History
Bartu was not born to as harsh of life as most of those living in the Azim Steppes.
It was an usually prosperous year and his parents were easily able to provide for him until his adulthood. He found himself called to something more than being a nomadic rancher with his parents, even during down the offer of several wives which were chosen for him. He joined a caravan that his tribe encountered when he was seventeen (17) with the permission of his parents and tribe leaders, given that he hadn’t taken a wife and the village leaders were starting to grumble over his “drain on the tribe”.
He worked as a guard member of the caravan for several years until word came to him that his father was killed during one of the migrations from a landslide. He returned home at twenty-two (22) and continued to care for his mother and assist the tribe in his father’s absence until he was twenty-five. During that time his fulfilled his obligation with the tribe and fathered several children but still never taking a wife, an agreement that he reached with the leaders that while he was not going to stay for much longer he still had an obligation to replenish the numbers of the tribe with his long hiatus and his father absence.
After ensuring his children were being raised by approved couples and were able to fend for themselves, he left the tribe at the age of twenty-seven (27) and joined another group of Xaela that were heading to Eorzea. The trip took two weeks longer than expected and by the time the ship pulled into port most of the members were dehydrated and hungry. Bartu passed out after only taking two steps off the boat due to giving up most of his water and food ration during that time to assist some of the children on board and took over a month to fully recover his strength. During that time, he met an old Roegadyn marauder who opened his home to care for the Xaela by the name of Dennharr who was on his last legs due to a recent skirmish with Empire forces.
The two became friends over the course of exchanging stories of combat and hardship and a week before Bartu left Dennharr’s home the roegadyn collapsed which required Bartu to return the favor to his host and care for him. Dennharr lasted only a few days more and with his last few hours of life coming rapidly he gave Bartu his prized axe as a way for him to start the path of becoming a marauder. Bartu stayed in the house briefly until Dennharr’s brother could come arrange the funeral and take over his estate and after a brief service Bartu left on his personal journey again.
