Her arrangements were always rife with uncertainty and turbulence, which led her to master the art of adapting to the sometimes demanding shifts in her life. Such adaptation led her personality to flow and bend, finding it far easier to adopt a variance of masks rather than to expose one's true self and leave one vulnerable to the inevitable backlash. Of course, there are times that such masks fade away to reveal inner glimpses. Despite whatever poise or wry smile she places upon her face, Mana has a plethora of insecurities and vulnerabilities. It is perhaps for this reason that she tends to guard herself with a mixture of grace, a coy tongue and a flexible demeanor. She is not ashamed to occasionally bend to the whims of others, even if it harms her initially because as always, Mana tends to look to the future of inevitable gains or losses. While she can keep others at an arm's length, there is no denying that she enjoys friendships and conversation. Most she deems superficial at best, but there is still something to be said about an uplifting chat. For those who stick around her and weasel their way deeper into her life, she holds them dear and remains loyal without question. Loyalty is a rather key quality she holds in her heart, although she acknowledges there are variances for how it can be expressed in a variety of relationships. Perhaps one of the few times she will rival against the flow of her usual demeanor would be to assist a close friend or accomplice. “There is no use holding a grudge against another's nature.” Lastly, Mana tends to believe herself to be relatively kind and compassionate. She would rather help a fellow than scorn them, but she does not hold others to such standards. After various experiences in her travels and former occupation, she has come to accept that everyone is simply a product of their journey. Thieves will steal, killers will kill, etc. It is perhaps that attitude that has both saved her life and cast her into serious trouble from time to time. The years spent dancing, traveling and watching over her shoulder have led to such a habitual walk with her petite build. Even though her height is on the short end of the spectrum for her race, her small frame aids in providing the illusion of long, slender legs. She is by no means physically built or even hinting at an ounce of strength, but her persistent walks and past professions have created a faintly toned, healthy build with special emphasis to her abdomen and rear. A gentle smile or calm expression often is found upon her features, especially when she dives into her habit of people-watching. Her face is on the thin side of acorn-shaped, especially in her cheeks, with a short nose and lips bordering a pouted expression at times. Most noticeable of all her features would be her doe-like eyes, which are a water-bitten blue framed in dark lashes and often lined with dark pigmentation. However unlike many of her Au Ra kindred, she lacks the glowing ringlets around her pupils. Delving into more colorful details, Mana is relatively pale with a hint of sun-kissed skin from both a combination of an outdoors life and stubborn pigmentation. Her scales and clear, Au Ra markings are a vanilla white as is common to the Raen although she often adorns some of her features in silver jewelry, especially along her tail and horns. Mirroring the color of her eyes but in a lighter shade, Mana's hair is a skylit blue with streaks of snowy white tresses intermingling in a few locks or towards the end of some strands. Clothing & Accessories Her attire changes depending on her travels and what goals she may have in mind day to day. If she had her desires fulfilled, nearly everything she wore would be well-made and tailored, yet she is not made of gil and cannot afford such consistent luxuries. Unused to the dry heat of Ul'dah, Mana dresses a little sparsely in shorts or skirts, although she favors leather shoes or boots despite anything else in such attire. In a more comfortable setting, she gravitates towards robes or dresses, especially enjoying the silks and styles of Doma- feeling as if she touches upon some of her heritage which was lost to her. Most consistent of any style, Mana enjoys jewelry when it can be afforded or acquired and takes great care to maintain and keep such items. It is not uncommon to see her with specially-crafted silver to form rings along her tail or tiny dangling chains. Rarely does she acquire ornate gems for such jewelry due to their prices, but a few special pieces are kept guarded. He currently rents a room in her home, but is notorious for losing gil and being behind in payments. While some of his flippant behavior has Mana at her wit's end, she appreciates his friendship although she is reluctant to share her past with him. Kyoshiro Kyogoku [ ♦ ] - Kyo, the Quiet Mercenary Through a series of misunderstood postings, Kyoshiro thought he was being paid to watch over an important figure- Mana. When she discovered this, she quickly corrected him and discovered who was behind the joke. Since then, she finds the mercenary's company to be pleasant on a few chance meetings. More to be added in the future! In the Beginning... [A summary of Mana's backstory.] Mana's childhood was one of turbulence and harsh realities. While she assumes her birth origins stem from Othard, she cannot recall much else due to being so young. Her first fragmented memory that she can recall was being upon a foul-smelling dark ship. This memory, she knows, was from the slave traders who somehow kidnapped or acquired her as a child. She was then placed upon a ship with others to a destination she did not know. The voyage did not last long however, as a group of well-meaning mercenaries assaulted the ship and freed the slaves. She was too young and too far from home to be properly returned. Barely capable of saying anything except for her first name in her native tongue, the mercenaries could do little but take her with them. Either by rumor or connection, Mana eventually was adopted by a Hyur merchant, Evan Rivers. He often delivered goods by way of his own ship, dealing heavily in trade and it was where most of her remaining childhood was spent. It wasn't a bad life and never would she take her adoptive father for granted, although he got into his fair amount of trouble and wasn't a saint by any hint of the word. While Mana didn't have a consistent home, she met plenty of individuals along her travels and learned quite a bit about trade, culture and developed her hobby of dancing. Her father taught her how to write and calculate numbers, while a few of the more good-natured crewmen ventured to teach her small tricks here or there. As she approached later into her teenage years however, life dealt a twisted blow. A wicked storm upon the open ocean claimed the life of her father along with several crewmen. The aftermath of her father's death was difficult for her to deal with and she found herself completely unprepared for what followed after. A few of the remaining crew claimed they were taking their dues as they took the ship over along with her assets, using both guile, experience and the weakness of mourning to their favor. It left Mana with little gil to her name and no home to seek shelter, essentially leaving her to the mercy of the docks and street life of Limsa Lominsa. Homeless and with little worldly job experience on her own, Mana took to begging for awhile. Eventually a courtesan took notice of the young woman's potential beneath the grime and rags. The chance encounter opened doors to a new life as primarily an exotic dancer for several locales. Several years passed as Mana made her life as a seaside dancer and with the territory came dangers, forced expectations and a darker chapter that she often attempts to forget. Often caught under the thumb of mercenaries and loan sharks, Mana did her best to follow the flow of her life. On a few occasions she also extended a hand to help others attempting to hide from both the law and lawless along with smuggling goods now and again. In the recent year, Mana has attempted to start anew. She fled her old debts, contacts and life behind along with claiming a new last name in an effort to create a “respectable” life. Her lack of formal training of any talents outside of dancing has made it a bit difficult, as she is no fighter or academic of the magical arts. However, she hopes with time, effort and a little bit of social grace she can acquire something stable in her life. Of course, it is hard to ignore the past always nipping at her heels...
