Deevaughan was born a Xaela of the Azim Steppe 24 years ago. As a member of the Malqir tribe he has enjoyed all the pleasantries the Steppe has offered: Buuz, Dzo milk, and the nomadic lifestyle. That is, he has enjoyed every pleasantry save one: constant combat. Being of Malqir, he was always taught that intellect, common sense and wisdom trump pure brawn alone. Thus, while a skilled battle mage, Deevaughan prefers to travel and mend the wounds of allies and rivals alike through conjuration.

The Steppe admittedly offers little opportunity to gain worldly intelligence, and for a wandering spirit like Deevaughan, life became commonplace. While gazing at the cosmos, wondering where he would go and whom he should see, Deevaughan was inspired with a radical idea: he would travel the world and learn her secrets.

Leaving the Steppe is rare for members of the Xaela and even more so for those of the Malqir. Thus, Deevaughan told no one, save his mother, Misha. Slipping away in the night, he informed his mother of his plans. Disheartened, but also wise enough to see where this may place her son, Misha acquiesced and decided to fabricate a tale of losing her son to a terrible fall from the mountain cliffs.

Deevaughan slipped away unnoticed and set out for Doma. Little did he know the country was torn by war, and soon he found himself aboard a refugee vessel bound for a land of which he'd only ever heard: Eorzea.

Arriving in Eorzea, Deevaughan the stargazer knew right away his medical expertise was needed. Tending to people in Limsa Lominsa, he learned of the many poor and sick living on streets paved with gold. An odd concept, he thought, that surrounded by masses of wealth there would be people struggling for their next meal. His curiosity and desire to help led him to the city in question: Ul'Dah.

Ul'Dah was unlike anything Deevaughan had seen; there were large, grandiose buildings of gold and stone, adorned with jewels and banisters of all kinds. But under said palaces there were countless beggers and lepers, trying with all their might for their next breath. At first saddened, but then inspired by their tenacity, Deevaughan vowed to himself to help them all.

One day while operating his free clinic, Deevaughan was approached by an odd Hyur man with maroon markings upon his neck. The man called himself Thancred, and expressed indiferently that Deevaughan's talents were wasted. He then strode off smugly, a woman in each arm.

Intrigued, Deevaughan nevertheless returned to tending his patients. Later that night, he heard a shrill cry from just outside Ul'Dah's main gate. He was shocked to see a young girl being attacked by a voidsent beast. Deevaughan observed the creature for a moment, devised a strategy and quickly dispatched it. As the beast fell, Thancred, the same man from just earlier rushed in. Thancred, impressed by Deevaughan's prowess against the voidsent, invited Deevaughan to a chat. From there Deevaughan learned of Thancred, his friends, and the echo. That was the night Deevaughan began the journey he never dreamed of: that of a warrior of light. Now he dreams of one day taking his lessons learned back to the Steppe, to the Kharaqiq table...
