Appearance

At full height Selthrana stands at 5'7", weighing around 125 lbs. She has generally Mediterranean features with olive skin, long, dark straight hair, dark blue eyes, thick eyebrows and a snub nose. Her face is often devoid of much expression, except for the sharpness in her eyes which can seem intimidating. Her jawline is a little too angular to have what one could describe as conventional beauty, but she is not particularly ugly either. On the rare occasion when she smiles, her features can be rather appealing.

Her body language is often closed-off, standing straight with frequently folded arms.

Personality

Upon first meeting Selthrana, she would come across as distant or reserved at best, and at worst stuck up and unsympathetic. This is largely due to her general lack of expressiveness, with the occasional exception of a wry smirk or a single crooked eyebrow. She has little patience for whining or drama and likes to keep to the point. Not one to sugar-coat, she will speak her mind clearly whether or not what she has to say is pleasant. Her humor is sarcastic enough that it may not be clear when she is joking, may seem like she is intentionally being harsh. Nevertheless, she can be quite kind and gentle when the occasion calls for it, and if she gets to know someone well enough they will likely see past her course exterior.

At the heart of much of her tendency to be unsociable is her lack of trust of other people, not a dislike for them. Far from it, she cares for people and wants to help those in need, but she is willing to be the firm voice of reason or to show tough love if she deems it necessary. Inquiries into her past will be met with vague, hand wave replies. Getting close to her is no easy task and requires direct, careful effort on the other person's part.

Among her core beliefs is an objective sense of right and wrong, but she is ever watchful to overly categorize given circumstances. She sees the grey fields between the black and white most clearly, and is quick to point them out to anyone who sees one extreme or the other. Poetic justice is often of more value to her than due process justice, but she will not go out of her way to hinder the law. She will often stand as a balance in any argument or confrontation, looking deeper into motivations and complications rather than surface value of the facts.

Affiliations

Currently, she has allied herself with Aethertide Ventures, helping them...do whatever they do.

Friends

When she finds a place to settle down for long enough, and the right people come along, maybe one day.

The person she is closest to now is Khyran Oisin.

Abilities

Selthrana is an arcanist who uses an extensive knowledge of alchemy to combine formulas from both disciplines to enhance both. Much of her research is independent, exploring unconventional uses of aether and alchemical recipies, especially in the field of biochemistry. Her current abilities are as follows (list subject to change as I gather more lore to work with/come up with ideas that work within given boundaries):

Illusion: can use her aether to manipulate surroundings to appear different. Conversely, she can inject someone with a potion that will create an illusion only in their mind. The first is more draining, but she doesn’t have to get close to her target and affects everyone within the manipulated area. The second is less draining but can only affect one person per injection, and she has to get close enough.

Drain: She can tap directly into someone’s aether and can use it to replenish her own, but the net gain is relatively small. The other option is that she can inject someone with a potion that will drain and store their aetherial energy which can then be used herself or for someone else. Net gain obviously larger.

She can manipulate the properties of matter to some degree, but it is an incredibly draining process and cannot be used or sustained for more than about a minute.

Spoiler notice: The following contains spoiler information. Proceed at your own risk.

Buried in her subconscious is a summon for a powerful voidsent that can quickly drain aether and form aetherial cages. She is not aware of this ability and it can be triggered under the right stressful circumstances.

End Spoilers

She carries several inscribed gems that summon unique carbuncles:

Sapphire: summons a vicious, four-legged, four-armed creature that can supercharge its limbs with spikes that can reach a length of up to 9ft and pierce steel.

Jadeite: a muscle-bound little fellow adept for sustained application of strength (carrying/pushing/pulling heavy weight)

Potions she can make:

Healing

Specialized inks that enhance her arcanima.

Poisons

Truth serum

Mental clarity

Relaxation

She almost constantly carries around a satchel filled with potions and other useful items

Current contents of satchel:

3 Potions for healing injuries (can take a while, merely speed up the body's natural mending processes)

3 Potions for killing bacteria and viruses

2 Potions for enhancing mental clarity

2 Potions for aiding relaxation/sleep

2 Potions for increased energy (tend to have bad crashes after wearing off)

3 Separate vials for specialized inks to enhance arcanima (one for healing factors, one for damaging organic matter, one for manipulation of matter)

1 Vial for storing drained aether

1 Syringe

1 Roll of bandages

Background

Note: Selthrana's past is very personal to her and would not be open to discussion except under extraordinary circumstances. I'm posting this for OOC information, but you might enjoy trying to get to this juicy information IC.

The most significant part of Selthrana's background is her upbringing. She was born into a bloodthirsty cult known as the Lambs of Dalamud. They worshiped the lesser moon Dalamud as a deity bringing in the new era, offering blood sacrifices, until it was brought down. Following its destruction, they have become all the more savage to avenge their fallen god. Selthrana was used by her father, who taught her much of her unconventional knowledge of arcanima, to lure and trap innocents to be used in sacrifice.

Spoiler notice: The following contains spoiler information. Proceed at your own risk.

He taught her to summon a voidsent, as it is a relatively common practice among the Lambs. This ability was buried in her subconscious and was to be used by a trigger from her father.

End Spoilers

Her whole life was one of fear, suffering continual abuse and entrapment. Her father controlled everything about her. She sometimes got to know some of the captured people who were to be sacrificed, writing down their name, age and race, and if possible home, so she could find their families later to let them know what happened. Through these brief encounters she learned of life in the outside world and swore to find a way there. At the age of seventeen she managed an escape, poisoning one of the cult leaders and disappearing during the uproar so it would take longer for her absence to be noticed. The first place she came to that she stayed for an extended period of time was Gridania, finding the aura of the place more peaceful than anything she had experienced before.

She has since traveled, not staying in one place for long. She would always try to leave having done some good for the people there, and most of all with some information about the families of the victims of the Lambs.
