Appearance

As a testament to his tribe's focus on selective breeding Aruktai boasts a tall and exceptionally well built physique that is more often than not further enhanced by thick steel armour of a jet black hue. To some his appearance may come across as intimidating, especially when one considers the exotic nature of his horns and scales; both of which match the colour of his armour. Where there are no scales there is skin of a dark bronze hue. A pair of golden eyes study whatever is around him with a measure of intensity. Aruktai looks to be somewhere in his early to mid thirties. His mannerisms, stance and facial expressions can best be described as stern, stoic and humourless. He does not, however, appear to be antisocial or unfriendly.

Personality

Although not lacking in intelligence or skill with a blade it would not be a lie to consider Aruktai to be rather odd by Eorzean standards. Although it is clear that the Au Ra makes an effort to adjust to an Eorzean way of life he is set in his ways and continues to embrace many elements of his tribal upbringing. He has a habit of taking statements at face value nor does he appear to understand jokes even if they are at his expense. He is, however, fiercely protective of those who prove their worth to him...or whoever happens to hire him for a task.

Aruktai often speaks in an unusual manner - often voicing a desire for 'efficiency' and basing many of his actions around just that. To some this may come across as clinical, arrogant and frigid - though he ultimately means well even if he insists that he knows what is best for those around him.

History/Timeline

Aruktai was born and raised within a branch of the Olkund tribe that laid claim to various encampments situated throughout Othard's eastern reaches. From an early age he was taught how best to wield a sword and shield by his father - and so the Au Ra came to serve as both a hunter and a guardian for those who lived nearby. Often spending days at a time away from wherever his tribe pitched their tents he would return with a variety of fresh kills to aid in feeding and arming his brethren. When a group of Garlean soldiers decided to erect an outpost nearby in an effort to increase their influence over Othard, however, Aruktai returned from one of his trips to find that most of his people had been scattered and displaced. Those who sought to hold their ground had simply been slain.

Although Aruktai made an effort to reunite with his people he found himself increasingly fond of the idea of heading to Eorzea after hearing rumours about the continent's defiance when confronted by the same threat that his people had been forced to face. Although he attempted to convince his closest friends and family members to join him, however, he met little success and thus decided to venture to Eorzea alone. Knowing that he would need a great deal of coin to fund his journey he began to advertise his services as a mercenary to passing traders. After saving the life of a wealthy Ul'dahn merchant the Au Ra managed to persuade the man to allow him passage on a ship bound for Vylbrand.

Adjusting to life in Eorzea proved to be a consistently difficult affair. His height, physique and appearance ensured that he stood out in a crowd and many Eorzeans shunned him. After performing a number of odd jobs around Limsa Lominsa and the surrounding areas, however, Aruktai managed to pique the curiosity of a friendly blacksmith who created a sword, shield and suit of armour to replace the tribal equipment that the Au Ra had previously used. After a few more months spent in the region the urge to see more of Eorzea grew too much to bear and so Aruktai set off to the mainland.

He has since aligned himself with Clan Centurio, taking on contracts to deal with some of the nastier creatures that make Eorzea their home. More recently he has been spotted amidst the members of Aeon - a Free Company based within Ul'dah's residential district.
