Character

Basic History

S'janna Rahz is the daughter of S'lanihn Vahri by S'Rahz Nunh, but never had the opportunity to meet her father. Before she was born, her mother chose to run off with S'khori Tia and a handful of other younger Miqo'te of the tribe in order to form their own community around S'khori as nunh. Thus, S'janna was born into a tiny, poorly prepared family group with an overabundance of youth and a severe shortage of wisdom. Still, the small tribe endured, though it could never truly be said to prosper, despite S'khori taking his duties as nunh seriously. S'janna was the youngest child of the old tribe's nunh, and yet the first child born to the new tribe, and never quite felt as though she fit in. It didn't help that, as a young child, she often claimed to see things that weren't there- spirits, animals, other things that no one else ever saw.

Because she was the oldest of her generation, S'janna tended to act a bit bossy with the other children, something that the nunh- who had also placed himself as leader of the small band- took notice of but never addressed. Still, she had a very strong respect for authority and tradition, and was very dedicated to helping her people thrive. Because of the shortage of able bodies, she and the other children learned to hunt at a very young age. She was neither the strongest nor the smartest of the young hunters, but many would agree that she was the most clever, and she was often able to bring down difficult prey by outwitting it, rather than outfighting it.

When she grew to adolescence, though, she became involved in an illicit romance with a boy a few years older than she- a tia. She knew it was against tradition, but she was very infatuated with the boy, and after all, hadn't her own mother become enamored of a tia herself? She thought that surely the nunh, were they to be discovered. The young tia, though, understood the tribe's nunh somewhat better than S'janna, and tried to convince her to run off with him, much as her own mother had done. He wasn't really interested in becoming a nunh, but he very much wanted to start a life with S'janna somewhere. She balked, though, not wanting to run away from her tribe, or her family.

The tragedy that followed over the next several moons is one that S'janna to this day refuses to elaborate on. What is known is that S'janna fled the tribe, several moons pregnant with S'khori's child, and that she believed her dearest friend killed during a poorly planned challenge against the nunh. Her hunting skills enabled her to survive the harsh desert of her former home, as well as the trip to the coast. She gave birth to a son shortly after arriving at Limsa Lominsa via ferry and finally stopped running, convinced that her former tribe would not follow her so far, if indeed they had at all. It was also a very difficult birth, made harder by her youth, malnourishment, and slight stature, and she spent nearly two moons simply recovering.

Now, she works odd jobs in the poorer sections of Limsa Lominsa, doing her best to provide for herself and her infant son, S'anjha. She spent some of the time following her recovery trying to educate herself, and is very proud of the fact that she is now able to read. She also has some aptitude for magic, as evidenced by the minor healing magics she can produce despite a lack of formal training. However, she has become concerned by the fact that the visions she once had as a child seem to have returned- something she has yet to share with anyone.

Appearance

S'janna is of average height, but slight of build for a female Miqo'te Seeker of the Sun. Her eyes are a bright blue- like the ocean, she says, and a gift from her father, Rahz Nunh, and her hair a very pale blond. Her face still carries a hint of youthful roundness, though faded through malnutrition. She shares in her mother's dark skin and delicate, dextrous hands. Despite her poor health, S'janna is still acknowledged as quite a pretty girl.

Behavior

Once a friendly and even outgoing child, S'janna is now fairly withdrawn and quiet. She keeps to herself and tends to work in silence, only speaking when necessary. She does not socialize and has no real friends in Limsa Lominsa. She is acquainted with some of the people living nearby, mainly due to having helped many of them with some task or another. It's obvious to any who interact with her for even a short while that she carries a great sadness, one she can not or will not let go of. She only smiles for her son. She seems to have little liking for menfolk, but also appears to have no attraction towards women.

Combat

General

S'janna is a poor combatant. She knows a smattering of magic, including some spells that might be able to be used offensively, but she'd stand little chance in a real fight. She is a modestly capable hunter, though, mainly through being able to outsmart her prey. She is on the low side of average for the expected strength of a female Miqo'te Seeker of the Sun- not weak enough to be truly notable, but certainly not as strong as many. Her dietary deficiencies only heighten the difference between her current physical abilities and where they ought to be.

She has some basic weapons training, but even that merely extends to tools used in the hunt- spears, bows, and knives, primarily, and even then she's never used any of them on a sentient being.

Tendencies

Likes

  • Dancing. She claims to have been the best dancer of her tribe, though none of her current acquaintances have ever seen her dance.
  • Reading. Ever since she taught herself to read, she's devoured any source of reading material she can get her hands on. Of course, as destitute as she is, her finding anything beyond a city notice or some such is a rare occurrence.
  • Her magic. Despite not really being able to do anything with it beyond some very basic healing and the like, S'janna is fascinated by her magic, and inwardly very proud that she has come as far as she has without any formal training.
  • The ocean. S'janna is utterly fascinated by it, and often is caught staring at it for long stretches of time.

Dislikes

  • Hyur men. She claims that she doesn't like the way they stare at her, though in reality, very few truly do stare at her. This is mostly a learned prejudice from her mother, who had brought her up to believe that all Hyur men desire Miqo'te mates.
  • Tribal lifestyle (or so she claims). In reality, it's not so much the traditional lifestyle of the Seekers that bothers her as it is her own small tribe's interpretation of it. The fact that she hasn't abandoned her tribal name gives proof to the lie of her dislike of tribal ways.
  • Crowds. She grew up in a very small tribe that led a nomadic lifestyle, so the large press of people in the city unnerves her, even after several moons of living there.

Hobbies/Talents

  • Cooking. S'janna loves to cook, and any time she has an excess of decent food (which is rare, but sometimes she has good fortune with fishing, or one of her odd jobs pays well) she will often cook it all up with different spices and share it around.
  • Reading. As mentioned above, she will read whatever she can get her hands on, whenever she can find the time.

Other

  • S'janna secretly hopes that she'll some day meet her father, though she knows this to be a foolish and unlikely hope.
  • She is focused almost exclusively on raising her son; she seems to have no other goals besides S'anjha's well-being.

Relationships

Family

S'janna has a fairly large extended family. She has never met any of her father's kin, aside from the few youth that he had sired who came along with her mother when they broke away from the main tribe. She has an older sister whom she very obviously adores, and two younger brothers that, for all her complaints, she also very much loves and misses. S'janna claims to be estranged from her mother, though grudgingly admits to having once been quite loving towards her if pressed. She also dotes on her nieces and nephews, and misses them as well. She has a son, S'anjha, who is still a baby and is the center of S'janna's world. She has very little good to say of S'anjha's father, S'khori Nunh (or S'khori Tia, as she's taken to calling him, claiming him unworthy of being nunh).

Friends

She once had a very close friend in her tribe, and her budding relationship with him has directly or indirectly led to her current circumstances. She refuses to elaborate on exactly how everything played out, but it is clear she believes him to be dead, and she herself has fled from her tribe. She has no contact with any of her other friends from the tribe, and has not grown close to anyone from Limsa Lominsa.

Enemies

S'janna claims to hate S'khori, but even that is a distant thing- she has no plans of confronting him or otherwise trying to do him harm. Indeed, were he to find and confront her, the most aggressive act she'd likely take would be to shout, or flee. She has no one else that she could or would call an enemy.

Rumors

Common Rumors

  • "Yeah, I've seen her around. Pretty little thing- though she ought to eat more- always toting that baby around wherever she goes."
  • "Hard worker, that one. I've had her fill in a few times when I was short a man, and she never shirks, even if it looks like she'd be bowled over by a strong wind."
  • "S'janna? That little blond Miqo'te, right? Yeah, I know her. She helped my wife give birth last moon. Without her healing magic, we might have lost my wife and baby both."

Moderate Rumors

  • "I see her staring off at the ocean sometimes. Don't know what for, but she's always surprised when someone manages to distract her from it."
  • "Went by her place one night to ask her a favor, and heard someone crying. I thought it was her kid at first, but when I realized it was her, I just left her alone. What? I don't know her that well, what was I going to do?"
  • "Y'know, she looks awfully sad most of the time, but I did see her smile once. I guess her baby did something to make her laugh. It's a nice smile. She should use it more often."

Rare Rumors

  • "One time when she was helping out at the docks, I saw her staring off at nothing. Well, not nothing... she obviously saw something even if no one else did- her eyes, you see, they were following whatever it was across the sky. She denied seeing anything, though, said it was nothing. Weird girl, that one."
  • "Keep an eye on that one. She's a thief. I saw her swipe from fruit from a stand two moons ago. My wife convinced me not to tell the Yellowjackets, said the girl had no one and nothing, but that don't make her less of a thief in my eyes."
  • "S'janna? She ran away almost a cycle ago. Why? Do you know where she is? A lot of people are worried about her, even after everything that happened. She was carrying the nunh's baby, but a few people here think it wasn't his- not that it's anyone's business but her's and the nunh's. I don't know if that's true or not anyway. Just what a few of the tias were saying after she left."
