Biographical

Bondage Batman courtesy of Lament

A purposeless nomad, E'rinha spends his days taking odd jobs wherever he can, and generally avoiding responsibility. Being light-hearted and carefree, it comes as some surprise that he keeps several secrets close to his chest, and deflects serious questions whenever possible. E'rinha has not been seen in Ul'dah for quite some time.

Name

Full Name: E'rinha Tia

Nicknames: E, Rinha, Erin

Pronunciation: Eh-Rin-Ha Tee-uh.

Aliases: Rendal Gallenford

Origins: E'rinha's real name is often kept hidden. It is not uncommon for him to introduce himself as Rendal Gallenford. A Hyur name he picked up in the Coliseum to better help remove himself from his tribal past. The word Rendal in English is a derivative of Randall, which in turn comes from Randolf.

Appearance

Height: Approx. 5'5.

Weight: Aprox. 150lbs.

Body: Built from years of athleticism, E'rinha has a runner's body; toned and lean, built for speed and endurance over raw physical prowess.

Hair: Dirty blonde, swept back into a fierce looking mane along his head.

Eyes: Dusky gold.

Skin: Sunned to the color of a light caramel. There are a series of scars along his face, as well as several others dotting the landscape of his body.

Clothing: E'rinha wears as little as possible; it's not entirely uncommon to see him wearing only the tattoo on his shoulder, a baggy pair of rather ragged slops, and a strangely expensive set of sunglasses covering his eyes.

History

E'rinha Tia was born to a traditional tribe out in the Sagolii Desert, in Southern Thanalan. At a young age, his parents found him to be willful and energetic. E'rinha often found himself getting into trouble; irascible, and scrappy to a fault, he often got into fights with the other children his age. It was to some relief that the tribe woke one morning to find him missing.

He wandered north, eventually finding his way to Ul'dah where he begged, stole, and occasionally robbed for gil. One of his victims happened to be a wealthy dunesfolk with ties to an underground gambling ring financed and run by the Platinum Mirage. Recognizing the child's innate deftness of hand, and young age, the Lalafel offered E'rinha a quite literal deal he could not refuse: work for the dunesfolk, or be turned into the Brass Blades. And like that, he was recruited into the life of a pit fighter.

To the surprise of many, E'rinha turned out to have natural knack for fighting. While he often came out of the ring bruised, bloody and broken, his opponents usually found themselves worn out from beating on the Miqo'te, and it was then that E'rinha struck. Those reserves of energy helped make a small, but reasonable name for himself: Rendal Gallenford. Seeking to rid himself of those last and final trappings of his old life, E'rinha discarded his formal name and embraced what he had been given. Though he worked as a fighter long enough, and served with such gusto, E'rinha found a certain enjoyment in brawling that he would give what little pay he earned after the Lalafel's cut, to folks at the Quicksand. E'rinha's debt never got any smaller.

Eventually though, that wanderlust which had afflicted him as a child began to stir beneath his feet. Hearing the call for able bodied men and women to enlist in order to help stave off the encroaching Garlean forces, E'rinha left once again, without a word. Packing only what he had upon his back, the now young adult struck out to enlist. Making it through basic training was a simple enough task -- the Miqo'te saw it only as another opponent he had to outlast, -- and E'rinha soon found himself on the fast track to the Battle of Carteneau. This came as a huge surprise to the Lalafel who owned E'rinha. Not liking the prospect of losing one of his prize fighters, he drafted up a contract: Wanted, one Rendal Gallenford, Seeker of the Sun, M, alive. Payment: 150k gil.

While en route to Carteneau, E'rinha's troop was ambushed by a squadron of Garlean soldiers, and one Magitek Reaper. Though they fought back, it is one thing to fight another creature of flesh and bone and blood, and an entirely different matter to fight a machine. E'rinha's troop was quickly overcome. Faced with a danger that he could not simply wait out, E'rinha panicked. When his comrades charged forward, expecting silently, desperately, for all of them to move as one, E'rinha saw his chance and fled with the sound of magitek weaponry and smells of burning flesh fading fast behind him.

Since the fall of Dalamud and the coming of the Calamity, E'rinha has been locked into a fight that has lasted longer than any of his others. Faced with the guilt of abandoning his troop, and driven away from the only real home he had, E'rinha wanders. He does not stop for long, and when he does, it is restless, and anxious. Though he smiles, and grins, there is a heavy burden weighing upon his shoulders. One that threatens to outlast him.

Only recently has E'rinha reappeared in Ul'dah, his carefree smile edged with a certain sort of bitter cynicism. There are heavy bags beneath his eyes and his hair has become waxen and dull.

More coming soon!

Traits

Skills

Martial: E'rinha has studied martial combat for most of his life. As such he possesses a reckless, unrefined style that focuses upon as little loss of energy as possible as to outlast his opponent.

  • Fisticuffs: E'rinha has been trained to utilize most forms of exotic fist weaponry. Patas, hooks, cesti, etc. Though he prefers his bare knuckles.
  • Swordplay: E'rinha is useless with a blade. He understands as far as to stick them with the pointy end. His skill with a shield is likewise as awful.
  • Lancing: E'rinha is unused to the lance, and does not enjoy the added weight of the wooden pole and iron head.
  • Archery: E'rinha has rudimentary skill with a bow, having been taught by his tribe how to hunt. However; due to his untimely vanishing act, he never fully mastered the basics.
  • Heavy Weaponry: There is something primal and savage about the axe that frightens and fascinates E'rinha. He doesn't know how to use one, but he enjoys the idea of it even if it scares him.

Magic: None. E'rinha doesn't know the first thing about magic of any kind.

Knowledge: E'rinha knows how to utilize his environment for survival: he can cook, but not well. He can sew enough to repair his own clothes, and understands enough about metal/leatherwork to repair his own armor. Nothing fancy -- just enough to get the job done. Though he has no formal learning, he has a quick wit, and a silver tongue. He also has talents for threats and bribery having worked for so long in the Platinum Mirage.

Weaknesses: Though he's had a lifetime of experience, he has never had a formal teacher. As such, E'rinha's fighting style is crude and someone with serious training would be able to see right through him with little effort. E'rinha has a hefty bounty out on his head as well, and must avoid large cities and camps for threat of being turned in. He often works commissions in smaller camps under false names, however! For some reason, he has not let go of 'Rendal Gallenford' and could be traced using the subsequent paper trail.

Likes

  • Exercise: E'rinha must constantly be in motion. When standing still, he often rolls upon his feet, stretches, jogs in place, bounces, leaps, balances, or is otherwise moving.
  • Books: Though he doesn't know how to read, E'rinha loves the idea of it and wants to one day have a large collection of the things.
  • Sun: He adores the feeling of the sun upon his back and the wind at his face.
  • Fancy clothes: Another guilty pleasure. E'rinha has never really owned a set of fine clothing, and one day hopes to be able to.
  • Companionship: Though he will not directly admit it, E'rinha is lonely. Having never felt at home with his family, and having lost the city where he grew up, E'rinha often finds himself alone. Unfortunately when he does discover someone with whom he feels a connection, whether platonic or otherwise, it is not uncommon for him to vanish without saying goodbye.
  • Competition: E'rinha loves to compete. It is the driving force in his lust for the arena, and speaking of which --
  • Fighting: E'rinha loves a good brawl. He feels as though it cleans the body of idleness and keeps it sharp. He does not take losing personally, and instead, will often take time to try and pinpoint what happened so that he may prolong the inevitable rematch.

More to come!

Dislikes

  • Stagnation: E'rinha hates the idea of something that does not change. Regardless of what this may be.
  • Cheating: Fair is fair is fair. Fighting or playing dirty is one thing, but to fix the competition? No way, man.
  • Responsibility: Having grown up able to do whatever it is he liked, there is a sort of teenage sensibility to E'rinha, and responsibility means being shackled.

More to come!

Demeanor

E'rinha comes across at best as a hopeful, proud, if somewhat naive sportsman. He is charming, quick-witted, and often willing to help people with large or small issues on a whim. He is naturally extroverted and has no trouble in large groups of people. Somewhat of a showoff, he often feels the need to leave an impression on people, though if you were to ask why, he would not be able to tell you.

At his worst, he is a vainglorious flake. Though he is likely to help you with your task, he is just as likely to up and vanish without saying a word, and possibly in the middle of whatever it is he was helping you with. E'rinha feels no compulsion to stick to what he does for any longer than it takes for him to grow bored of it. This applies equally to his relationships; never known to keep a long time romantic partner, E'rinha cuts ties with his rendezvous as often as he does with anything else. Fickle to a fault, and somewhat childish in his hopefulness. He often will deflect personal questions with an amiable shrug, and a question of his own.

  • Rarely heard rumors:

    • "Rendal? As in, Rendal Gallenford? If you see that son of an imp, tell him I'm looking for him. Tell him I heard about what happened to his unit. Tell him I don't take kindly to deserters."
