Character

Basics

Birthdate: 1st Astral Moon, 25th day, 1557

Age: 23 years old

Height: 5'3"

Weight: 130 lbs.

Appearance

Caelia is considered pale for someone from Thanalan considering she was born and raised there. She's not astoundingly tall or small for Hyur. One might say the sole truly remarkable feature she has is her large, dark blue eyes framed by black lashes. Her thick black hair is straight and carries past her shoulders. Her clothing appears plain though when she's not out in the field or working, she likes to wear bold colors that bring out her pale skin, black hair, and dark blue eyes to their best advantage. Her body is lithe and well toned from fighting.

History

Caelia was born in a small village near Ul'dah to an Immortal Flame Major named Caelus Isularie and his young wife, Israbel. Though they were far from wealthy, the two had, to all appearances, a profoundly happy marriage and Caelia grew up in a cocoon of stability. Her mother taught her to read and write from an early age and her father insisted that Caelia learn how to defend herself. Though Israbel argued the point of it, Caelus fully believed that it was essential and eventually got Caelia's mother to buckle under his constant pressure. As a result, Caelia also studied martial arts and to fight with the spear. While Israbel dug her heels in every chance she could get and even tried to convince Caelia that it was a useless skill, Caelia found that martial arts and her training was her passion.

In 1572, Caelia told her father she wanted to join the Immortal Flames with him. It was the first time she ever saw her father react so negatively to an idea and at first she didn't understand why he was so adamantly against it. "Join the Pugilist Guild instead," he told her, "I won't have you join my Company, Caelia. It's not for you and I can't have you do it. I won't allow it." However, as events with the Empire unfolded and the moon loomed closer, Caelia realized her father was afraid if she joined, she'd die in the events to follow. The prospect of seeing his daughter on the battlefield with him was a nightmare he couldn't allow to happen. The last time the whole family was together, Caelia told her father, quietly, that she'd decided to become a playwright instead. Theatre had always been another passion of hers, and her father and she had often gone to see various plays staged throughout Ul'dah during her childhood.

The relief that flooded her father's face made her understand how much the thought of her fighting alongside him had haunted him. She embraced him, kissed his cheek, and told him to come back soon. With a teenager's naivete, she fully believed nothing bad could happen to her father which made the Calamity that much worse when it hit.

The day the Calamity happened was pure hell. Caelia understood that her father was likely fighting at the Battle of Carteneau and found herself sleepless the night of. She watched as the moon drew closer with horror and found herself weeping when a piece of it seemingly broke off and plummeted somewhere in Eorzea. She was certain that it was the world's end and screamed for her mother just as Dalamud broke apart to reveal Bahamut. Frozen in terror, Caelia could only watch as the attempt to bind Bahamut failed and Eorzea was set on fire. As soon as debris began falling, the spell of her terror was broken and she fled, believing her mother was behind her. It was only later, when she huddled with survivors in a nearby cavern, that she realized she had arrived alone. Later searches for both her parents pulled nothing. She now believes her father died at the Battle of Carteneau and her mother must have been struck by one of Bahamut's attacks.

In the five years since then, Caelia has struggled to survive on her own. The ways that she managed to survive to full adult hood are not things she likes to talk about and she'll often either change the subject or boldface lie. She recently joined the Pugilist Guild and has resumed her dream of joining the Immortal Flames. However, she has never forgotten that look of relief on her father's face the day he left and also actively pursues becoming a playwright. She has written a few short plays, nothing spectacular, but now travels Eorzea gathering stories and thinking to weave them together in a moving piece that will eventually take place on the stage in Gridania.

Personality

Caelia is a quiet, solemn woman that tends to break this mold only after a good fight. She tends to keep to herself, more content to watch and observe than to get involved directly unless the situation pulls her chain. After a good fight, Caelia is happy, beaming from ear to ear, with a bounce in her step and a mischievous gleam in her eye. Post-fight Caelia is what one would expect she had been like before her parents were killed during the Calamity and before she got involved in Ul'dah's seedier parts in order to make a living. She seems emotionally unavailable and that might largely be because she's still traumatized from surviving the event five years ago. The things she's had to do since then have further hardened her shell and made reaching her emotionally a daunting task. This isn't to say she can't lighten up and enjoy herself at times (post-fight Caelia proves this) but it's rare enough because she's become a more intense person than she would have become if the Calamity had never happened. With time and developing friendships with others, this might be cured.

Caelia's sense of humor is one that is sarcastic and dark. If she likes someone, she'll make fun of them, trading barbs and teasing them without realizing that it might actually hurt their feelings. She loves irony and often things that would infuriate others just make her laugh. Watching a good comedic play can always lighten her mood and get her feeling talkative though the amounts of decent comedic plays offered around Ul'dah make it a hard task to fulfill.

Combat

General

Caelia's passion is fighting, particularly martial arts. She's been training in them since she was four years old and gets a natural high off of fighting. During a fight, she's more intense than usual, focusing solely on her opponent and nothing else. She considers strategy an integral part to any fight and takes it seriously. If she's ever severely wounded in a fight, she often works harder than ever (some would say desperately), often burning herself out trying to make a last second comeback.

If she loses, she tends to laugh it off, finding it humorous for some reason she can't explain to herself. She also likes to make a wager before a fight, the more ridiculous the better.

Relationships

Caelus Isularie: Father, deceased in 1572 at the Battle of Carteneau. An Immortal Flame officer, Caelia loved him dearly and idolized him. Unbeknownst to her, he was likely involved in Ul'dah's shadier sides.

Israbel Isularie: Mother, deceased in 1572, possibly from Bahamut's attack. Caelia's relationship with her mother could be exasperating at times but was otherwise rather positive. Her mother was the most adamant that she not get involved in fighting of any kind.

Other Notes

-Caelia's name is pronounced Kai-lee-ah. She was named after her father.
