Known to most Ishgardians as Lancel of house Deschaines, Caelum is in truth a scion of an influential noble house of Garlemald, which in turn owes its loyalties to the mighty house Baelthar. The son of a Garlean Tribunus laticlavius and a half-Garlean sorceress (Imaginifier), he attracted the attention of Lydia wir Baelthar upon being orphaned due to the untimely deaths of both his parents at a young age. A friend of his mother, and matriarch of house Baelthar, she adopted the young male and his brethren, and ensured that he would continue to receive an education afforded to a select few even in Garlemald.
As Emperor Solus zos Galvus's took a turn for the worse, Lydia insisted that the youth take up residence in Ishgard, and secured a position for him within the Ishgardian house Deschaines, and by extension, brought him under the service of house Dzemael. He has since developed his skills in the art of battle and enlisted in the countless skirmishes Ishgard has waged against the Dravanian horde.
Recently, he made the acquaintance of Graeham Ridgefield. The two men have come to realise they share a strong rapport and have taken up a ceremony of Eternal Bonding, cementing their fealty to one another. It remains unclear what Caelum's thoughts are of his adoptive mother.
Common Appearance: Due to his heritage, Caelum is blessed with a build that is larger than that of the average male midlander, standing just over 6ft3 tall, and in possession of a robust, well defined build. His skin is pale, but with a rosy tint. Two frigid spheres rest on either side of his sharp nose, the colour of the winter sky, serving as excellent complements to his ash blonde hair.
Voice: The youth has a deep, somewhat gruff voice, though his accent is polished and indicative of a refined background.
Clothing: When not seen in armour, Caelum tends to drape himself in Ishgardian fineries, suited to the realm's cold weather.

Caelum is not the most tolerant of individuals. He remains suspicious of the Au ra and their arrival in Ishgard, which coincided with the apogee of their war against Nidhogg. Although he is not hostile on sight, he will take time to warm to individuals of auri descent.
He has a very low opinion of Roegadyn and most Highlanders, evidenced through his dismissive attitude towards individuals of these races. He also regards most Duskwights as petty criminals.
That said, although Caelum is not himself religious, he knows well enough that he must put on the right airs to survive in Ishgard, and therefore holds his tongue on matters of doctrine.
