His parents were supportive, and proud of their son as he left Hakane to join up with the army. On the way to the capital, he met Jehantel, who he traveled with for several weeks towards the west coast. During this time, the Bard taught him the ways of the harp, and how to use songs in battle as a Bard.

| − | A while into his military training, the Garlean Army invaded Doma and overwhelmed the army effortlessly, moving a large portion of their forces to occupy the western reaches of the country. The army broke up into factions, and Kyo headed back home to Hakane. Far East of the army, across the nigh-impassable mountain ranges, the Raen thought they were safe. However, it was not long before war would be waged across Doma again. Following the defeat of Gaius van Baelsar by the Eorzeans, and the loss of their late Emperor, the Garleans were in a state of complete confusion. However, it was mere days before the army returned, doubled in size under the new commander, Regula van Hydrus. Bringing weapons and ships of Magitek weaponry, they obliterated the army, once again seizing control of the capital. This time, however, they did not stop there. Kyo and a group of Army survivors, let by Yugiri Mistwalker, headed back East to take shelter in the villages.
