Known to most Ishgardians as Lancel of house Deschaines, Caelum is in truth a scion of an influential noble house of Garlemald, which in turn owes its loyalties to the mighty house Baelthar. The son of a Garlean Tribunus laticlavius and a half-Garlean sorceress (Imaginifier), he attracted the attention of Lydia wir Baelthar upon being orphaned due to the untimely deaths of both his parents at a young age. A friend of his mother, and matriarch of house Baelthar, she adopted the young male and his brethren, and ensured that he would continue to receive an education afforded to a select few even in Garlemald.

As Emperor Solus zos Galvus's took a turn for the worse, Lydia insisted that the youth take up residence in Ishgard, and secured a position for him within the Ishgardian house Deschaines, and by extension, brought him under the service of house Dzemael. He has since developed his skills in the art of battle and enlisted in the countless skirmishes Ishgard has waged against the Dravanian horde.

Recently, he made the acquaintance of Graeham Ridgefield. The two men have come to realise they share a strong rapport and have taken up a ceremony of Eternal Bonding, cementing their fealty to one another. It remains unclear what Caelum's thoughts are of his adoptive mother.
