Basic Info

A hundred summers ago, a divide shifted in the Eft tribe. Ex'tyn's ancestor, E'run, wanted to form his own tribe and took two of his male littermates and four females for the Jade Sea. This was how the Council of Seven was created. Since then, the nuhn traditionally elected two tias and four females prized to his council. Thavnair was already growing as a melting pot of cultures when they arrived and as long as the Exodus Tribe pulled their weight for the benefit of its capital, Radz-at-Han, the locals saw no need to expunge them and they quickly flourished on the outskirts of the city-state. The current tribe is run by Exus, who is Ex'tyn's father and nunh that he dutifully follows - until he could figure out a way to best his father and run the tribe himself.

Personality

Calm, reserved, engaging. When Ex'tyn is interested in someone, he'll let you know it. He's quite the intense Seeker, which is partially born from the biology of his race and the hunting traits instilled upon him. He knows his boundaries and the different cultures he travels and so he maintains a polite if not a respectful demeanor in front of strangers.
However, he's not above tapping into his baser instincts. He is a tia and with that comes with biology and obligations to his tribe that makes him the way he is. The difference is that he has learned to respect his heritage instead of fearing it, and that in turn has given him a large berth of control over his impulses. This gives people the initial impression that he's cold and calm when he speaks, though his grey eyes often give away the passion and savagery brewing within.
When he speaks, it's refined. It's simple. He has no qualms about speaking the truth, if not bluntly so. He'll get to know a person by reading the aetherial pulse points on their skin, for it's the only way he wouldn't be deceived by their character.

Biography

Childhood

Ex'tyn was born along with his other littermates in the tribe, though his mother was favored the most by the nunh and therefore was granted the prestige of ruling the hunt and making the secondary decisions. This gave him a bit of an edge of the other tias, but never exude anything more than absolute dedication to his father.

Teenage

While the others dreamed and plotted of breeding and sitting upon a throne as nunh, Ex'tyn's aspirations headed in other pursuits like the hunt and taking care of the squabbles within the tribe. This, much to little amusement, brought a healthy bout of admirers by his fairer littermates. While prideful of her son's proficiency in protecting the tribe, his mother worried about his lack of drive for females and urged one of their aetherial shamans to evaluate him. They could not find a fault in his behavior until a few summers later where he revealed the typical aggressive mating behavior when a male adventurer came to trade with them. Exus later warned his favored son about this - a nunh cannot flourish over a barren tribe. But nature was nature and Ex'tyn could not rein his instincts any more than he can hold an ocean. He quickly accepted his preference for males, but with great cost. The other tias no longer considered him a threat and therefore could no longer cow their antics down on his pedigree alone. He would spend many summers re-earning the respect he deserved by apprenticing with the tribal shamans - and what few number that remained - hoping to breathe life back into the dying tradition.

Present

In his nineteenth summer, Ex'tyn's tireless years spent regaining his place in the tribe finally yielded fruit when the opportunity presented itself. When the tribe was suddenly ridden with a plague, Ex'tyn worked for seven days and nights keeping the nursery alive while their nunh ordered the search for the rare cliffside plant he deduced as the cure. This act cemented a recommendation for him to replace one of the elder tias as part of the Council of Seven. Ex'vel, his littermate, was angered as he was to be the next candidate. He confronted Ex'tyn and they engaged in bloody combat. Before a soul could be claimed for Azeyma's realm, the Council ordered a halt, for shaman initiates were too precious of a commodity to waste. To decide on who shall join the Council, the nunh ordered the both of them to scatter throughout Hydaelyn and return with magical knowledge that would benefit the tribe. Determined to prove himself as worthy of the task, Ex'tyn quickly caught a ship for Limsa Lominsa and the Arcanists they keep coveted.

■ “I dunnae give a marmot's arse what you believe, but the kid could read! I know 'e could! 'E spent a good hour in the Alchemist's Guild scoffing at the ingredients list!”
◢ Moderate Rumors (Moderately difficult to overhear)
■ “Zavir over there actually talked with the cat. Blunt, but strangely eloquent. Earnest. Much more at ease with the men. Bugger, does that mean I can't play with him?”
■ “Bribe him with something sweet and he’ll run your errands for you. It’s pretty convenient when you need a drunkard or two tossed out of the establishment.”
■ “He doesn't like pirates. Said a pirate wronged his family. I don't blame him. Bloody pieces o' shite.”
◢ Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
■ “The slave block put up quite a bounty on the boy’s head. Miqo’te from tribes costs more than the average adventurer. Difficult to tame - and that makes for a lovely sport.”
■ “He took one of my leves to herd off some wolves hunting after my sheep. The entire area was a bloodbath when I visited in the morn. Bits and pieces of dog, but not a hair missing from my flock - all of them just slept as peaceful as a babe. That miqo'te intimidates the hell out of me, but damn does he get the job done.”
■ “He knows how to read. He has thoughts. I can see it when he looks at me. It’s feral, but aware. That’s dangerous. He's not a barbarian and he wants you to believe he is. That's what's scarier.”

TV Tropes:
  • Beware the Nice Ones - Ex'tyn is quite the sweetheart in his inner circle and he's reserved and polite where he's wanted, but piss him off and he likes to settle things in a bloody, disgusting fashion.
  • Cultured Warrior - Appearances can be deceiving. His respect for the written word is almost utter devotion, because it helped him work earnestly with traders to benefit the tribe. He's extremely interested in history and the eras of yore because plenty of it details the rise and fall of mankind.
  • Dark is Not Evil - Many superstitious locals have taken his dark hair and skin as an omen or someone not to be trusted. Instead of combating them, he tends to quickly leave villages and towns to avoid causing any more trouble.
  • Gentleman Snarker - When he genuinely speaks, he's well spoken and mild-mannered, though it's probably where most of his dry, sarcastic quips tend to come from.
  • Not So Above It All - When he's in the Gold Saucer, boy does his inner child start revealing itself...
  • Obfuscating Stupidity - Oftentimes people would mistake Ex'tyn as some kind of feral native. He likes taking advantage of that when he wants to be left alone or when he's bored and in need of entertainment.
  • Soft Spoken Sadist - A rare heroic version. Nice and polite as he is, Ex'tyn has no problem using his tea time voice to rattle off the most efficient way to skin his rivals alive.
  • The Red Mage - Has studied both healing and offensive magic. See below for Witch Doctor.
  • Sugar and Ice Personality - Often detached or disinterested with strangers, he does become much more personal and friendly the longer he knows them.
  • Tranquil Fury - A staple of the Exodus tribe and a very dangerous one at that.
  • Witch Doctor - Unremarkably one, as by the time he was exiled from the tribe, he was in the middle of training with the tribal shamans to become one. Despite this, he is still capable of sensing the flow of aether as well as avoid or purge tiny pockets of corruption if need be. He is also able to use minor healing and offensive magic but not to a great extent. The only downside is he can't use any kind of magic upon himself.
