Basic Info

Chorani is an abnormally short and shy mongrel. Her parentage is both Garlean and Xaelic.

History

Childhood and the Meteor Project

Chorani was born in Garlemald to a Imperial scientist and his purchased Xaela wife. At the age of eleven, she was sent off to a military academy in the Imperial Capital, as part of a new youth brigade. There, she was given training in conjury and barbery. Being that she is of a mixed parentage, she is quite capable of using Aether. At the age of 16, she was deployed in the Imperial Army, and assigned to the 10th Cohort of the VIIth Legion, under the command of Nael van Darnus. As many of us know, van Darnus' goal was to bring the second "moon" Dalamud down upon the land of Eorzea and wreak untold destruction. The members of her Legion were not told that they were to be sacrificed for the good of Garlemald, something Chorani found out to her utter dismay that fateful day at the Cartenau Flats. Speared through the leg by a novice lancer of the Flames, Chorani was left to die as Bahamut unleashed his wrath upon the land, and to this day the ugly burn scars on her back serve as a grim reminder that the Imperial Army saw her as mere fodder.

Another Refugee in the Crowd

In the aftermath of the Battle of Cartenau, she was found lying face down by a Flames Sergeant, her Imperial uniform conveniently charred beyond recognition. Realizing that the Imperial Army cared little for the value of her life, she decided to begin anew in Thanalan. The destruction her legion had wrought upon the land distressed young Chorani, who swore she would return to Garlemald when the time was right, to realize the vision of the Popularis. But until then, she would have to suffice with being one more hungry face in the crowds of refugees swarming Ul'dah.

Retainership

Three Twelvemoons after the Calamity, Chorani decided to apply with the Retainer Vocate after reading a poster, and was summarily put to work as another [player-character's] retainer. This went well for nearly six moons, Chorani never being happier. But alas, all good things must come to an end. The secret of her heritage came to light, and her adventurer boss summarily fired her, clearly stating that the next time he saw her he would not stay his blade. Now without a job, and almost at her 21st nameday, Chorani desperately sought work elsewhere.

The Nymian Marine Initiative

Chorani fled to Limsa Lominsa, where she was scouted by the Arcanists' guild for her talent with Aether. There, she learned all they could teach her about Arcanima, and as the valedictorian of her class she was chosen for the Guild's new joint partnership with the Marauders'. She was given a Soul of the Scholar, and trained in the previously-thought-lost restorative arts of Nym, alongside a class of other skilled mages. But when she graduated, she wished for something more, perhaps an actual job. This is when the Whispered Wish scouted her.

The Whispered Wish

She joined on initially as a simple barmaid, but soon the pressure for her to undertake different tasks increased. Soon she was no better than the common courtesan, dependent upon the Wish for income and safety, even. This was her life for the next four moons, and she performed her tasks dutifully. Then one day as she was bringing a delivery back to Ul'dah from Idyllshire, disaster struck. One she brought completely on herself, too. A former Miqo'te friend spied her conversing with a Garlean soldier on the outskirts of Castrum Meridanium, and jumped to rather justifiable conclusions. This Miqo'te monk brutally attacked her, right then and there. Chorani had to call back to her employer for assistance when it was over, and there was no way for her to continue to hide her secret from the Wish. Now, Chorani roams the streets once more in search of a safe haven.

Personality

Chorani is known to act demure and shy, although the jury is still out on whether this is but an act to ensure her safety. She stutters often, is rather naive, and is very easily embarrassed. Her Imperial heritage and past show somewhat in her manner of speech and her skill with a quill, as she was very well educated. She is often known to converse with her fae, Rue.

Affiliations

Family

  • Remus fae Sylvius: Chorani's father. He always treated her fairly. The two were seperated when she turned eleven.
  • Cirinus aan Sylvius: Born Cirina Khatayin, this is Chorani's mother. She was brought from Othard and sold to Chorani's father as a bride.
  • Linus bas Sylvius: Chorani's baby brother. The two have never met, although Chorani is aware of his existence through the little contact she is able to have with her father.

Friends

A Garlean with friends? Surely you jest.

Companions

  • Rue: A male scholar's fae and Chorani's constant companion during times of battle and study both. Chorani has not been able to summon forth the Anima from her Anima weapon, but when she summons forth Rue with it... He seems enhanced.

Enemies

  • Wyra'to Couerlkin: A Fist of Rhalgr with a fiery temper and even more passionate hatred for Garleans. Wyra'to was previously friends with Chorani, and even romantically interested in her until that fateful day near Castrum Meridanium. He brutally attacked and had his way with Chorani, in a show of utter contempt for who she was and what she stood for. For some reason, though, he didn't think to kill her, but he came close.

OOC Notes

Chorani is a proud Garlean citizen, but she knows better than to announce this to anyone. She does her best to hide her heritage from anyone she doesn't trust with her life. I adhere fairly strictly to lore, and prefer to RP with others that do the same. Minor lore bending is okay.

Limits

I'm full aware of the consequences of playing a Garlean character. Nearly anything except for death is okay as I've spent a while working on Chorani.

Plot Hooks

  • You have a job to offer her.
  • You need a retainer.
  • Just walk up I don't bite.
