The Basics

§ Name §

Moengeim Fraefyrwyn = (Moon + Jewel) (Daughter of Free Fire)
Pronounced "Moon+Gh+ime" "Free+feer+ween"

Goes by Fraefyrwyn
Moengeim strongly dislikes her first name. So, as often as possible, she prefers to go by her surname, Fraefyrwyn, rather than her first name. Though, thanks to her father's not-so-shiny reputation, doing so can cause general reactions of mistrust among seasoned Yellowjackets.

Nicknames and Aliases
  • Frae = prounounced “free” or “fray” depending on the addressee's dialect. Both pronunciations are acceptable.
  • Moe = pronounced "mohe" or "moo" depending on the addressee's dialect. Both pronunciations are acceptable – as long as no cattle jokes are cracked.

§ Appearance §

At roughly 6’11.5”, Fraefyrwyn stands about 2 ilms taller than the average Roegadyn woman and nearly 4 ilms shorter than the average Roegadyn man.

She, like most Roegadyn, has a solid, muscular frame. However, hers looks more like it’s been built for speed rather than brute strength. Her muscles sit high and tight, coiled like springs, as ready to launch her body across the terrain as they are to hurl a spear at a distant target.

Born beneath the shine of the second moon, Moengeim is thought to bear some resemblance to the governing goddess of that moon: Menphina, the Lover. Nowhere is this more evident than in her physical appearance. Soft curves pair with her athletic build to create a divine figure of sensual strength and grace.

Her eyes, once as dark as the emerald depths of the sea, are now unmatched. Mysterious, pale magical scarring cross her right eye from its inner corner to mid-cheekbone, the bulk of which is poorly concealed by a pair of blocky, pale, traditional Sea Wolf tattoos. The eye itself has been leached of color and can be quite shocking at first glance.

Numerous callouses darken the skin on her hands from years of fishing, manning a ship, wielding spears, and performing various other daily tasks.

At a glance
  • Height: On the tall side for a female Roegadyn
  • Weight: Average
  • Physique: Lithe, muscular build
  • Hair: Pale seafoam dreadlochs, almost white
  • Eyes: Pale, colorless right eye, dark green left eye
  • Scars: Pale, magical scarring over her right eye
  • Tattoos: Pale, traditional Sea Wolf markings across and below her right eye, covers much of the scarring
  • Skin: Mid-tone green, pale freckles
  • Clothing: Favors dark leather
Physical Limitations

Partial Blindness: The attack that left her with a scarred face also robbed her of vision in her right eye. The dull, pale orb is virtually useless and can keep her from being very helpful in tasks that require keen eyes... Or so she tells people. Whether or not it’s true, well – that’s up for you to decide.

Physical Advantages

Speed: Moengeim is a very fast, proficient runner with quick reflexes. When going up against another from her race in a match of speed she nearly always wins. It’s unlikely, however, that she would be more agile than those of typically quick-footed race.
Strength: She, like most Roegadyn, has an extra measure of strength at her disposal. Compared to most other races, she's quite strong. Compared to her own, however, she's about average.

§ Personality §

  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral/Good
  • Myers-Briggs Model: ESTP

Boisterous, pithy, and with an effusive laugh that can hook the attention of folks near and far; Frae is a gal with an indomitable presence that's tough to miss. She can be characterized as a woman of firsts: the first to crack a joke no matter how inappropriate. The first to say what needs sayin' no matter how uncomfortable. The first the charge into the fray no matter how foolhardy. All the while, a sly smile never far from her lips.

One sometimes gets the impression that there's some deeper motive behind the graveled charms of her facade. That, perhaps, she's looking for something and that each bit of personal information offered brings her one step closer to finding it. When under the sharp focus of her attention one can feel studied to the point of discomfort, finding her gaze too revealing, too knowing; as if no secret can be hidden from her sights.

She is loud, headstrong, gregarious, opinionated, and fiercely independent; preferring to feign indifference, or even outright opposition, rather than admit that she's on anyone's team… even if she does quietly aid "team" efforts on the side. She is a constant roamer, never staying in one place for long if she can help it.

And, yet, there's a subtle sense of innocence about her. She trusts far too quickly, easily drawn in and fascinated by the quirks and personalities of others. She can be optimistic to a fault, sometimes approaching unstable situations with too much faith. And, she's prone to an almost childlike excitability that only adds to her instinct to rush ahead.

Above all, Frae is a seeker of truth, stopping at nothing to get it.

Ironic, considering that she hardly ever tells the truth.

History

§ In a nutshell §

Born in Aleport to a dishonest, but charming, sailor (Fraefyr Zirnzoengsyn) and the beautiful, but adulterous, wife of a Yellowjacket Captain (Styrbluom Wyznelakwyn), Frae swears that she was always meant for controversy. When Moengeim was born, Styrbluom chose to leave her husband, Ostulm, to be with Fraefyr instead. And, so, the Yellowjackets, who had already had an eye on Fraefyr out of habit, downright targeted him from then on out.

Her mother died young leaving her to her father's care and to the distant, but lovingly watchful, eye of her half-brother, Sylbfohc, who was some 16 years older. Unwilling to leave his sailing life behind, her father commonly left Moengeim to be cared for by his favorite barmaids and tavern wenches of Aleport. They weren't all too happy about the arrangement but he paid them well so they obliged, eventually putting the kid to work in the seaside taverns. He would return periodically with gifts for his daugher and wild stories of his adventures. Moengeim hero worshipped her father and dreamt of a life at sea. However, Sylbfohc, now a Yellowjacket himself, was not impressed.

Frae adored her half-brother — a feeling that was mutual despite the complications that their shared, and broken, parentage created. Sylbfohc would spend as much time with her as he could without overstepping her father's rule. Eventually, Sylb's lady-friend, Ojene, took a prominent role in Frae's life as well. Frae was fascinated by the fierce, but warm, dark-skinned warrior woman who fought so hard against the expectations that her duskwight parentage fostered. Ojene gave this unwanted scrapper of a kid hope — perhaps she could grow up to be something more than what people expected her to be, too. It wasn't long before Moengeim teasingly refered to Ojene as Sylb's "wifey" much to her dismay. Moengeim was devestated when Ojene left some years later on a what was supposed to be a short mission to help the Ala Mhigan's with their plight, never to return.

At 10 years old her father decided that she was ready to join him at sea. Moengeim was ecstatic! The countless tales and gifts from her father over the years had inflated her sense of adventure and longing for the sea. More than anything, she wanted to get out there and see it all for herself — even better if she could do it with her father. There was no person in the whole world whom she admired more than her grinning bastard of a father. She joined his crew as cabin boy (girl).

Having spent so many of her early years among sailors and drunks, she found that she was able to charm the crew with ease – even the stoniest of men unable to resist the charisma of the skinny, tough-talking, cussin', spittin' 10-year-old lass who took them under her wing with as much care as a nagging matron did with a band of lost boys. They just couldn't help but love her. They became like older brothers, many of them teaching her new things, all of them keeping a watchful eye over her. As years passed, she climbed the crew ranks and learned new skills, chief among them whaling, combat, and naval carpentry.

When she was 19 she left her father's crew and struck out on her own, exploring Eorzea and finding work when and where she pleased. Eventually she took up a trade in selling secrets that became increasingly lucrative as the war against the Garlean Empire began to reach its peak.

When the Calamity struck she capitalized on the needs and fears of the population and earned herself a significant amount of gil. Secrets never sell better than in times of war and hardship, after all.

Timeline
  • 1548 age 0: Born in Aleport to a charming, law-breaking sailor and the fair wife of a Yellowjacket Captain whose beauty was locally renowned. Her birth is a local scandal!
  • 1552 age 4: Mother dies, leaving her in the care of her father, who in turn leaves her to the care of barmaids and tavern wenches while he's at sea.
  • 1553 age 5: Her half-brother gains a new friend, Ojene, a duskwight woman with whom she forms a rather close relationship. Ojene helps Sylbfohc keep an eye on the kid despite not having formal custody over her.
  • 1554 age 6: Her formal caregivers put her to work in the taverns, giving her easy tasks that'll keep her out of their hair.
  • 1556 age 8: She begins to notice the tales circulating about Ala Mhigo and Theodorac but has a mind too full of childhood fantasies to dedicate much thought to the topic. She learns spear fishing and daydreams about wild scenarios in which she goes to sea and, in a feat of astonishing skill, slays a vicious sea monster, thus, saving the world!
  • 1557 age 9: Ojene leaves. Moengeim feels abandoned and lashes out to those closest to her.
  • 1558 age 10: Joins her father's crew as a cabin boy (girl). Sylbfohc is not happy.
  • 1562 age 14: Proves to have quite the knack for carpentry! The crew's on hand naval carpenter starts training her. Also, as war reshapes the crew's trade routes, other members take it upon themselves to teach Moengeim how to do more than just fish with the spear of hers. She begins to learn combat skills.
  • 1563 age 15: Is just as beautiful as her mother had been if not moreso. Which is infuriating. She decides to discard the name "Moengeim" in favor of "Frae."
  • 1567 age 19: The sahagin become increasingly aggressive and begin to attack on land and sea. Now skilled enough in battle, and favoring a trident over a spear, she returns inland to work as a hired mercenary in defense of Western La Noscea. Around that same time, her half-brother's father, Ostulm, is killed in one of the sahagin attacks and the long-lost Ojene reappears!
  • 1571 age 23: Establishes a career in odd-jobs, mercenary work, & carpentry.
  • 1572 age 24: THE CALAMITY
  • 1573 age 25: Adds selling and trading secrets and moving illegal goods to her repertoire of odd jobs

§ Recently §

However, buying and selling secrets can come at a price. Two years ago her father nearly went mad, claiming that cultists where after him. Frae found him locked away in a prison cell, raving. More restless and wide-eyed than she'd ever seen him.

At first she didn't believe him, but within days she caught a pair of cloaked men over his body, cruel daggers in hand. Skilled as she was, Frae was able to fight them off, killing one while the other escaped with injury. Her father died in her arms.

A year later she began to notice people following her. Fearing for her safety, she reached out to her half-brother, Sylbfohc, who was now in his 40s and a Captain in the Maelstrom. She figured if anyone could keep her safe it'd be him. Exasperated, Sylb agreed to let her stay with him, warning her not to steal anything.

Within weeks, the robed men had caught up to her attacking in the dead of night while Sylb was out. He returned in time to catch the tail end of a fierce struggle, Frae refusing to go down without a fight. Enraged, he fought the robed men off, raising enough of an alarm in his area to draw attention. The attackers fled, leaving Moengeim half-dead on the floor, her beautiful face ruined.

Now, fully recovered, she returns to the life she had before; newly wary, suspicious, and untrusting. Forever keeping a careful eye (and only one, the other now blind) on her surroundings. Still hunted but with no idea why.

If only she would keep to the shadows like she should.

In recent years
  • 1575 age 27: Father dies in her arms after he's attacked by a mysterious group of cloaked men.
  • 1576 age 28: She begins to suspect that she'd being followed by these same men though she has no idea why. She seeks protection from her half-brother, Sylbfohc (now an honorable Captain in the Maelstrom), who reluctantly agrees.
  • 1576 age 28: Her stalkers catch up to her and attack. Sylbfohc interferes before they get a chance to kill her, however she's in critical condition. It takes nearly a year to fully recover.
  • 1577 current in-game year, age 29: Now fully recovered, she returns to the life she knew before the attack. Or tries to.

Socially

§ Religious/Spiritual Beliefs §

Moengeim clings to her devotion to The Twelve like an italian mobster to catholicism — no matter what crimes she commits or violence she participates in, she will bend a knee to them in devout prayer, completely blind to her own hypocrisy.

Her patron Deity is Llymlaen, the Navigator. She participates in the annual pilgrimage of Llymlaen's Descent almost every year.

§ Political Alignment §

Grand Company

ICly unaffiliated to persevere independence.

However, she does have a habit of helping out the Maelstrom from time to time — indirectly, of course! And never in ways that can be traced back to her.

Other Nations

As long as they don't try to control her or take away her independent freedoms, she's got no qualms with them.

The Beast Tribes

In general, Frae has no love for the beast tribes and has no problem voicing it.

IC Free Company/IC Linkshells

ICly unaffiliated to persevere independence.

However, she does pick up an awful lot of extra work from seafaring folk, especially in the ways of naval carpentry. Not one to mingle much with overly law-abiding types, she's been known to frequent vessels whose colors fly independently of the Maelstrom. Mercenaries, private traders, pirates...

§ Biases §

Ratial

None, but she sure does like to give Miqo'tes a hard time. Cat jokes abound! If she can manage to get a tail yank in there, too, all the better.

Social Class

Tends to be suspicious of people who are too well-dressed.

Political

None that she'll share. Political secrets, after all, tend to beg the highest price.

Religious/Spiritual

People who, in her eyes, show a lack of respect for The Twelve.

§ Rumors §

Common

  • "She's a skirt-chaser, that one."
  • "She used ter be quite the beaut'. It's a right shame about her face – don't reckon I know anyone else who got themself shot in the eye an' lived ter tell the tale, though."

Moderate

  • "Skirt-chaser? Naaah. I seen 'er with a different bloke each week. I swear it!"

Rare

  • "You know she ruined her own eye, right? Caught the attention of a dangerous man with that beauty of hers, she did. He wanted to claim her as his own – but she wouldn't have it. Independent as the wind, that one. Anyroad, she decided beauty was too confining, so she got rid of it."

Availability Usually 6pm and later on weeknights, open on weekends.

I'm an artist and a writer, though, so I tend to pop in and out of game around whatever projects I'm working on IRL. Sometimes I don't log in for days at a time. But, if you make plans with me, I'll be there!

RP preferences I'm happy to roll with just about any RP style! Silly lighthearted fluffery to serious heavy themes. Language, innuendos, and dark themes don't bother me at all.

I'm a very inclusive person by nature and I loooove to RP with new people. So, say hi! :D

Major acts of violence against my character should be discussed ahead of time and, unless we decide otherwise, will be decided via roll systems. I won't accept the IC death of my character without my prior consent.

While me characters do tend to sleep around, I don't ERP. Fades are preferred!
