Character

General

Ferah is a miqo'te bard well-known for her clumsiness and her love for elezen males. Just by looking at her or spending a couple hours with her, it's very hard to tell she's actually a powerful, strong willed person, and a Warrior of Light.

Appearance

Ferah is a very small (less than 4"9) dark skinned miqo'te female with raven black, long straight hair and piercing blue eyes. Her body is very slender, humble chest and small hips, making her look a lot younger than she actually is. She's pretty athletic but her muscles don't seem to show. She takes very good care of both her hair and long, black fluffy tail.

She has a very small scar on the bridge of her nose ; whenever asked where it comes from, she says when she was a kid, she took a wooden shutter to the face while running in the streets of Ul'Dah, but no one knows if it is actually true. She also has a small, round, red mark on her forehead that was actually applied by her mother right after she was born. Tyak'a has no idea why G'Fehr wanted to give Ferah the same mark as her while rejecting her as a daughter, but figured there might be some meaning behind it he couldn't understand, and decided not to go against it.

She's usually clothed in very casual and practical garments, for she doesn't like her clothes getting in the way of her adventuring. She has a particular liking for comfy shirts. Her favorite colors to wear are black, white, shades of green and sometimes purple.

Personality

Ferah Parohren

Ferah has a bubbly, friendly personality. She's outgoing and friendly, pretty chatty, and just loves talking about everything and anything. She's very clumsy, and likes to spend a lot of time daydreaming or napping, especially when people around her are discussing very serious matters, like politics, strategies, battle plans and so on.

Turns out her clumsiness is actually faked, as well as her not paying attention during important meetings. Ferah likes letting people think she's a lot more stupid than she actually is, and that she doesn't take anything seriously. She's actually a very smart person, a skilled, experimented strategist, and letting others believe she's a dummy is always part of the plan. Taking fake catnaps while people are having serious conversations around her is one of her favorite things. She never forgets anything she hears that can be of any importance.

Before the Calamity, she used to let people see the strategist, serious, organized and clever side of her personality, but she found out it made people wary and would often make her job very difficult; since she's physically so unimpressive, it was very hard for her to bring people to respect her and follow her advices. Therefore, she now prefers to let people believe she's just a mindless follower and doesn't think twice before obeying orders, when she's actually already planning a million possible case scenarios in her head, and getting ready to take any opportunity to show authority and take the lead if necessary. Her showing her dominant side our of the blue has made her capable of many tour de forces in the past, earning her respect, and sometimes fear from others. She doesn't plan on stopping this behavior anytime soon. She is often frustrated she has to keep her inner leader on a leash, but knows it's for the best, at least for now. Maybe when she gets an actual formal title that forces people to follow her lead, she will behave differently, but for now, she doesn't want to have to worry about it. She's happy with the level of responsibility she has, in her Grand Company, in her Free Company, and as a Warrior of Light, and doesn't want things to get more complicated.

She likes to think she would be an incredible double or even triple agent if she wanted to, yet isn't using her skills to serve any kind of "bad" cause. It makes her feel a lot better about herself whenever in doubt. It also allows her to feel more relaxed and laid back, especially when it comes to really serious situations, like anything Primal related. She always reminds herself she's a follower by choice and not by obligation, and she can at any moment decide to flip the tables, simply because she is capable of it, and she will benefit from a surprise effect if needed.

Among friends and family, Ferah is extremely affectionate, she just can't stop herself from showering her loved ones with care and affection, both with words and actions. She doesn't trust easily but when she does, it's 200% and basically indestructible. She's very loyal and will always put other people's needs before her own, often hurting herself in the process. Ferah's greatest fear is that she might not be loveable, and so she cherishes any kind of affection other people give her. Sadly, Ferah's huge needs have led her to terrible, short living relationships. She's a one night stands collector, and only had one serious relationship so far, which crashed down dramatically when she realized she wasn't in love with the guy and just wanted *him* to love her. She's never fallen in love and at this point, she seriously doubts she is capable of it.

Combat

General

Although she is also a dragoon and a monk, Ferah is a lot more at ease using a bow and arrows. She doesn't like being close and personal with her enemies (meanwhile she likes being up and close with other people, but that's another story) and feels safer in the backline with the mages. She also likes how it makes her able to have a larger view of her surroundings, and see what's going on, making her able to plan ahead if necessary, or see reinforcements coming. Whenever needed, she is also able to be a white mage. She's not very confident in her capabilities, but is always happy to get some training.

Although she adapts to fighting in a team, she's a lot more at ease on her own. Ferah is a huntress, and she likes how she can let her feral instincts drive her whenever hunting on her own, no matter which prey she's after. Her moves are fast and fluid, she's a very quick attacker. As she's used to hunting, she will be able to sneak pretty much anywhere and can lie in wait for a prey for days.

Relationships

Family

Ferah's family life is complicated. She's the fruit of a one night stand between a Seeker female, G'Fehr, and a Keeper male, Tyak'a. They both met in a small camp, Y'Fehr was a warrior, Tyak'a was a traveling tailor, and they were only stationed at the same place for a short while. When G'Fehr found out she was pregnant, she told Tyak'a she would throw the baby down a cliff if he didn't take her, for she didn't want having a kid to ruin her life as a warrior, and didn't want to infuriate her Nuhn. Tyak'a was forced to take baby Ferah with him home to Ul'dah, for he didn't want to abandon her. He quickly realized he was the only person who could love and save her, immediately making him an overprotective dad, even though he was very young and didn't have the slightest idea what to do.

When they found out about his bastard seeker/keeper child who looked way too much like her mother, Tyak'a's family turned their back to him, including the woman he was engaged to at the time. Only his grandmother decided to help, and raised Ferah as if she was her own great granddaughter. Tyak'a got into a new relationship a few years later, and married Rhesh Parohren. The two of them eventually got a daughter, Qiln, and a son, Rhesh'a.

Ferah goes along great with her family and siblings, and though she is aware of her physical differences (shorter fangs, black hair, slit pupils, dark skin, fluffy tail VS long fangs, blue hair, round pupils, grey skin, lion tail), she doesn't seem to suffer a lot from it at first glance. However, she is internally struggling a lot with how out of place she feels. As a kid, she's tried a couple times to change her appearance to match her family; she's cut her tail to try and make it look like Qiln's, she's tried to dye her hair blue on several occasions. Qiln often reminds her of how they both have their father's green eyes, soft features and tiny nose, appeasing her a little. Yet Ferah often feels like she doesn't belong, is often made fun of by Keeper children, and sometimes bullied by Tyak'a's family members whenever they happened to bump into her. Thankfully, both Tyak'a and Rhesh are very protective, understanding and affectionate, allowing Ferah to still have a happy childhood overall.

This trauma has led her to believe no one will ever love her for what she is and that she's a mistake, which is making her relationships in general and her love life in particular very difficult.

History/Timeline

Age 0-12

Ferah grows up in Ul'Dah with her father Tyak'a, stepmother Rhesh, half sister Qiln and half brother Rhesh'a. Her great grandmother aside, Ferah doesn't know her other family members very well. On Tyak'a's side, she's been shut out for being a Seeker/Keeper bastard, and is usually refered to as "the black cat". Pretty much all the family members have severed all links with Tyak'a, and only keep saying Ferah is bad luck and will bring disgrace to the family. As for Rhesh, her family doesn't agree with her choices either. She married Tyak'a knowing very well he had a bastard daughter, and didn't mind at all. Rhesh was wise enough to simply see Ferah as an innocent and unfortunate child. Her family however, thought it was a shame to let a bastard wear the Parohren name, and refuse to even aknowledge Ferah's existence.

Save for a couple insults here and there whenever she'd unfortunately bump into family members, Ferah's childhood is quite normal and uneventful. She's lucky enough that her parents are pretty wealthy, Tyak'a is a talented tailor who owns a renowed shop, and she never has to suffer from poverty. She is sometimes bullied by Keeper kids, but quickly learns to cope with it and builds character. The fact that her sister and brother keep reminding her it makes no difference and she's still one of them helps a lot.

She does everything she can to feel even closer to her peers, spends a lot of time with Rhesh cooking, fishing and harvesting, gets into weaving thanks to Tyak'a, and learns a couple lessons from clumsily trying to change the shape of her tail and the color of her hair. However, when at 12 her father starts talking her into taking over the shop and becoming a professional weaver, she rebels. Suddenly, Ferah feels a need to have her own purpose and identity. On a whim, she decides adventuring would be the way, and to make sure she doesn't get soft and change her mind, she decides to leave for Gridania to learn archery. Tyak'a forbids her to do so but gets talked into letting her by Rhesh; Ferah being quite the stubborn kid, Rhesh fears she would do it anyway even if they get in the way. They eventually decide they are pretty much forced into supporting Ferah's decision, and send her to the Adders.

Age 12-16

Ferah is too young to join the Grand Company's banners, but she is entrusted to the Archers' guild and starts her training. She proves to be very talented with a bow and arrows, learns quickly, has a sure aim and fires very fast. She's a very promising archer and one of the youngest members of the guild. Her being from Ul'Dah and a Seeker is frowned upon at first, but her talent is quickly recognized, and most people decide they do not want to get on her bad side.

She grows up in a friendly environement, learns to love Gridania, and even though she finds out she doesn't quite agree with the views and politics of the Twin Adder, she decides she owes thankfulness and respect to the nation that took her in and keeps her thoughts to herself.

She's a very serious student and very focused on her training until the age of 16; hormones helping, she starts getting interested in boys more than arrows.

Age 16-20

One of Ferah's mates at the Archers' guild gets a pretty bad crush on her and eventually asks her out. Ferah accepts, not really knowing what she's getting herself into and loves every second of this 3 months long relationship. It's sweet, it's young, it's fun, she loves the flirting, they're both virgins and the awkwardness makes her giggle, they have their first time together pretty much out of the blue, and then they both realize it was nice and all, but it's better to stop before things get bitter as they slowly start straying away and the novelty of everything just fades.

Ferah then starts dating many Gridanians around her age, it never lasts long but it's never serious and she simply wants to enjoy herself. She realizes she feels safe in the warm arms of a man and grows addicted to it. Yet she doesn't seem to be falling in love or even developping serious crushes. She's attracted to people, but something always seems off and she doesn't feel to seem the way other people describe love. She starts wondering if she's capable of loving anyone, and in return, if she's loveable. She remembers her childhood and how her father has always been the only man to truly accept her the way she is, and the thought that Tyak'a is the only man who will ever love her sinks in. She gets pretty depressed and home sick. Her guildmaster decides her training is complete and sends her back to Ul'Dah when she's 19.

Once back home, she starts dating even more, probably simply to forget the worries that are gnawing at her. But sadly, she simply gets herself in trouble, gets involved into a few relationships that hurt her body, pride and feelings, and starts developping a phobia towards Miqo'te males and Duskwights. She starts keeping her dating to Wildwood males mostly, has a little fun here and there, until she starts adventuring with Qiln and meets Feremiont.

Age 20-22

(Pretty much all of 1.0 here) Ferah starts adventuring with her younger sister Qiln, and becomes a bard. She's being assisted by a Wildwood male called Feremiont, and something happens. Ferah desperately wants the guy, but he completely ignores her signals and even treats her as a child. Since she's never been denied a man's affections before, Ferah goes all out with the stubborn flirting, and doesn't seem to give up, no matter what. Eventually Feremiont gives in. The morning after, Ferah realizes her desire and need are gone ; deep down, she simply wanted to add him to the list of her lovers and only wanted him to love her. Never loved him. She has a major breakdown just a couple weeks before Carteneau. When she's sent to the front, despite her mental state, she doesn't think twice. She just wants to forget. In the midst of battle, she gets separated from Qiln, who runs away from the Flats. Eventually, Ferah gets transported 5 years into the future, while Qiln remains.
