well as the fact that his mother had not been present when they had left the village.

This did not deter Kym, it merely caused her to shift her tactics for a while. While Thavma'a and Gildi'a spent most of the colder season there, Kym slowly gained the boy's trust and affection; by the time the pair left in the spring, Gildi'a even cried when Kym didn't come with them. She did get them all linkpearls, and he talked to her every night along with Thavm'a.

Thavma'a started Gildi'a's teaching with the very basics of Arcanium, despite the fact the boy had already memorised all the basic stratagem designs. He lacked knowledge of application, aside from recognising that some hurt while others harmed, so Thavm'a worked to emphasis this above all else initially. Once the boy understood the practical applications of Arcanium in the field, Thavma'a began to expand his curriculum.

As he was educated, Gildi'a travelled with his mentor throughout the Black Shroud. Some nights they would camp out in the wilds while other nights they would stay in a Keeper village; while the women largely ignored the boy, or mistook him for a little girl, Thavma'a received plenty of attention, and often Gildi'a had to stay in the guest hut or home alone.

Gildi'a saw much of the Shroud during his first year of travelling, along with many of the Keeper villages within the forest. Although it would take many more years of wandering to memorise the Shroud, he was starting to learn the general landmarks, especially any that made Thavma'a tell a long story.

Almost a year after leaving Yai Sahroa, the pair returned to the small village. It was very awkward for Gildi'a, as it was also the first time he'd seen his mother since leaving. She had grown hard and gaunt physically, and though she tried to be affectionate towards him while they were there, she was nothing but cruel towards Thavm'a, which Gildi'a disliked greatly. He and his mother fought about the man several times over the days the pair were in Yai Sahroa, causing a great rift between them - it did not help matters when Gildi locked herself in her room the day her son left again.

Together, they travelled the Shroud for about nine months before returning back to the fine home that Kym owned. Gildi'a was very happy to see her, even rushing up to give the woman a hug; by the end of that cold season, the boy announced that his name was Kym'a, and would get very upset if they tried to call him Gildi'a. Thavma'a warned Kym that it may or may not be a phase, and explained what had happened when they had returned to Yai Sahroa, as the boy had told his mentor everything that was said - with the exaggeration six year olds make.
