This character article or section of a character article is a stub -- a small, but growing, work in progress. If you're the creator of this character, why not consider expanding it?

Qaratai Hotgo (Qara Hotgo in-game) is a young courier from an Au Ra Xaela tribe that is all but destroyed. When she lived in Othard, she was responsible for delivering important messages and parcels for her tribe. She would journey on horseback to other tribes, and deliver messages on the battlefield. She rarely took part in direct warfare, but has survived a few skirmishes with those who wanted to stop her deliveries. Overall, she is inexperienced, but she is brave and adaptable.

In the present, she journeys across Eorzea to find lost Hotgo, and supports the peoples of the new homeland. She is too young and ignorant to know what her future may hold, but she seeks to make a life for herself. If there is anything left of the Hotgo tribe, she will find it. She currently works as a Freelance High-priority Courier who will take on messenger jobs even the Moogles may not be willing or able to accomplish.

General Appearance

Qara has skin tanned by the sun with hair darker than her scales and horns. Blue highlights in her hair display her spirit color, and her deep red eyes have contrasting blue limbal rings. She is a bit on the tall side for female Au Ra, but still short compared to the peoples of other races. Scales are abundant on her neck and chin. However, the skin on her face can sometimes been seen with markings and smudges of paint. She preserves her tribe's cultural practice of displaying her moods with the use of colorful face paints; each color having a different meaning.

Character Music

Qara is often shy and quiet despite her job. The most vibrant displays of emotions from the girl are often in the form of her face paint she uses to display her moods. Her reserved personality hides an inner curiosity and desire to be social. She will often find awkward ways to force herself into a social situations -if- she feels safe doing so. In the instance someone gets her to open up, she can be quite talkative and friendly. However, getting her to open up may take time or effort.

While Qara takes her duties and job very seriously, her ability to accept having fun may need encouraging. She is often focused on work, and will not let fear stop her from doing her job. Beyond that, she has much to learn.

Qara's Colors

Different colors of face paint have different meanings for Qara. Once someone gets to know her, they'll begin to see the colors almost like another form of body-language.

Colors
Blue
Qara's spirit color. She wears it when she feels her best, and most confident.
Black
Her rage color. She wears it when preparing to fight, or when she gets angry.
Red
Her love color. Be it platonic or romantic, she'll wear red when her passion grows strong.
Green
Her joy color. Not to be confused with blue, green is applied when she feels innocent happiness.
Yellow
Her sadness color. She doesn't like to show her sadness despite what she was taught, but she'll often wear it to help show sympathy for the suffering of another.
Purple
Anger and confidence combined. This rarely-used color is righteous fury.
White
Her diplomatic color. She wears this to make amends, or show that she will remain peaceful.
Pink
Her humility color. She wears it to show when she is embarrassed, or bashful. However, she rarely sees fit to paint these emotions on her face; despite feeling them often.
Orange
Her fear color. She only really wears it as a display of caution to others. Not all instances of fear will have her painting her face orange.

Because paint colors change shades due to drying and whether, she does not use different shades of the same colors to represent variations of her general emotions. Instead, she usually marks the strongest emotions she is feeling in a general sense. These marks are simple smudges or lines. Only in ceremonies does she make coherent symbols on her face using the paints.

The paints do not replace facial expressions or body language for her. They are used for emotional honesty and clarity as taught by her culture.

Qara was never expected to be a warrior. However, the danger of her job made it necessary for her family to train her in sword combat. She has trained with the use of one-handed and two-handed swords since childhood, so she knows how to fight with them well enough, but has been involved in very few direct battles. Despite her low experience, she aspires to be liberator and protector. She is a young prodigy who has yet to fully discover what she can become, and she wants to one day use power she gains to protect those with less power. She wants to be a knight of the people.

She may need a mentor to advance her training.
