"Awwww come on! it wasn't like I was trying to knock your hive over!!" Mathilda flailed as she ran from the swarm of Wesps that buzzed after her. She knew she wanted the oranges and she knew that this particular tree didn't belong to anyone. She didn't find it weird that the other nearby orange trees were mostly picked clean while this one was full of ripe and juicy fruits. She didn't notice the footpaths to the other trees while this specific one had enough grass that it nipped at her calves. She didn't notice the low buzzing as she approached. She didn't notice the large Wespe hive nearby. And she surely didn't notice that when she started plucking oranges, that the hive was being knocked hither and thither.
A seasoned adventurer or hells, just a seasoned traveler would know better than to approach such obvious dangers but Mathilda was neither. Maddie was just a young inexperienced girl with dreams of adventure. And on this day, she got it. After the mad dash to safety, Mathilda sat down on a fallen log to pick her at her stings and to enjoy her hard earned fruit. The smile on her face hadn't vanished, not since she left her village the night before. A few Wespe stings weren't going to send her home. It was just part of the journey.

Maddie is a fairly average girl. At a glance, one has probably seen quite a many young girls who look strikingly similar. Short brown hair, green eyes, with a youthful appearance including that bit of baby fat still hanging on her cheeks. Mathilda is a petite young girl without any glaring stand-out features. She isn't highly beautiful or "homey" as one might say, she just extremely average.
Her hair is kept at a short length as the longer it gets, the curlier it would become, which in her own thoughts, would hamper her in adventuring. Keeping it just a tad longer than chin length was a compromise she made with her mother, as originally she wanted to cut it short. But as her mom told her "You'll just look like a clean face boy signing up for the Yellow Jackets!" much to Mathilda's displeasure. Her green eyes are likely one of her only stand out features, as at LEAST they're not brown, like a majority of her families tend to be. Small and light, Mathilda hit her growth spurt around 12 and has stayed the same nearly the entire time, barely growing an inch and only gaining ponze after a holiday meal.
Mathilda does however, practice swinging around a lance and always played pretend like the Dragoon's in her stories. Jumping around and trying her best to imagine her light self crashing down atop of a wyrm and somehow felling it. But that said, years of swinging sticks and make-shift spears around has made her less than a sack of squishy meat. Under the loose clothing lies some muscle and power. She is a light girl, and her muscles are not bulging knots, but a majority of her muscles are built in her glutes, thighs, and calves for jumping and running. She's no dragoon, but she plays pretend enough to at least be using the "correct" muscles.
Her clothing portrays her obvious newbie status to travel. Light and often loose fitting clothing that is just fine for traveling around town or her village in. Somewhat upper-middle class taste in clothes aside, Maddie doesn't quite understand fully what shoes are best for hiking in and what will keep her warm on long cool nights. She'll often wear whites and greens, as they are her favorite colors.
Mathilda's voice would be described as a light and chipper tone without much base or threat, even when she would be trying her best to sound as such. Her speaking mannerisms are fairly common, though as her family moved around quite a bit, she has no true dialect even if she'd spent more time in Limsa than anywhere else. One would compare Mathilda's verbage and lexicon typically comes off similarly to her upbringing, somewhere in the middle. Not as elegant and profound as an upper class noble, but not so rough and brunt as...the less cultures. You wont hear many "is aught amiss?" or "Cloy them stabbers from the fambles!" from this middle of the road lass.

Biography

Mathilda Eloise Browne, the little one who tried to start her life feet first. Literally!
After a successful (albeit stressful) breech birth, Mathida lived a mostly quiet life with her parents. Being a baby was cushy. Food when she wanted it. Attention when she wanted it. And of course, the fun game of "scream really loud so it hurts your own ears and annoys you so you cry because it's annoying. But you don't realize you're the one causing yourself pain!".
Mathilda's parents were fairly easygoing none the less. Her father's father had merchant connections and when he got older, he passed it onto his son. Mathilda's parents ran the merchant troupe as well as they could, often bouncing between being on the rise and occasionally being on the drop. It wasn't until Mathilda was around 5 when her parents got lucky with a new business partner that rocketed them to "riches". The money was great and business was booming. The money was enough for her parents to "retire" to a nice little hamlet with friends and family while the business was kept afloat by key people her father trusted.
From that point on, her parents had much more time to spend with her and it was amazing. She had a fairly enjoyable childhood, able to learn how to read and write without issue. Learning arithmetic, some geography, and her FAVORITE subject, HISTORY! While some history was absolutely boring, anytime there was talk of war or heroes, she perked up and listened incredibly intently. Growing up, her favorite things to do was play Guardmen and Sahagin with her friends, read adventure books, and any time a stranger visited the hamlet to rest and recuperate, to pester them as much as possible for stories.
When Mathilda was in her double digits, the battle of carteneau had ended and, while an incredibly sad day for all those lost, her fathers business picked up a bit more instead of tanking. But clearly, the roads were weary with travelers and her father used some of that spare coin to build an inn for the hamlet for people to rest as they traveled by. Mathilda didn't quite understand what happened, but she was hushed away or pushed out whenever she'd try to ask a weary traveler if they were there. Or if they know what happened.
Her parents had hoped she would live a quiet life. Possibly travel to Gridania for more schooling or possibly to follow in her fathers shoes and learn the business. Maddie had other plans, by the time she was 15 she had already absorbed so many stories from adventurers, that she knew what she wanted to do. Dressed in her best "travel" clothes, Mathilda told her parents she was leaving to go on an adventure. This is when her parents reminded her that she could barely cut an orange without supervision, how could she defend herself? This is where Mathilda decided she needed something to defend herself with. And thanks to the Inn, she was able to ask many travelers what the best weapon would be.
It wasn't a difficult question. Her favorite stories always involved Dragons, the Dragoons, and of course, the snowy peaks of Ishgard. Something about the majesty of a land like Ishgard fascinated her. Many adventurers agreed too that a girl her size and stature would benefit from a weapon like a spear. Plus...it was easy to pick up a stick or broom and start pretending it was a spear and swinging it around.
By the time she was 17, Mathilda had made her mind up. She absolutely wanted to travel. But her parents begged and pleaded her to wait until she was 18. At LEAST give them time to better prepare her. But the impulse young girl was still a freebird and it was only 7 or so months into her 17th year that she decided she didn't want to wait 5 more months and packed her bags early.
Mathilda has only been on the road for a short time. She hasn't learned too much, but what she had learned it kept in a journal on her persons. She's been to Limsa Lominsa a few times, but most of her travels have kept her in the smaller towns and villages surrounding it. Places she can do small jobs for a bit of gil to help her with places to sleep or food.

Commonly heard

"Oh, the flighty girl with light brown hair? I saw her attempt to take a running leap off the Skylift before realizing it was suicide and clinging to the railing for dear life. Kind of a spaz, that one" - Summerford Farmhand
"She is a bit...dense at times. She listens and absorbs information like a sponge, but when trying to apply it, she gets confused and...Well I turned her down when she asked me to mentor her." - Lancer townsmen
"I think her family is fairly well off. Not rich or anything, but they make good money as merchants. No clue why she's running around trying to get 'erself slain by a beastie." - Drowning Wench Patron

Occasionally heard

"Now don't go tellin' people, but I heard her family actually sent her away. Apparently she fell in love with a rival merchants son and the only way to avoid spilling blood was to send her away." - Moraby Dockhand
"I heard she actually found someone to mentor her once. Nice guy who was sweet with all of the ladies. He wasn't typically one to mentor anyone, but I swear I saw her going into his room on more than one occasion. We all know how she got training in handling a 'haft' hahah!" - Gold Saucer - Bunny Girl
"Aye! I remember that lass! Ooh if you wanna see some funny shite, just pour her a glass of ale and tell her it's honeyed water o' somethin. She canno 'andle her drink. Dances like me girls back 'ome. Nice girl though" - Drowning Wench Patron

Rarely heard

"Mmm, Mathilda Browne eh. I looked into her background, a bit. She hails from a hamlet in Eastern Limsa. Her family settled down there after a mess with her fathers merchant company. Apparently his daughter mangled a kid with a spear, punched a hole right through his lung while they were playing. According to some of the townsfolk, it mentally broke the girl and she doesn't recall it at all." - Parker - Limsan Private Investigator
