Basic Info

Desmond is a bourgeoisie turned outlier. He was born into the trappings of a comfortable, limited life but for reasons not publicly known, is on his own now, both financially and literally.

History

Desmond was born the first son of a middle class family residing in Uldah. As a child, he was quiet, not making many friends. His father, a merchant of some success, aspired to elevate his family to the higher echelons of Uldah'n society. Desmond's introspective, daydreamer demeanor and timidity were ill suited to follow his father's example unlike his younger, more ambitious brother Edmond, who quickly became the favored son. Over time, Desmond's place in the family fell into doubt, it wasn't without precedent for a firstborn son to be ostracized. Rather than allow himself to be forsaken, he instead chose to leave on his own terms at the age of 16. He has not spoken to anyone in his family since.

Shortly after leaving his father's house, an aged Roegaedyn Gladiator named Tern Greatrock took the youth under his wing. Providing guidance and a focus for Desmond's inner turmoil though gladiatorial training. Desmond took to it with abandon. Finding solace in the stoicism the martial pursuit offered. After becoming a gladiator himself, Desmond found that he cared little for the hierarchy and politics involved with rising in prominence in the ring, comparing it to the ruthlessness his father wanted to instill in him as a powerful merchant. As a result, Desmond again eschewed the life set before him and took to the road as a mercenary.

He has become a mercenary of small, albeit growing repute.

Personality

Desmond retains his introverted personalty from his youth and coupled with the sting of his familial rejection, is not eager to open up to new relationships. When he does however, there isn't a more dedicated and thoughtful friend. Although he won't make public displays of affection, preferring to adopt practiced, cordial customs.

He's driven to use logic to explain all things in life. This is apparent in his love of organized education as a boy. He relies on theory more than intuition. When he comes across a situation that he can't rationalize using his set of established rules, he is easily flustered. He is still developing his sense of spontaneity.

The one exception to this is his love of poetry. Currently it's the only outlet for his personal emotional thoughts.

Affiliations

Having met Kayle Delwyn on a mission, Desmond has become second in command in the newly formed group Driftwood Coast. Being a loose association of people, it is a title in name more than anything else. He has developed a few solid friends in the free company but maintains a distance from most of the members.
