On an ambassadorial venture to the land of Garlemald, Eros was conceived in secrecy as a result of the forbidden love between his father, Beneros, and an unknown Garlean woman. Fleeing to Ala Mhigo in hiding with the mighty warrior Beneros, his mother fell ill after conception, succumbing to a presumed poisoning attempt. Eros' father harbored a grudge toward the Garlean menace, subconsciously instilling a growling hatred for them to grow in his son. For his own selfish gains, and the pretense of vengeance, he intended his son to follow in his footsteps and began training him for combat at age five.

Ala Mhigo

Growing up a lalafell in a Hyur dominated land, Eros became the focal point of cruelty for the children of men. Poking and prodding at his studious nature, they attempted to wear him down, resulting in a furious explosion of anger upon school grounds, where Eros unleashed his fists on another student. Following both students being sent to the infirmary, he was intercepted by a chieftain of what remained of the Fists of Rhalgr to be trained. Trained from age six to eight in close quarters combat, he began to hone his skills but grew bored of the discipline and asked his father for guidance. Beneros took it as the perfect opportunity to pass on his own fathers' lance to his son.

For the next two years, Eros learned all he could with this new weapon. Proud of his son, Beneros contacted Ishgardian forces to observe him and was met with a visit from Ser Alberic, the Azure Dragoon. Enamored with his presentation, Eros consumed all the knowledge he could from his new hero and quickly became obsessed. With the promise of return to induct the young child into the ranks of the Ishgardian Dragoons, Ser Alberic set back to his home, leaving Eros wanting. A week before his proposed return, Ala Mhigo was attacked in the dead of night by the Garlean Empire. Amidst the clamoring cadence of gunfire and clashing steel, his father was slain at the hands of Gaius van Baelsar. Facing the nightmarish monster in a fit of rage, Eros was spared by the Gaius in pity and forced to flee his homeland.

"Small wonder, that one is; youngest first mate I've ever seen."

Eros headed for Limsa Lominsa where he wandered the streets alone for a quarter year. In search of work for food, he followed a missive placed on a communal board for a position as a cabin boy among a cargo ship. Quickly realizing it as a mistake, he set sail with the crew before seeing they were pirates. Provided reliable food and shelter, he gave in to the idea and adapted to his new-found life at sea. Aboard the ship, he formed a friendship with the first mate, a Hyur from the homeland of Ala Mhigo, Relis Stormwind. For six years, he rose through the ranks from cabin boy to a full-fledged swashbuckler and made a name for himself in a circle of ruffians and criminals.

After a grotesque mutiny that resulted in the untimely death of the captain of the vessel, Stormwind was promoted to Captain. When it came to selecting a first mate, he nominated Eros, and to slight dissent still brewing in the crew, they agreed with their new captain. At sixteen years old, Eros was one of the youngest first mates most had seen, and the more tenured members aboard the ship had grown jealous with ire; many whose seventeen years of piracy at sea meant naught in the eyes of the captain. In the dead of night, sailing toward uncharted waters, three members of the crew ambushed him, blindsiding the poor lalafell as he was taking stock of supplies. Sword at his throat and threatened with execution, he rolled to the side, taking the chance while the men were bickering. He picked up a pitchfork, and swung in self defense as the men rushed toward him, striking a killing blow to one. The same blundering anger from his childhood awoke once more, and he slaughtered the lot without remorse. Flirting briefly with death, he was forced to reconsider his standing as a member of the crew.

Moments later, he confronted Captain Stormwind with news of the encounter, pleading to be removed from his position and placed as a regular member of the crew once more. Captain Stormwind, consumed by the power he now possessed, paranoid, took it as Eros challenging his decisions. Brandishing his own blade against his first mate, he struck, narrowly missing Eros' eye. The captain fell forward as a result of the lalafell's evasive tactics, giving way for an advantage. Still reeling from the prior conflict with the crew, the downtrodden lalafell stabbed at the Captain's now exposed back, instantly piercing his spine and killing him. The remaining members of the vessel, far too petrified with the spreading news of the duet of provoked murder, embraced their new captain with open arms.

Upon searching the former captain's quarters, Eros found what looked to be a bangle with ancient Mhachi scribblings. Too young to understand what it was, he placed it on his wrist, a memory of his fallen friend. Throughout the night, he slept wonderfully until his dreams turned into a great nightmare. He was linked to the void through the bangle, and he felt it. He saw the realm of death, and piercing into his soul, he felt the power that had corrupted his deceased friend. Unable to control it, he invited it into his heart, consuming his soul slowly with darkness. For six years, he fought the moral dichotomy as he presented his oppressive regime to his enemies. Earning the title, "The Mad Child King", for his treachery and small stature, the resumé of bloodshed and murder grew at an alarming rate. Drunken with power and unable to fight the dark void magic that had a hold on his heart, it all came to a head at a camp in Skull Valley. A former crew member had escaped the lalafell's rule and fled to Western La Noscea. On a small tip from another, more loyal crew-mate, Eros set out to find the man. When faced with the traitor, he brutally murdered him in cold blood, slaughtering anyone alive at the camp, believing them to be harboring him. A powerful mage survived the encounter and pleaded to the lalafellan monster, and tried to break the spell from the dark magic controlling him. The young boy who had been suppressed by the magic emerged from Eros' mind, unaware of what had happened since the murder of Captain Stormwind and acquiring the bangle. Throwing the bangle into the sea, he immediately fled before the mage could explain.

Fleeing once more in life from his past, Eros escaped La Noscea and headed for Gridania. Carrying many trinkets from his days at sea, he sold them to a black market dealer in exchange for an exorbitant amount of gil. He bought a home in Lavender Beds, where he would spend the next two years, exiled from the rest of the world. Growing older, his hair began to dye a shade of silver-white, and he grew a beard befitting a hermit. When rumors began circling of a man dubbed, "The Butcher of Skull Valley", he was met head on with the shocking realization that the last six years of his life were adorned in malice and bloodshed. Falling deeper into a depression at the regaling of events he was responsible for but could not remember, he was met with a visit from the mage who had broken the spell.

The mage sought him out and tracked him down, not to kill him, but to understand. After conversing with the mage over the only bits he could remember, she decided to stay and help him defeat the darkness. Their relationship had quickly developed into romantic entanglement, and the feelings she held for him were partly responsible for his slow, daunting recovery. Beginning to feel as though he might escape his tragic past, he escaped with the mage to elope in secret. In their travel, they met a black-cloaked man. The man gave off a charismatic aura, and spoke of Eros' misdeeds with a warm understanding. Eros left their camp for a moment one night, to find food for the next day, and when he returned, he saw his love being elevated by dark magic; held in place by the cloaked man. He threw her across the forest, and the man revealed himself to be of the void, a harbinger of suffering in league with the darkness. The lesser Ascian revealed to Eros that he was sent to reawaken the darkness within the man, and killing his love was the best course of action. In a blind rage, Eros fled, scared of awakening the anger that had plagued him.

When met with the crushing realization that all of the past events that had transpired were his fault, he retreated once more into exile, finding a home in Ishgard.

The Holy See of Ishgard

Ishgard was far removed from the rest of Eorzea as a result of their war, so he found solace, escaping the name that followed him in other territories. He spent most of his time in the Scholasticate, reading ancient books on dragons and warfare, of Meracydian history and Ishgardian politics. He trained in secret in the ways of his former discipline, donning a lance once more to hone his skills to defend against those who would see him dead. One day, whilst training in the alleyways of Foundation, he was found by a passer-by; an Elezen named Gwynevere Einsvald, a knight of the Dragoons. Impressed with his power and self-taught skill, she brought him to speak with members of the Holy See. Unaware of his past and only knowing his skill, they were floored with his abilities and offered him a position to train. For a year, he trained under the tutelage of the dragon knights, and was tasked with killing a lesser wyrm as a final test. Excelling at his task, and methodically destroying the beast, he was granted the title of Ishgardian Dragoon for his achievement.

He toiled away for the coming years, immersing himself in his work. Dragon after dragon fell to his blade, and he had finally found a home worthy of being proud of. His pain and anguish began to fade away as he was finally at peace. He was inducted into the Sky Piercers of the Holy See, an elite task-force for ridding the world of the most dangerous wyrms, where his colleague, Gwynevere resided. Now a senior member of the force, he currently resides in Ishgard, slaying beasts for a living.

Quote2.png

Common Appearance: Eros is a very stout, but remarkably tall lalafell whose beard is his crowning achievement. He proudly carries a billowing head of silver hair that is usually tied up, as it would get in the way of his hunting.

Scars & Markings: No visible scars or markings.

Voice: Awfully spry, Eros' voice thunders into an octave far lower than most lalafell. He is commonly unable--albeit unwilling--to control the volume of his voice, which leads to over excitement.

Clothing: Eros is seldom seen outside of his armor but his civilian clothing is indicative of his wealth.

Demeanor: Eros is somewhat crass, yet kind-hearted to those who pique his interest. To those he considers friends, he would die for in an instant; ever loyal to the many who return respect.

Nature: Slow to anger but quick to perversion, Eros embodies the general Eorzean view of a lalafell male. His penchant for overcompensation is glaring, and his competitive tendencies sometime outshine his wont for loyalty to the Holy See.

Habits: Eros is a tinkerer to the point where he will attempt to fix anything, even without proper understanding of the task at hand. He is naturally flirtatious and will try to woo any female who locks eyes with him. At most times, he cannot sit still and has to fidget with something to keep his mind occupied.

Prejudices: Eros harbors a resentment against anyone that tries to perpetuate the stereotype that his people are evil, greedy or less of a person than the other races. He absolutely despises anyone who refers to him as a 'Roegadyn child'. Other than that, he is incredibly tolerant, despite his past of prejudice toward him.

  • His hubris often mars his judgement, leaving him to act hastily at the behest of his comrades.
  • He has oft had a weakness for women, and has been known to be manipulated several times by ones who would want him dead.
  • More than once, he has gone into battle completely and totally inebriated.
  • Though he is very intelligent in knowledge of the world, he knows little to nothing about magic.
  • His past follows him, and thus he is always running from it.
  • He is very bad at saving people falling from cliffs.

Combat.png

Eros is a self-taught Dragoon; learning the ways of the lance from the young age of nine years. Though not formally trained, the small amount of time he's spent in Ishgard and his short adventures with Ser Alberic and Estinien have taught him the necessary skills to excel above most. His small body allows for a rapidity not scene by his Hyuran and Elezen brethren.

Trained in combat with a sword and an axe from his time as a pirate, he has versatility. However, his preferred weapon is a lance, and is especially skilled at defeating the taller races of Eorzea, again using his size to his advantage. The eye he possesses from the wyrm Mjolnir grants him the power to transform to an animalistic state, consumed by anger and at the moment, unable to control himself. His Ishgardian armor becomes scaled and spike with the change, and his spear becomes Aetherial in nature.
