Appearance
Just a hair taller than the average Keeper, at 5'2", and 120ponze, she has long dark blue hair with deep red highlights, which she works hard to keep clean. Lately she keeps it in a ponytail to help keep it out of the way when fighting. Even for a Miqo'te, her chest is a bit on the small side, which suits her just fine. Years of practicing sparring with the lance has left her slim but quite strong, and her love of climbing trees and running through the woods has helped tone her slim legs. Her eyes are hetero-chromatic, one aquamarine, one a light purple. She often worries about this, concerned that others will treat her differently, or look down upon her for it.
General
As someone who has just left her home and family behind- and on her own for the first time, Elyn is unsure what to expect. She hasn't dealt much with people outside of her family group, and customers of her father's. If someone were to ask if she was shy, or if she was outgoing, she would definitely err on the side of being a bit hesitant, especially with new people. Due to her orientation she has a lack of self confidence, particularly when dealing with females. She often feels she is inferior, and thus becomes self-conscious easily. Despite this, she is filled with the desire to explore, see the world, and experience as many things as she can. Worried about others though she may be, she is extremely excited to be able to meet and interact with new people. She is eager to have someone to talk to, and share the new experiences with.
She was raised in a fairly typical Keeper familial group. Not so typical is how that group was formed. When her mother was young, she was an avid traveller and adventurer herself. In fact, all 3 other matrons of her clan, were former members of the same group as her mother. They used to travel the land, seeking their fortune and excitement. Her mother was herself very talented with the lance, and it is from her that Elyn learned how to wield a polearm. For years they had travelled, until one of them became with child. At that point, they all had to make a decision on how they wanted to live their lives from then on. Steadfast friends- family even, they decided maybe it was time to finally settle down in the badlands near Ul'dah. After the first child was born, they all eventually found a spouse of their own. And thus, Elyn was born, on the 3rd of the first Umbral moon.
She realized she was different fairly young, perhaps age 11 or so. It started as simple, innocent, curious playing around with her best friend, Aslie. They were curious about some of the things adults did, and decided one day to try kissing. From the second that their lips clumsily touched, Elyn knew something was different. She became almost intoxicated by the smell of her friend, and as she lay in bed at night she couldn't help but hold a finger to her lips, the phantom feel of Aslie's on her own. Inwardly, she knew it was not the norm for a girl to feel this way about another girl. She was afraid. So, she never said anything. They played around like this a few times after that, and each time, the feeling grew ever stronger. And it wasn't just Aslie either. She started to notice how attractive other girls were, she found her eyes drawn to their bosoms, the curves, their long legs, shapely tails. The stronger these feelings became, the stronger the unease within her also became.
A few years pass, and Elyn keeps these feelings to herself. Fear of rejection from others, especially her family, well up in her whenever she thinks about it. She is 14 now, old enough to fully realize that it isn't "normal" for a girl to have this sort of attraction. Then, one day, their clan split. Elyn's parents wanted to live in the forest, closer to nature. Aslie's parents wanted to stay near Ul'dah, they had friends and colleagues there. And s the clan split. 2 families stayed, 2 left for the Black Shroud. That was the last time Elyn saw her best friend and first crush. A few years pass again, Elyn has enjoyed her time in the Shroud. She loves running through the woods, climbing trees, practicing sparring with her lance. She manages to forget Aslie for a time. When she is 18, they receive a letter from Aslie's parents. Aslie herself is due to be married to a young Miqo'te in Limsa Lominsa. The news hits Elyn like a chocobo running at full speed. Regrets well up within her until she can't take it anymore, and tears burst from her. She regrets not being able to tell Aslie how she felt about her while she still had the opportunity. She regrets not pushing harder to stay in Ul'dah. For a time, she retreats inwards, barely speaking to anyone, lost in self pity. The day eventually comes where she is able to stand up and kick herself in the butt, and move on. She still has feelings for her former best friend, but she has accepted that she missed her chance. She decides that she is tired of sitting around all the time, she wants excitement. She decides she too, wants to see the world. She wants to experience as much as she can, and perhaps someday find someone she too, can care about. And someone that cares about her. Before she leaves, she finally musters the courage to tell her parents what she has been hiding from them for all these years. She is prepared for them to hate her, to reject her. But to her surprise, they simply embrace her, and promise to love her no matter what. Her mother gives her a few final pointers, her father gives her a necklace he smithed himself out of silver. It's not a fancy thing, but she holds it dear to her heart. She bids farewell to her family, and hops on the next carriage to the city of Gridania.
Personality
Always friendly and polite, a little shy but eager to meet new people. A bit unsure of herself due to her sexuality, she always a bit scared that people will reject her or betray her when they find out. She is a bit more nervous around pretty females than with males, and can find herself a bit embarrassed, always thinking herself inferior to other women.. She deep down believes that everyone has good in them. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, and one of the things she hates most is betrayal, and hurting others. If someone does that near her, she will get extremely upset, and has a tough time keeping her tongue to herself. She hopes to one day find that special person that she can spend forever with.
