Fenris Mharr
A Forgotten Hero once known as Wolf

Background

Fenris Mharr, who was more commonly known as 'Wolf', a title whose origins she never seems inclined to explain, describes herself as having 'done a little bit of everything.' Which is true. She's been a merchant, a housewife, a soldier, a mercenary, a bodyguard, a monster hunter, an assassin and in her time has even commanded armies. She's been at this a long time, long enough to go through changes. Some would proclaim her a hero and just as many would be as quick to curse the very mention of her. With such a checkered past, she fits very easily into a variety of group dynamics and story needs. The gruff, wizened mentor figure? The crazy one who keeps the group together? The crazy one who seems to keep getting the group in trouble? Does your story require it's very own Beatrix? Full blown villain? She's a square peg capable of fitting in those round holes and so many more.

Her history, as she tells it, is as follows. She was adopted at a young age, the daughter of merchants. She was more or less signed off in an arranged marriage. A few months into the domestic life, she simply left home and began to travel before coming into what she describes as the 'warrior lifestyle'. Fighting, gaining strength, she traveled the forgotten corners of the continent in search of 'ancient and lost knowledge' which aided her in obtaining the fighting prowess she enjoys today. Among this lost knowledge includes a peculiar blade hilt that appears to be made of woven brass or copper. Through this weapon she is able to channel her aether and produce a blade of light. It unfortunately lacks the ability to cut through everything, but it's a great more durable than your average weapon. What's more, it touches voidsent like cool water to a red hot iron. It is with this unique weapon she marched on the fortress of Silver Sin and prevented Lord Avarice from summoning a creature of unimaginable horror into Eorzea. It all went perfectly well and she spontaneously decided from that point on to travel alone.

Of course, she wouldn't tell you that battle came at the cost of the life of the man who was in matters of law her second husband. She wouldn't mention that she nearly killed her companions trying to prevent him from sacrificing himself. And if you were hoping to hear about the sea of liquor she drowned herself in the years following, you'd be sorely disappointed. What happens when someone becomes defined by their own legend? Is there even a 'self' when her very survival depends on the measure others take of her? You can look into her eye and see a woman staring back at you... but Fenris Mharr is nowhere to be seen. No. It seems you've a Wolf on your hands.

Appearance & Personality

There was a time when she could have been called a beautiful girl. While her looks haven't taken a hit from age, her lifestyle has certainly impacted them. Scars, missing right eye and the general demeanor of someone who's more used to risking their life regularly than the mundane day to day of the average citizen. It can be hard to see, but a well trained eye can notice even when she appears physically incapable of caring any less about a given situation than she already does, she's always on her guard. She's taller than most women and her build fits her profession. Slim to be quick with enough muscle to make a hit from her hurt. Her fashion can vary based on what she seeks to accomplish, she's certainly not above a disguise or two to get what she wants. Personality can vary based on the person. People who connect with her find she can go on and on about the oddest subjects, while those she doesn't trust or dislikes will be lucky to get a complete sentence from her. Her sense of humor can be dry enough it leaves one wondering whether or not she's being serious. She's someone driven by passion, not requiring a commander or a doctrine to tell her something is right because she knows what's right and what isn't.

She's the grizzled veteran. Her worldview has been shaped by battle. Cynical perhaps, but everyone's much less disappointed when they spill a glass half empty. While she'd never describe herself as cruel or cowardly, everyone has limits and one less corpse in the world is nothing to complain about. This persona of a jaded, been-there-done-that fossil is a mask when all the rules she swore to follow inevitably get broken. She will move mountains for the people she cares about - and has claimed to have done just that. She doesn't look for opportunities to run and hide. When justice is just a stones throw away she's the hand tossing. But as she's come to find in her time, one Wolf's justice is another man's warcrime...

Hooks

• Fen as a mentor. The wise, albeit somewhat washed up sensei type character. It's a niche she falls into quite well. The obvious choice are up and coming warriors, but don't be fooled. Her prowess is not just physical, but mental as well. Even a conjurer would find their healing could benefit from what she can teach.

• Final Fantasy. Let's make our own story about a group of people saving the world. Fen's done this once before, her input will surely be invaluable... as soon as you can fish her out of whatever tavern or fight club she's passed out in.

• Fen as a villain. I can work within shades of how villainous, anti-hero, stuff like that, but I usually have specific causes and reasons for her to go down that path. I really, really, really like the idea of kind of trying to do an Ardyn type thing with a reluctant villain playing the role of a "bad guy" to spur the heroes on to do what the hell they're supposed to do to begin with. But ultimately it comes down to what you and your group needs. If you or someone you know is in need of a bad guy (At least Beatrix level, none of this nameless grunt stuff. C'mon.) hit my line.

OOC Notes

This is my first draft of this character's profile! Some things are missing, intentionally or not. Feel free to ask for a more detail. I prefer one-on-one or small group affairs. In a small group I'm totally fine with forgoing believability and stretching lore to make a cool story. But I can also operate within the confines of what Square's given us. I'm flexible. Only RP type that she's not gonna work for is romance focused, she's very particular about partners and that would be more of a longterm thing if at all. Also in case it wasn't apparent before, I don't necessarily play this character as one thing, one storyline, so on. I just kind of want to do whatever with whoever. While she's fundamentally the same person in each story, her motives may be wildly different.

Anyway throw me a line in-game some time, let's get a thing going!
