He was often out on hunts or clan matters with his father, learning how to deal with people. He took up an interest in archery, and in his teens decided he wanted to serve in the Doman Army to the west ahead of the coming problems with Garlemald. His parents were supportive, and proud of their son as he left Hakane to join up with the army. On the way to the capital, he met Jehantel, who he traveled with for several weeks towards the west coast. During this time, the Bard taught him the ways of the harp, and how to use songs in battle as a Bard.

A while into his military training, the Garlean Army invaded Doma and overwhelmed the army effortlessly, moving a large portion of their forces to occupy the western reaches of the country. The army broke up into factions, and Kyo headed back home to Hakane. Far East of the army, across the nigh-impassable mountain ranges, the Raen thought they were safe. However, it was not long before war would be waged across Doma again. Following the defeat of Gaius van Baelsar by the Eorzeans, and the loss of their late Emperor, the Garleans were in a state of complete confusion. The Doman factions reuinited in an attempt to drive the Garleans from their homeland, and Kyo left his village alone to join them once more. However, it was mere days before the army returned, doubled in size under the new commander, Regula van Hydrus. Bringing weapons and ships of Magitek weaponry, they obliterated the army, once again seizing control of the capital. This time, however, they did not stop there. Kyo and a group of Army survivors, let by Yugiri Mistwalker, headed back East to take shelter in the villages.

Unfortunately, the Magitek ships were one step ahead of them, raining fire upon the mountainsides, killing hundreds. Hakane was one of the worst hit, and Kyo barely had time to pull his sister's body from the wreckage of their home before the ships rolled around again. The group fled Doma entirely, and smuggled themselves through the capital to escape under Yugiri's instruction. Reaching Mor Dhona across the seas, Kyo parted way with the other Domans, to search for others who managed to make the trip across safely. He vowed he would not let another country fall to the iron fist of Garlemald, and there he pledged his allegiance to the Maelstrom in order to protect the people of Eorzea.

Appearance & Personality

Nature & Demeanor

Nature & Demeanor

Demeanor: Kyo is often perceived one of two very different ways: A skilled, determined marksman who none can surpass... or a drunk fool staggering around the streets of Limsa Lominsa. He likes to drink, perhaps in troublesome amounts, but underneath his scaly exterior is a soldier with a heart of gold. He often speaks and acts in ways that the highborn folks of Ishgard regard as common or vulgar, but this is to be expected from the child of a Doman clan leader, raised in the mountains in the east of the country.

Nature: Kyo is a good man at heart, and he prides himself on his efforts to do good in the world. His past failures during the Doman Revolution are what he considers his driving force in his adventures through Eorzea. However, he has a very fun-loving, playful side, which comes out as often as possible, but he places the job at hand at top priority.

Tropes: Bara Friendly Sniper Drunken Master

Habits: Drinking, swearing, drunken flirting, sober flirting, picking fights with Garleans.

Notable Features

Notable Features

Common Appearance: Kyo is a tall Au Ra of the Raen clan. He bears the light gold-colour scales of his clan, as well as two curved horns on his head and a long, slender spiked tail. Kyo has the fairly sharp features characteristic of a Doman man, with a tan skintone to match. He ties his long, brown hair up in a long ponytail that reaches his lower back.

Scars & Markings: The usual Raen scale formations. He also has a burn scar on his left side from the war that he hates talking about.

Voice: Kyo speaks loud and proud, he was raised to lead his village once his father passed on, so he's got the confidence behind his voice. He tends to keep his cool and not shout, but when he's drunk he has little control over his volume. Not to say that he doesn't make snide comments under his breath too, though.

Clothing: Kyo currently wears a Doman-style outfit in his favourite colour, Rolanberry Red, as can be seen above. He wears a matching red scarf and white, baggy shorts that tuck under white caligae, plated with dark-red and gold shin guards.

Prejudices

Prejudices
Kyo is extremely prejudiced against Garleans, even those who have abandoned their country. He carries bitter memories of the Garlean invasion, and does not forgive easily. Due to this, he also hates the use of Magitek, and this causes him to clash with some adventurers frequently.

Abilities

Strengths

Strengths

No one can deny that Kyo has a keen eye and amazing archery skills. He even finds that downing a drink or two calms him, steadying his hands and giving him better accuracy. His tracking skills have been honed through several years of military training and warfare. He's also fairly charismatic, able to win over the hearts of many he comes across with his good looks and flirty charm. He is also well-versed in Doman culture and literature, and has been researching Eorzean history since traversing the sea.

Weaknesses

Weaknesses

Kyo's alcoholism is, for him at least, often helpful as it calms him and makes him more bold. However, it does have its drawbacks, often getting him into trouble for drunken antics on days off. He also suffers from night terrors where he has flashbacks of the war, and the sight of seeing his village burn to the ground. His loss hangs over him greatly, and although he tries his best to hide it behind a smile, there are moments where, alone, he cracks.

Combat

Combat
Kyo is skilled in archery, tracking and hunting. He also learned to use several of the Bard's Songs from Jehantel during the latter's travels through Doma, although he prefers to focus more on the combat side of his role in the battlefield. Being trained up in the military as a ranged fighter meant that he also had to undergo basic medic training, and his limited magical ability does allow him to heal, at least partially, most non-fatal wounds.

Akagi & Kasumi Kodakumi ( )
Details: Akagi and Kasumi Kodakumi were Kyo's parents, both Raen members of the Au Ra. Akagi was the clan leader of a large group of Raen who lived in the beautiful mountainside village of Hakane. Both parents were proud to see their son take up arms and train with the military to resist Garlean forces, but ultimately as the Doman army fell, the Magitek soldiers marched through and burned most of the country to the ground. By the time Kyo could make it back to Hakane, it was too late to save them as their burning home collapsed into a pile of rubble.

Yura Kodakumi ( )
Details: Yura was Kyo's sister, an Au Ra Raen like her parents. Yura was three years younger than Kyo, and took more after her mother than father. She was delicate, elegant, well-spoken and educated by the elders of the clan, training her every day to be the perfect noblewoman who would deal with the neighbouring clans, and eventually marry into one to build connections between the families. She didn't like her duty, but it was one she accepted nontheless. During the fire at Hakane, Kyo managed to pull her from the wreckage, but she was no longer breathing. Garleans following his group meant that Kyo didn't have time to mourn his family, or even give his sister a proper burial before fleeing.
