▼ APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY

Eugenie is perhaps a bit strange to look at. Standing just under six fulm, it’s almost easy to mistake her for a particularly gangly midlander. The girl does not eat or sleep enough. There are usually bruise-like streaks under her eyes, made more striking by skin so fair it’s almost translucent. An oval face holds a noble pointed Ishgardian snootle, and huge almond-shaped green eyes rimmed with black. Her lashes are quite full, feathery and white. High cheekbones often enhance her slight gauntness, along with a small mouth. Her ears are small, pointing slightly downwards. Generally, she wears her elbow-length hair in two messy braids. Genie favors modest dress, though she occasionally gives up in summer for the sake of coolness. She has a full bust and an absolutely devastating lack of arse. Years of squinting at books in lantern light has left her with bad vision, so her glasses are a must.
Genie is doggedly uninterested in things, or so she likes you to think. She paints the perfect image of snide, uncaring youth, offering little to no reaction for almost anything. In reality, the girl is incredibly nosey. It’s entirely common to have her wander off mid-conversation if she deems the other person boring, or if they’re scolding her. If the person does have her attention, she follows them around like a duckling, constantly peppering them with questions. She has very little sense of personal space. Despite the constant stream of sass and apathy, she has been making great strides in interacting with other people. At her grandfather’s urging, she’s attempted to foster lasting relationships. It’s worked to some degree. The way she displays her affection is often a heartbeat too late, or just vaguely weird. The girl always sounds like she's half asleep or perhaps on Somnus, dreamily rambling about this or that in a high, airy voice. She is quite well spoken.
Being a Hearer did not come easily to the halfling, and she resents it most days. When asked about the Elementals and such, she usually does her best to avoid discussing it. None the less, she’s starting to realize she can do some good with her abilities. In being less resistant to her responsibilities to Stillglade Fane, she’s interacted far more with the Gridanians, and almost learned how to speak with people. Almost.

▼ TALES OF... - HISTORY

Childhood

Eugenie was born to the drunken union between a midlander seamstress and an elezen guard. Genie’s mother, Ella, adventurously nicked a bottle of expensive wine from a noble’s fete, and then attempted to stumble home in the wee hours of the morning. She was set upon by thieves. Luckily for her, a half-asleep and extremely irritated elezen guard managed to save her. Ella decided to give him a very warm thank you. Months later in the pre-dawn hush of late spring, Genie offended legitimately everyone in Ishgard by being born. Her mother knew the halfling child wouldn’t stand a chance in regular society, and descended into the depths of the Brume.
Ella insisted Genie was a full-blooded elezen, and a friend's child. The woman had been a well-fed and favored servant, and her new life proved a bitter pill to swallow. Her father, a celebrated dragoon, was horrified to find his daughter on the streets after many years of no contact. Florian Merriweather did not understand why his daughter would give up a relatively comfortable life to care for some elezen's child. By now, the fledgling Hearer had already begun to pick up the voices of the Elementals. Florian was a fierce Halonite, and immediatley decided the child was some sort of voidsent sent to hypnotize his daughter. Or something. Halonites. It took Ella breaking down and telling the man Genie was his own blood to prevent him killing her. The dragoon swallowed his pride and swept his family into the Forelands, effectively exiling himself.

Teenage

Genie spent a lovely childhood amongst the brazen hunters of Tailfeather, cooking their catches and narrowly avoiding a fiery death on a weekly basis. At puberty, her abilities as a Hearer were too much to ignore. Although it unnerved her grandfather at first, he gradually adjusted to his growing grandaughter's gift. Not only that, but her ability to keep a finger on the pulse of the forest was a massive boon to the hunters. Despite the struggle of daily life, Genie found herself...happy.
When the Calamity struck, Florian made a decision: He would bring his family to the Shroud.
